Mr. Bobby Jack “Rab” Henson, age 72, of 1597 Hwy. 18S, Sparta, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Floss Henson, and a brother, Jim Henson. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Alene McCann Henson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Sharon Henson of Sparta; Mark and Malisha Henson of Jefferson, NC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Gene Brown of Hays, NC, and Connie and Dennis Brown of Ennice; one sister, Rose Henke of Ohio; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9th at the Sparta Church of God, Moxley Hollow Road. Burial will follow at the Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Church. Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Wall, age 55, of 77 Wall Lane, Glade Valley, died Sunday, June 4, 2005, in Galax, Va. He was the son of the late, Owen and Opal Baugus Wall. He is survived by two sons, Tommy Lee Wall of Siloam, NC and Jason Owen Wall of Laurel Springs; a daughter, Alicia Denise Wall of Siloam, NC; a grandson, Alexander Michael Wall; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Gray and Shirley Brown Wall of Glade Valley; and a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Robert Parsons of Statesville; Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8th, at the Woodruff Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will gather at the church at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, where friends may call. Deborah Maines Bautista, age 33, of 61 Poplar St., Sparta, died Tuesday, June 3, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by a daughter, Brittany Jones of N. Wilkesboro; her mother, Ruth Maines of Sparta; three brothers, Tommy Maines of Sparta, Billy Maines of Galax, VA, and Lewis Paul Maines, Jr. of Sparta; and her maternal grandmother, Nancy Brannock. A graveside committal service will be conducted at a later date. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis David Pruitt, age 63, of 2872 Comers Rock Road, Elk Creek, Va, and formerly of Alleghany County, died July 30, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Evans Pruitt of the home; a son, Franklin Pruitt of the home; three daughters, Jennifer Pruitt, Krissy Pruitt and Janette Pruitt, all of the home; a half-sister, Wilma Bobbitt of Sparta; sisters-in-law, Jirleen Evans and Reba Sue Evans, both of the home; a brother-in-law and spouse, Mack and Shelby Jean Evans of Galax, Va; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 3rd at the Whitehead Union Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Laurel Glen Cemetery. Mrs. Mary White Calhoun, age 97, of 325 South Main Street, Sparta, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Earl Calhoun and was preceded in death by her son, Bob Calhoun. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ruby Calhoun of Sparta; a grandson and spouse, Tommy and Jane Calhoun of Sparta; a granddaughter, Debbie Calhoun of Greensboro; two great-grandsons, Bobby and Ben Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 1st at the Sparta United Methodist Church. The Rev. Claudia Harrelson and the Rev. Ray O’Ferrell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral service to lie in state. Virginia Rose Brannock Semones, age 64, of 523 Ballpark Road, Sparta, died Thursday evening, July 28, 2005. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jerry Gentry of Chilhowie, Va; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her mother, Nancy Caudill Brannock of Sparta; two sisters, Mary Owens of East Bend, NC, and Ruth Maines of Sparta; amd two brothers, Dean Brannock of Abingdon, Va., and Paul Brannock of Mansville, Oklahoma. Elder Raymond Paul Smith, age 77, of 985 Pine Swamp Road, Sparta, died Thursday morning, July 21, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was the son of the late Paul and Martha Royall Smith and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ray Smith; a sister, Nancy Smith; and a brother, Leon Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Crouse Smith of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. James and Henrietta Smith of Glade Valley; a grandson, Sherlon Smith of Glade Valley; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Finney Moxley and Howard Moxley of Sparta. Mrs. Grace Faircloth Warden, age 84, of 471-B North Main St, Sparta, died Sunday morning, July 17, 2005, at SunBridge of Alleghany. She was the widow of William Wayne Warden, was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and Martha Woodie Faircloth, and by a brother and six sisters. She is survived by a sister, Jackie Mabe of Greensboro; special niece, nephew and caregivers, Deanna Dixon and husband Gene, and Gary Mabe and wife Linda; other nieces and nephews include, Dale Pugh, Dean Pugh, Bobby Pugh, Nickey Pugh, Christine Martin, Ann Triplett, Sam Black, Shirley Carlton, Jewel Brooks, Carol Wheeler, Betty Wyatt, Sharon Cooper, Gail Ritter, Johnna Coffey and Eddie Shulenburger; and special caregivers, Ruth Reed, Peggy McCann, Linea Dixon and Sandy Andrews. Jones Bernard “Bill” Miller, age 62, of 8828 NC Hwy 113, Piney Creek, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was the son of the late Bernard and Myra Garvey Miller and was preceded in death by a daughter and son, Sherry and Mike Miller. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Davis Miller of the home; a son, Logan Miller of the home; special aunt and uncle, Hazel Dean and Tom Smith of Piney Creek; and special cousin, Grace Cox of Piney Creek. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17th at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gwyn Willard Crouse, age 92, of 92 Vox Road, Sparta, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Sunbridge of Alleghany. He was the son of the late Tyre and Lula Cox Crouse, and was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Odell and Elvira Crouse of Sparta; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 15th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. MOTSINGER
ROARING GAP - Mrs. Margaret Mary Kings Motsinger died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Motsinger was born the daughter of Alfred Thomas and Mary Price Kings in London, England, on April 28, 1920. She attended the Haberdashers School, where she developed her guiding principle of life which was "of those to whom much is given, much is expected." She also attended the Institute of Industrial Psychology. She met her husband Gene at the English Speaking Union, where she was a hostess. They married
in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England, on Feb. 2, 1946, and she came to America on a brides' ship. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to people from all walks of life. Among her many activities and interest where; the N.C. Symphony, the Cherry Lane Homemakers, the N.C. Museum of Art, and the Blue Ridge Land Trust. She was active in the Episcopal Church on local, state and national levels. She was active in the Altar Guild and served on the board of the Penick Home and was North Carolina representative for the National Cathedral in Washington. She was a member of the Galloway Memorial Episcopal Church in Elkin. She was a member of the Little Garden Club in Elkin, the Agenda Club in Winston-Salem and the Sparta Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John; and her beloved husband, Gene. She is survived by her children, John Motsinger and wife Kavyo of Lewisville, Rosemary Shaffner of Winston-Salem, Stephen Motsinger and wife Jane of State Road and Alfred Motsinger and wife Dawn of Roaring Gap; and grandchildren Christian and Lissa Sykes, John Jr. and Margaret Shaffner, Daniel, Hanes, Gordon and Sam Motsinger, as well as a great-granddaughter, Amelia Rose. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemary Ripley and husband Dana and their children Angela and Alfred; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition she is survived by her dear cousin, Pat Price, and lifelong friend, Gwyn Sooke. We are particularly grateful to her caregivers Donna Potts and Lanetta Evans and other staff at Bermuda Village. We also thank the staff at Forsyth Medical Center for their kindness and excellent care. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Galloway Memorial Episcopal Church in Elkin.
