Carrie Moretz Trivette age 89 of West Jefferson, NC died Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Trivette was born on February 23, 1914 in Ashe County, NC to Joseph and Alice Houck Moretz. She was a member of the Big Flatts Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Big Flatts Baptist Church. Rev. Charlie McCoy and Rev. Reeves Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in the Big Flatts Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 3, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Smith Miller, age 90, of Jefferson, died Sunday evening at the Ashe Living Center in Jefferson, NC. Rev. Miller was born September 9, 1913, to John and Mary Ann Miller in Ashe County. He attended Gardner-Webb and was a graduate of Wake Forest University. Rev. Miller served as pastor to several local churches. Funeral services for Rev. Miller will be conducted on Wednesday morning at 11:00 am at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jack Pugh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Rev. Miller is survived by five sons: John Miller of Durham, Charles Miller of Raleigh, Wayne Miller of Greensboro, Zane Miller and Dane Miller of Burlington; three brothers: Shade Miller of Jefferson, John Miller and Clint Miller of West Jefferson; three sisters: Pearl Barker of Lansing, Goldie Miller of West Jefferson, and Ada Polk of Mocksville. Two grandchildren also survive. Badger Funeral Home in West Jefferson is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Larry Parsons, age 88 of Jefferson, died Monday, December 15, 2003 at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA. Mr. Parsons was born October 6, 1915 in Wilkes County to the late Rome and Martha Parsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Burgess Parsons. He was a member of Big Ridge Community Church. He was very active in the community. He was also instrumental in saving the old Court House in Jefferson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 18th at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Clayborn Roten will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 till 9:00 PM, Wednesday at Badger Funeral Home. Vetra Rebecca Beshears Houck age 93 of Todd, NC died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the Courtland Terrace Nursing Home in Gastonia, NC Mrs. Houck was born in Wilkes County, NC on November 19, 1910 to D.F. and Della Phillips Beshears. She was preceded in death by her husband James Raynor Houck. Mrs. Houck was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church. She taught school for several years, served as a member of the Ashe County Woman’s Club, and was a very accomplished flower gardener. She was a graduate of High Point High School. She also worked at NC State University and the Women's College. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion United Methodist Church. Rev. Pricilla Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on December 9, 2003 following the funeral service at the Zion United Methodist Church. Lena Senchuck Spangler, age 79 of Jefferson, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center. Mrs. Spangler was born December 20, 1924 in Belarus, Russia. She attended Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Glendale Springs. She loved flowers and crocheting. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ted Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. Ms. Sheets was born on July 2, 1923 in Bluefield, WV to Lester and Flossie Miller Sheets. She was preceded in death by her brother Edd Sheets.
