HIGGINS Mrs. Docia Brown Higgins, age 92, of 1029 Shawtown Rd., Glade Valley, N.C., died Friday, October 29, 1999, at the home of her daughter, Lois Dixon of Laurel Springs, N.C. She was the widow of Elder Quincy Higgins. She is survived by seven daughters: Nancy Joines of Lenoir, N.C., Ruth Bryant of Glade Valley, N.C., Mary Holecheck of Hurlock, Md., Lois Dixon of Laurel Springs, Ethel Smith of Sparta, N.C., and Evelyn King and Evone Hull, both of Mt. Airy, N.C.; five sons: John Higgins of Laurel, Del., Herbert Higgins of Seaford, Del., Sam Higgins of Bellingham, Wash., James Higgins of Seaford, Del., and Joe Higgins of Sumter, S.C.; one sister: Ruby Miles of Glade Valley, N.C.; 40 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; Minnie Brown of State Road, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel, with Burial in the Laurel Glen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. The families will be at their respective homes where friends may call at any time. RICHARDSON Mrs. Minnie Mae Brooks Richardson, age 83, of White Rock Road, Thurmond, N.C., died Friday, October 29, 1999 at her home. Mrs. Richardson was born October 17, 1916, in Alleghany County to the late Hort and Ella Royal Brooks. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker and a member of Zion Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Garris. Survivors include her husband: James Doughton Richardson of the home; one sister: Faye Garris of Thurmond; three nephews, Roger Garris of Hamptonville, Donnie Garris of Boonville, and Ronnie Garris of Texas; and three nieces: Shirley Royal of Thurmond, Verna Wall of Pilot Mountain, and Retha Wilson of Ridgeway, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 31, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. at Gib Branch Baptist Church by Eld. Sam Parrish and Eld. Paul Shelton. Burial will follow at Woodruff Cemetery in Roaring Gap. The body will be taken home Saturday at 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is in charge of the arrangements.
THOMPSON Mrs. Rachel Henderson Thompson, age 91, of Glade Valley, N.C., died Tuesday evening, October, 26, 1999, at the Sunbridge Health Care in Sparta, N.C. She is survived by one brother: Dr. A.M. Henderson of Mooresville, N.C.; one sister: Sara H. Adamson of Mooresville, N.C.; a sister-in-law: Attaree Thompson of Glade Valley, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church just in time for funeral services. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. WARDEN Mrs. Virginia Hill Warden, age 75, of 118 Stratford Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Monday, October 25, 1999, at her home. She is survived by her husband: Rex S. Warden, Jr. of the home; one son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy and Jaylene Warden of Piney Creek, N.C.; one daughter: Susan Godwin of Wilkesboro, N.C.; five grandchildren: Matthew Warden, Evan Warden, Grant Warden, Michelle Duncan and Coleman Godwin; and one great-grandson: Nicholas Warden. McGRADY Mr. Roscoe D. McGrady, 96, of 4712 Hwy. 18. North, Sparta, N.C., died Wednesday, October 20, 1999, at the Sunbridge Health Care Center in Sparta. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Stella, and two sons, Clarence & Dale McGrady. MORROW Mrs. Mary Francis Morrow, 78, of Lake Suzy, Florida and Roaring Gap, N.C., died Thursday, October, 14, 1999, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Fla. She was born September 27, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Luella Hankinson Hallenback. She was a winter resident of Lake Suzy for more than 11 years. She was a member of Kingsway Country Club in Lake Suzy and High Meadows Golf and Country Club of Roaring Gap, N.C. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Peter David Morrow who died in 1996. Surviving are two daughters: Anne M. Harrison of Lake Suzy, and Marilyn M. Giacometti of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother: John D. Hallenbeck of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta, N.C., officiated by Dr. James T. Frazier. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery. She was the widow of Charlie G. Collins.
