BLEVINS Mrs. Carrie Parsons Blevins, age 76, of 15650 Old Hwy. 16 North, Grassy Creek, NC., died Sunday, November 28, 1999, at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., she is survived by her husband: Edward Blevins of the home; three daughters: Carmen McNeill of West Jefferson, Angela severt of Jefferson, NC., and Joan Sheets of Sparta, NC.; two brothers: Bertis Parsons and John Parsons , both of Mouth of Wilson, Va.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel with entombment in the Ashelawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at the Badger Funeral Home in West Jefferson.
JEWELL Mrs. Lillie Mae Shumate Jewell, age 67, of Barrett Rd., Ennice, N.C., died Monday evening, November 22, 1999, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by one daughter: Lorene York of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Joe and Kitty Jewell of Sparta, N.C. and Marty Jewell of Sparta; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Crouse Family Cemetery in the Twin Oaks Community of Sparta. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Joe & Kitty Jewell, 224 North Main St., Sparta, N.C.
CAUDILL Mr. James Allen Caudill, age 62, of 32 Carlene St., Sparta, N.C., died Friday, November 19, 1999, at his home. He is survived by his wife: Linda C. Caudill of the home; one daughter: Cindy Billings of Sparta; three sons and daughters-in-law: Tim and Andrea Caudill of Independence, Va., Mike and Karena Caudill of Sparta, N.C., and Steve Caudill of Sparta; six grandchildren: Jessica Caudill, Celeste Caudill, Justin Caudill, Tyler Billings, Grant Caudill and Katelyn Billings; brothers and sisters Arnold Lafon of Taylorsville, N.C., Virginia Bell of Hays, N.C., and Lucy Kerley, Wanda Mecimore, Jimmy Woodring, Leon Woodring, Gail Walker and Patsy Teague all of Taylorsville, N.C. He was preceded in death by a brother: Alfred Ray Lafon. REEVES Miss Rowena Reeves, age 71, of 306 Kilby Rd., Sparta, N.C., the Twin Oaks Community, died Wednesday morning, November 18, 1999, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law: Retha & Ray Smith of Sparta, and Elsie Lineberry of East Bend, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law: Thomas Earl & Lee Reeves of Churchville, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Reeves Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
COKER Mrs. Carolina Stacy Coker, age 97, of 2727 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C., died Wednesday morning, November 10, 1999, at the Brian Center in Charlotte, NC.. She was the widow of Winchestor Coker. She is survived by three children: Dr. Roy W. Coker and Mrs. Mary Carol Miche, both of Charlotte, and Stacy Coker of Laurel, Md.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparta Presbyterian Church. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is serving the Coker family.
HARLESS Mr. Garnett William Harless, age 79, of 10930 Bel Air Drive, Cherry Valley, California, died Saturday, November 6, 1999, at his home. He is survived by his wife: Shirley Cox Harless of the home; three daughters: Lesa A. Howie of Redondo Beach, California, Tammy L. Bailes of Garden City, Kansas, and Lorenda G. Lillard of Ellensburg, Washington; a half-brother: Arthur Steele Harless of Crestview, Fla., a half-sister: Mamie Stamper of Bel Air, Md.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Savannah United Methodist Church with Burial in the Edmonds Community Cemetery. The body will be taken to the Church Friday afternoon where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening. JOINES Mrs. Connie H. Joines, age 67, of 5531 Pine Swamp Rd., Sparta, NC, died Monday morning, November 8, 1999, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband: Paul Ezekiel Joines; and a brother: Hobert "Bo" Bowman. She is survived by a daughter: Lee Ann Joines of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Larry Hatchett of the home, and Bill and Sonja Joines of Sparta, granddaughters and spouse: Terrace and Michael Day of Sparta; two great-granddaughters: Ashley Lauren Day and Micah Noel Day of Sparta; a sister: Virginia Bowman of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a niece and husband: Dorris and Stephen Shumate of Germanton, NC.; a great-niece: Stephanie Shumate; and two great-nephews: Tyler and Chase Shumate. ROBERTS Mrs. Zelma Combs Roberts, age 86, of 273 Independence Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Sunday Morning, November 7, 1999, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Dorothy Roberts of Sparta; one granddaughter and spouse: Lisa and David Edwards of Sparta; one great-granddaughter: Jessica Edwards of Sparta; one brother: Clay Combs of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister, Tavy C. Hein of Bel Air, Md.; a special caregiver: Judy Booe; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Whitehead. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, however, friends may call at the home of Michael and Dorothy Roberts at 89 Woodbrook Rd. Sparta.
RECTOR Little Larry Paul Rector, infant son of Blake and Barbara Rector of Ennice, NC, died Friday, November 5, 1999, at the Watauga Memorial Hospital in Boone, NC. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother: Matthew Blake Rector of the home; a sister: Leanne Paige Rector of the home; his maternal grandparents: Tommy and Mary Lou Higgins of Sparta; his paternal grandparents: Larry and Bonnie Rector of Ennice, NC., his paternal great-grandmother, Ina Rector of Sparta, NC., his paternal great-grand father, John Caudill of Ennice; aunts and uncles Belinda and Tony Masterjohn of Raeford, NC., Nelson and Angelia Rector of Mt. Airy, NC.; first cousin Conner Thomas Masterjohn of Raeford, NC., and a host of great aunts, uncles and cousins. A graveside service was held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Sparta Cemetery. RICHARDSON Mrs. Gaynell Parsons Richardson, age 49, of 220 Elm Bend Rd. Brevard, N.C., and formely of Alleghany County, died Thursday, November 4, 1999, at the Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C. She is survived by her husband: Gerald Richardson of the home; one son and daughter-in-law: Dennis and Stacy Richardson of Rosman, N.C.; a granddaughter: Megan Richardson; her mother: Carolyn Halsey Parsons of Sparta, NC.; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary and Tim Walker, Linda and John Wyatt, all of Sparta; her mother-in-law: Sarah Richardson of Brevard, NC.; a special aunt and uncle: Mary and Bert Spaulding of Sparta; and two nephews and one niece: Timothy Wyatt, Andrew Walker and Melissa Hart. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. PATRICK Mr. John W.W. Patrick, 79, of 2006 Faulk Dr., Tallahassee, Florida, died Monday, November 1, 1999. Mr. Patrick was born February 18, 1920, in Toronto, Canada. His family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1925. He attended public schools grades 1-12 and St. Petersburg Junior College, receiving an A.A. degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1946 and in the Reserve until 1952, having attained the rank of captain. He attended the University of Florida from 1947-1950, receiving his B.A.S. and M.A.E. During that time, he married Catharine E. Clodfelter of Greensboro, NC, with whom he had four wonderful children, John H. Patrick, Frances P. Garvin, David W. Patrick, and Maureen P. Richards, and 10 grandchildren. He served as a teacher and principal at South Side Jr. High and as principal at Bay Point Middle School, St. Petersburg, Fla. His family moved to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1968, where he served in the State Department of Education until his retirement in 1982. He served as a consultant and administrator in the Division of Curriculum and Development. He enjoyed spending his retirement between his two homes in Tallahassee, Fla., and Sparta, NC, and most especially in spending time with his family. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Fla., at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, November 6, 1999. The family will receive friends at a reception following the Service. DILLARD Mrs. Maude Holman Dillard, age 74, of 186 Wolfe Branch Rd., Sparta, N.C., died Tuesday evening, November 2, 1999, at her home. She was the widow of Franklin Garfield Dillard. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Sonny Hudson of Ennice, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Frank and Debbie Dillard, and Randald and Pat Dillard all of Sparta; two brothers: Jim Holman of Jasper, Tn., and Bill Holman of Statesville, N.C.; one sister: Edna Harless of West Jefferson, N.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Little River Primitive Baptist Church with Burial in the Sparta Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services to lie-in-state. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
SPARKS Mrs. Vena Marie Edwards Sparks, age 91, of 2330 Hwy 18 North, Sparta, N.C., died Monday, November 1, 1999, at her home. She was the widow of George Sparks. She is survived by a son: Clarence Sparks of Sparta; and a daughter: Retha Edwards of Sparta; one sister: Lessie Edwards of Sparta; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with Burial in the Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.
