Sarah Lucretta Gaultney Blevins, age 91, of Kannapolis, NC, formerly of Ashe County died Monday, July 28, 2003 at the Transitional Health Services in Kannapolis. Mrs. Blevins was born July 20, 1912 in Wise County, Virginia to the late Jeffs and Bertha Gaultney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Brownlow Blevins and two sons; Zane and Gerald Blevins. Mrs. Blevins moved to Ashe County from Virginia at age 15 and lived here until moving to Kannapolis in 1956. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 30th at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in the Healing Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 PM prior to the service. Mrs. Blevins is survived by: One daughter: Sue Shaffer of Chickasha, OK Three sons: Ed Blevins of Warrensville, NC, Alan Blevins of Monroe, NC and James Blevins of Kannapolis, NC Two brothers: Ed Gaultney of Kings Mountain, NC and Claude Gaultney of Ashe County 21 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Lura Edith Barr Shoaf, age 97 of Warrensville, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Shoaf was born June 10, 1906 in Ashe County. Her husband, John Shoaf, preceded her in death. Mrs. Shoaf was the oldest member of the Warrensville Baptist Church. She taught the children’s Sunday school class at Warrensville Baptist Church for many years. She loved bird watching and quilting. She was a mother to the community, and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 12th at the Warrensville Baptist Church. Rev. Wayne Osborne will officiate. Burial will follow in the Jefferson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 till 11:00 AM prior to the service. 11 nieces and nephews survive Mrs. Shoaf. Nicholas Wiley “Nick” Blackburn age 93 of Crumpler, NC died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Blackburn was born on March 8, 1910 in Ashe County, NC to Rev. William and Cora Plummer Blackburn. He was preceded in death by his wife Winnie Catherine Goins Blackburn, and daughter Winonah Beth Blackburn. He was a member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church. He worked as a dairy farmer for many years. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 23, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Jones will officiate. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 24, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at the Healing Springs Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 23, 2003 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. Blanche S Roark age 84 of West Jefferson, NC died Saturday, July 26, 2003 at the Watauga Medical Center. Mrs. Roark was born on April 15, 1919 in Ashe County, NC to Ed and Pearl Bowers Roark. She was a member of the Round Knob Baptist Church, and served as a volunteer for the Ashe County Foster Grandparent Program. She loved to read, garden, and was a devoted wife and mother. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jack Pugh, Rev. Steve Viers, and Rev. Ralph Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2003 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Joseph Pell Dancy, age 91 of Glendale, Arizona, died Monday, June 24, 2002 in Arizona. Mr. Dancy was born September 9, 1910 in Ashe County to Wilson and Lucy Lyall Dancy. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Maggie Dancy. He was a member of the West Side Church of God in Phoenix, AZ. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Dancy Family cemetery in Jefferson.
