JOINES Mrs. Hazel Jarvis Joines, age 91, of Brentwood, Maryland, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland. She was the widow of William Frank Joines. She is survived by two sons, Russell F. Joines of Cheverly, Maryland, and William Thomas Joines of Bladensburg, Maryland; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 30th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Whitehead-Joines Cemtery at Whitehead. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
PRICE Mrs. Stella Hodge Edwards Price, age 86, of 96 Poplar St., Sparta, died Thursday evening, May 19, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of McKinley Price and was preceded in death by a son, Charles Price. She is survived by three daughters, Doris Shelton and Mae Wood, both of Greensboro, and Rose Price of New York; three sons, Jake Price of Greensboro, David Price of Statesville, and Kenneth Price of Sparta; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Glascoe and Louise Cheek both of Sparta; three brothers, Raymond and Cleates Edwards of Sparta, and Victor Edwards of Blair, Va; special caregiver, Betty Dixon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 23rd, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Shirley Glascoe, 285 South Main St. in Sparta.
HILL Mrs. Ella Jean Halsey Hill, age 70, of 42 Stratford Road, Sparta, died Thursday morning, May 19, 2005, at her home. She was the widow of Dwight Hill. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Annie Lee and Burton Kennedy of Sparta; three grandchildren, Angie, Lynda, and Bennie Kennedy; a step-grandson, Burton Kennedy, Jr; a brother and sister-in-law, Grover and Mary Burchette of Jefferson; special friend, Elder Cleo Poole of Sparta; and special brother-in-law, R.S. Warden of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Piney Creek. OSBORNE Agnes Virginia Osborne, age 86, of 598 Spry Road, Sparta, died Thursday morning, May 19, 2005, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She is survived by a niece, Karla Quarles and husband Carey of Ft. Collins, Colorado; a nephew, Dennis Osborne and wife Debbie of Sparta; two great-nephews, Daniel and Brandon Osborne; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd, at the Osborne Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral service to lie in-state. PARDUE Mrs. Gladys Owens Transou Pardue, age 84, of 119 Little River Drive, Sparta, died Wednesday evening, May 18, 2005, at her home. She was preceded in death by a son, Teddy Paul Pardue, and a brother, Leroy Transou. She is survived by her husband, J.T. Pardue of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Tim Caudill of Independence, Va; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marty Pardue of Elkin; five grandchildren, Debbie Coe, David Pardue, Chasey Messick, Todd Pardue and Jessica Caudill; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edgar Transou of Elkin. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21st, at the Sparta First Baptist Church. The family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church, following the service. DELP Georg Marshall Delp, age 55, of Fancy Gap, VA, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olivia Edwards and Cam Fields Delp. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Rotenberry Delp of the home; and a step-son, David Demarcey, Jr. of Sparta, NC. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 20th at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Glade Creek Cemetery at Glade Valley. SHEPHERD Mrs. Madge Reeves Shepherd, age 99, of 6347 Cranberry Creek Road, Laurel Springs, NC, died Wednesday evening, May 11, 2005, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of Eugene Shepherd, and was preceded in death by a son, George E. Shepherd. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, William “Bill” and Clara Shepherd of Laurel Springs, John and Diane Shepherd of Concord, NC, and Thompson and Joann Shepherd of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Laurel Springs Baptist Church. BINION Mr. William Shannon “Billy” Binion, age 44, of Highland Village Apartment 26B, Sparta, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at his home. He had been attending Wilkes Community College for the past year. He is survived by his son, William Ethan Binion of Sparta; his mother, Betty Presnell Binion of Sparta; a sister, Jo Crouse of Boonville, NC; his maternal grandparents, James and Peggy Presnell of Sparta; two nieces, Jessica Crawford of Sparta and Nikki Montgomery of Winston-Salem; the mother of Ethan, Geri Clemons of Sparta; and several cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Brandy Kaye Parsons of Laurel Springs; her parents, Rufus and Nedra Barker of Laurel Springs; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, George and Michelle Barker of Wilkesboro, Ray Barker of Laurel Springs, and Jeff and Stacey Barker of Sparta; two nieces, Latasha and Gracie Barker; and two aunts, Mary Nilo of Sparta and Sarah Richardson of Bristol, Tennessee. She was the widow of Sidney Doyle Higgins and was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Todd; a sister, Gladys Brooks; two brothers, Raymond, Boyd and Bill Edwards; and a bother-in-law, Rex Wyatt. She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Bare of Ennice, Wanda Petty and husband Boyden, and Barbara Miller and husband John, all of Greensboro; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lucille Rutherford, Helen Marker, Clyde Edwards and Nellie Wyatt, all of Ennice; a sister-in-law, Delia Edwards of Ennice; and several nieces and nephews.
