Stella Mae Dillard Speaks, age 80 of Germanton, NC died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Village Care Center in King, NC. Mrs. Speaks was born July 2, 1923 in Ashe County to the late George W. and Callie Bare Dillard. She retired from Camel City Laundry where she was a receptionist. She attended Gospel Light Baptist Church. She was a loving mother to her children. She will be greatly missed by the people who knew and loved her. Many people gathered at her home for her great country cooking, especially her biscuits. She could take nothing and make the best meals. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 21st at Bethel Baptist Church in West Jefferson. Elder James McNeill and Rev. Ross Harless will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dillard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 till 9:00 PM Wednesday, August 20th at Badger Funeral Home. Mrs. Speaks is survived by: 3 sons: John Edward Speaks and wife Shelia of King, NC, Donald Allen Speaks and wife Donna of Lexington, NC & Phillip Wayne Speaks and wife Patsy of Germanton, NC 1 daughter: Lena Kate Purvis of Jacksonville, FL 2 brothers: Junior Dillard and wife Viola of Glendale Springs, NC & Dean Dillard of West Jefferson, NC 4 sisters: Opal Phillips and husband Foster of Millers Creek, NC. Pearl Church and husband Richard of Millers Creek, NC, Blanche Spears and husband Baxter of Wilkesboro, NC & Yvonne Lowder and husband Red of Mississippi. 11 great grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, Gina & Rick Johnson of Lexington, NC and a host of special friends at Village Care. Walter Warren Bare, age 72 of Winston Salem, NC formerly of Glendale Springs, NC, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bare was born on April 30, 1930 in Ashe County, NC to Don C. and Ada Severt Bare. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bare graduated from NC State University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He graduated from Lehigh University with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. He was a Senior Engineer at Lucent Technologies in Winston-Salem retiring in 1989. He was member of the Winston Salem Moose Lodge #466. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 2, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bill Ballou will officiate. A military graveside will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2003 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at Badger Funeral Home. Rosa Osborne Brown age 92 of Warrensville, NC died Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the Ashe Living Center. Mrs. Brown was born August 15, 1911 in Ashe County, NC to Alvin and Callie Osborne. She enjoyed working in her garden, canning, and making quilts. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 25, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Floyd Clinton Farrington, age 77 of Jefferson, the Ebenezer community, died Monday, October 13, 2003 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Farrington was born October 17, 1925 in Ashe County to the late James and Lola Farrington. Mr. Farrington served in WWII and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He married
Dona Lou Alonzo on January 30, 1960. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Rev. Ray Shumate, Elder Floyd South and Rev. Hazel Jones Denny age 91 of Jefferson, NC died Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Segraves Care Center. Mrs. Denny was born on June 22, 1912 in Ashe County, NC to James Calvin and Lucinda Toole Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Gwyn Denny, son Kenneth W. Denny, and daughter Janice Kay Denny Lewis. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 5, 2003 at 3:00 P.M. at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Blackburn and Rev. Jeff Vogler will officiate. Mrs. Denny will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the Healing Springs Baptist Church.
