Patricia Rose Jones
September 15, 1937 - December 12, 2004

Candler - Patricia Jones, 67, went home to be with her Lord with her family by her side Sunday, December 12, 2004, at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center after an extended illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she retired from Cardinal Healthcare, formerly American Threshold.

She was the daughter of the late Jennings Coy and Verla Mae Biggs Buckner. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jennings Coy Buckner, Jr.

Surviving are her husband, John Earl Jones of the home; her two children: Ricky Earl Jones and his wife Dora Lynn of Canton, and Kimberly Mae Warren and her husband Ronald Kenneth of Candler; her grandchildren: Jennifer Marie Shope, David Allen Buckner, and Jeremy Brandon Jones; a great-granddaughter, Alexa Rain Jones; her sister, Virgie Lee Ogle of West Asheville; her brother, Kenneth and his wife Mary Helen Buckner of West Asheville, her sister-in-law, Eleanor Buckner of West Asheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday in Green Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Jackie Collins officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to: Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, N.C. 28813.

The family would like to express their thanks to the physicians and staff of the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center for their kindness and understanding.

Dixie Lee Franks
May 13, 1947 - December 15, 2004

Arden - Dixie Lee Penland Franks, 57, of 9 Norton Lane died icon Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals.

A native of Henderson County, she had lived in Bucombe County for most of her life. She was a cherished mother, “nana”, daughter, sister and friend.

She was the daughter of Arsula Pressley Penland of Asheville and the late Ralph Edward Penland. She was also preceded in death by her son, Christopher Franks, brother, John Penland, and sister, Frances Ray.

Surviving in addition to her mother are her son, Junior Franks and wife Joanna of Asheville; daughters, Sissy Holcombe and husband Henry of Enka and Sharon Leicht and husband Eugene of Arden; former husband, Gene Franks of Candler; grandchildren, Lindsay and Taylor Holcombe, Kevin and Matt Leicht, Zack, Nathan and Stephanie Franks; sisters, Margaret Thomas of Almond and Ann Ledford of Asheville; brothers, Mack Penland of Woodfin, Walter Penland of Fletcher and J.R. Penland of Fairview.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bert Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Penland Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

George Follett Jr.
September 5, 1926 - December 16, 2004

Asheville - George Ervin Follett, Jr., 78, of 80 Allen Street died icon Thursday December 16, 2004 at the Blue Ridge Health Care Center after a period of declining health.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church and had retired from the Buncombe County Court House Maintenance Dept. after 20 years of service. He was a son of the late George Ervin Follett, Sr. and Edith Hensley Follett. He was also preceded in death by a son Patrick C. Hampton; brother, Harry Follett: sisters, Mildred Frazier and Juanita Sprinkle and great granddughter, Haela Hensley.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel Byers Follett of the home; daughters, Gail Kent of Tampa, Fl., Ann Hensley of Candler and Jackie MacVean of Charlotte; sister, Winifred Crowder of Asheville; brother, Rev. Bill Follett of Asheville; grandchildren, Christopher Hensley, Kenneth Hensley, Adrian MacVean, Kendall MacVean, Jacqueline Chappell-Johnston, Cliff Kent, Jeffrey Hampton and Krystal Hampton-Leal and great grandchildren, Talon Hensley and Ashley Leal.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Michael Carter and Bill Follett officiating.

Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12 noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Hazel Capps Standridge
May 9, 1932 - April 20, 2002

Asheville - Hazel Capps Standridge, 69, of 895 Riverside Drive died icon Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Brian Center Health Care Center after a period of declining health.

A native of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County most of life and was a former secretary for N.S. Standridge Plumbing Company.

She was a daughter of the late Earl and Pearl Randall Capps and was also preceded in death by her a brother, Don Capps.

Surviving are her husband, Noble Silas Standridge of the home; son, James Earl Standridge and wife, Pat of Asheville; daughters, Nancy Rogers and husband, Ray of Leicester and Janet McCarson and husband, Robert of Candler; sisters, Pat Mortier of Weaverville, Mary Helton of Asheville, Relda Capps of Candler and Nina Gillespie of Leicester; brothers, Roy Capps of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Ralph Capps of Weaverville; grandchildren, Arthur Rogers, Sheila Freeman, Marty Standridge and Jennifer Standridge; great grandchildren, Michael and Brandon Freeman, Shelby and Jake Standridge.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Tuessday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Rhinehart officiating. Burial will be in French Broad Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Charlie Treadway, Ronnie Gillespie, Jeff Treadway, Johnny Gillespie, Ricky Mortier and Jeremy Capps.

Marion Louise Cole
June 13, 1909 - January 28, 2004

Asheville - Marion Louise Everett Cole, 94, of 100 Riceville Rd., The Summit, died icon Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at her residence.

A native of Ontonagon County, Michigan. Mrs. Cole had resided in Buncombe County since 1972.

She was a High School Teacher with over 30 years of service as an educator.

Mrs. Cole was a daughter of the late Charles Raymond Everett and Elsie Blanch Hooper Everett and the wife of Ralph Wesley Cole who died icon February 26, 1982.

Surviving are her son, Curtis R. Cole of Leicester; step son, Eugene Cole and wife, Pat of Sterling Heights, Michigan: 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2004, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating.

The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
