FENDER
Mrs. Annie Smith Fender, age 86, of 345 Fender Dairy Lane, Sparta, passed away Saturday morning, November 5, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She is survived by her husband, Reid J. Fender of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Don Sturgill of Sparta; three sons and daughters-in-law, J.R. and Phyllis Fender, David and Barbara Fender, and Randolph and Debbie Fender, all of Sparta; four grandchildren; one great-grand child; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8th at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Crab Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Shirley and Don Sturgill at 18 Pleasant Home Road in Sparta.
CROUSE
Larry Doughton Crouse, age 50, of 358 White Owl Drive, Glade Valley, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Howard Crouse. He was a paramedic with our EMS team and one of our finest. He is survived by his wife, Jayne Staples Crouse of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Paula C. and Robert Meyerhofer of Havelock, NC, and Jennifer Crouse of the home; his mother, Ida Mae Hyatt Crouse of Sparta; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Mack Caudell, Jr. of Sparta, and Suzee and Bobby Cleary of Advance, NC; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Joann Crouse of Hamptonville, and Homer and Karen Crouse of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Cheek Family cemetery off Shawtown Road in Glade Valley. WOODEL
Mr. Talmadge Leo Woodel, age 78 of 4793 Hwy. 18N. Sparta, died Friday morning, December 30, 2005, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Woodel; brothers, Elmo and John Woodel; and a sister, Vernelle Hooker. He is survived by his wife, Gelene “Susie” Blevins Woodel of the home; four sons, James Woodel and Kimmey of Walkertown, Randy Woodel and Christy of North Wilkesboro, Jerry Woodel and Teresa of Sparta, and Gary Woodel and Sandy of Sparta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Marie Woodel, Lewis and Vida Woodel, all of Sparta; his mother, Grace Jones Woodel Ayers of Galax, Va; four sisters, Elaine Higgins of Galax, Va., Elizabeth Cooke of Mt. Airy, Joyce Davis and husband Pete of Galax, and June Douglas of Galax; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2006, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Saddle Mountain Cemetery. Mrs. Emalene Spurlin Todd, age 68, of 9201 Hwy 18N. Ennice, NC, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at her home. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Warf and a sister, Eura Lee Moxley. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Todd of Ennice; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joy Todd of Ararat, NC; four grandchildren, Shawn Todd, Danny Rector and wife Robin, Darrell Rector and wife Mary, Shannon Todd; two sisters, Elaine Hawks and Evon Robinson, both of Ennice; a half-sister, Hazel Smith of Ennice; and two half-brothes, Adlai Spurlin of Ennice and Gene Spurlin of Baywood, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the H.B. Spurlin Memorial Gardens at Ennice. Mr. David Champ Duncan, age 88, of 1183 Bledsoe Creek Road, Sparta, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was a son of the late Glenn and Rose Pardue Duncan and was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Rose Higgins and a brother, Kemp Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Richardson Duncan of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Jean Duncan of Sparta; three sisters, Gretchen Bloodworth of Sparta, Glenna Osborne and husband, Hoyt, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Donna Hardin of Sparta; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Peggy Duncan of Sparta; a special sister-in-law and husband, Billie and Dean Edwards of Sparta; a special niece, Ree Edwards of Sparta; and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phinnie Geneva Norman Killon, age 92, of 2596 Mountain Lake Road, Ennice, died Tuesday morning, December 27, 2005, at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Va. She was the widow of Andy Killon and was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Sizemore. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Larry Leath of Ennice, and Gelene and Whit Sizemore of Galax, Va; two grandchildren, Christy Johnson and husband Billy of Ennice, and Mark Leath of Raleigh; a great grandchild, Easton Johnson; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jamalee and Rush Richardson of Ennice, Geraldine and Larry Caudill of Ennice, and Alfajean and Dan Caudle of Fallston, Md.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Reed and Ella Norman of Ennice, and Mack and Margaret Norman of Galax, Va; and several nieces and nephews. Cora Lee Maines Larue, age 95, of 65 Ridge Glen Road, Sparta, died Thursday evening, December 22, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. She was the widow of Jesse James Larue. She is survived by three daughters, Pauline Sparks of Sparta, Ruby Bobbitt of Sparta, and Louise Larue of the home; a son, Ernest Larue of Sparta; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Linda and Carl Burcham of the home; and other grandchildren include, Brandon Osborne, Daniel Osborne, Helen Williams, Edith Roten and Richard Sparks. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. Mr. Lloyd Eric “Doc” Holliday, age 88, of 491 Wolf Road., Sparta, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ross Holliday. He is survived by a two sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd Dale and Carol Holliday of Miami, Florida, and Robert Lloyd and Jean Holliday of Frostproof, Florida; and three step-grandchildren, Shane, Shawn and Robbie Holliday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m Wednesday, December 28th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. Nancy Killon Dillon, age 55, of Hickory, died Thursday, December 22, 2005, at Pallative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Co., in Newton. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Nellie Coulson Killon. She is survived by her husband, Doug Dillon of the home; one son, Mickey Coleman; a grandson, Raven Coleman; a step-son and wife, John and Dana Dillon; a step-daughter and husband, Jenifer and Robert Dorton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Hugh Shepherd of Ennice, Ruth Ellen and Bruce Wood, and Joyce and Jay Shaw, all of Sparta; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 26th, at the Grandview Memorial Chapel in Sparta. Burial will follow in the Saddle Mountain Cemetery. Mr. Arza Dean Adams, age 77, of 904 Garvey Road, Piney Creek, died Friday morning, December 23, 2005, at his home. He was the son of the late, Elder Floyd and Etta McMeans Adams. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Jones Adams of the home; two sons, Charles Adams of the home, and Harold Adams and his wife, Nancy of Piney Creek; and a grandson, Gregory Adams of Piney Creek. Billings of the home; three daughters, Teresa Billings Crawford of Greenville, SC, Shelia Denise Breetz and husband Greg of Franklin, TN, and Shana Nicole King and husband Josh of Concord, NC; a son, William Charles “Chuck” Billings and wife Amanda of Sparta; two sisters, Marie Williams of Independence, VA., and Georgia Carpenter of Wytheville, VA; a brother, Clarence Billings and wife, Verdia of Burlington, NC; seven grandchildren, Jordan Breetz, Ryan Billings, Bailey Breetz, Kenzie Breetz, Trey Breetz, Madelynn Presnell and Sebastian Presnell; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nina Hash Reeves, age 95, of 149 Welcome Lane, Sparta, died Saturday afternoon, December 17, 2005, at her home. She was the last of ten children born to the late, William and Nannie Mundy Hash. She was the widow of John Reeves and was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Ricky Miller of the home, and Jessie and Colonel Brown of Piney Creek; and a special caregiver, Judy Halsey of Piney Creek.
