James Roy Church, age 85 of Fleetwood, NC died Friday, June 27, 2003 at Glenbridge Nursing Home in Boone. Mr. Church was born on February 1, 1918 in Ashe County to Wiley and Murdie McNeill Church. He was a member of Old Fields Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, poultry farming and gardening. He’ll be remembered as a precious, loving grandfather who loved playing with his grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 29, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jack Miller and Dr. Gary Pitts will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Fields Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Gertie Lee Perkins Phillips age 83 of Warrensville, NC died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. Mrs. Phillips was born on July 25, 1919 in Ashe County, NC to Tom and Cora Barker Jones. She was a member of the Warrensville United Methodist Church. She had a great love for the Warrensville Community, and loved to work in her flower garden. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband Webb Perkins. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 4, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at the Warrensville United Methodist Church. Rev. Rodney Frye will officiate. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Lyalls was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, and attended Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Lena Grace Taylor Hogue, age 60 of Jefferson, NC, died Sunday at her home. Ms. Hogue was born September 3, 1942 in Ashe County to the late Robert and Sessie Taylor. She was also preceded in death by four brothers; Buck, Shubie, Lynn and Fred Taylor. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed singing gospel music with her brothers and family. She was known as a charitable and giving person. She loved to cook and had worked in a restaurant for many years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Crawford, Rev. Billy Joe Blevins and Minister Harry Osborne will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery.
