Vada Black Woodie, age 84, of West Jefferson, NC, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Mrs. Woodie was born November 2, 1919 in Ashe County to the late Noah and Ethel Black. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Woodie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 8, 2004 at the West Jefferson Church of Christ. Minister Tim Canup will officiate. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 PM prior to the service. Mrs. Woodie is survived by: Son: Willard Black of Hickory, NC Sisters: Mamie Eller and Jean Miller both of Jefferson, NC and Virginia Sears of Newark, DE 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Ruby Hart Spencer age 77 of Lansing, NC, died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the Ashe Living Center. Mrs. Spencer was born on September 4, 1926 in Lansing, NC to Rev. M.D. Hart, Sr. and Nora Sullivan Hart. She was a faithful member of Sturgills Baptist Church in Lansing. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lloyd Day and Elder Eddie Lyalls will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spencer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 8, 2004 from 12:30-2:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Walter “Tiny” Wayne Houck, age 53 of West Jefferson, NC, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 at NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Mr. Houck was born February 25, 1951 in Ashe County to the late Glayden and Hazel Houck. He served his country in the US Navy. He was a Vietnam veteran. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at the Smethport Baptist Church. Rev. James Seacrest, Rev. Chris Goodman and Rev. Roger Blevins will officiate.
