Betty M. Gaddy

Asheville - Betty Marie Parris Gaddy, 72, of 234 Old County Home Road died
Sunday, February 1, 2004, at Memorial Mission Hospital following an extended illness.
A native and resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was former owner and operator of Little Rascal’s Day Care on Haywood Road and Hendersonville Highway and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late James Andrew Roland Parris and Pansy Plemmons Parris Black.
Surviving are her husband, Delbert “Deb” Eugene Gaddy of the home; sons, Rodney “Rod” Eugene Gaddy and wife, Anne, James “Jim” Marion Gaddy and wife, Stephanie and Robert “Bob” Michael Gaddy and wife, Kathleen all of Asheville; grandchildren, Brian Gaddy and wife, Michelle, Scott Gaddy and wife, Young Soon, Kevin Gaddy, Chelsey Gaddy, James Gaddy and Robert Gaddy; great grandchildren, Scott Gaddy, Jr. and Lindsey Gaddy; sisters, Barbara Morgan of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Freeman of Melbourne, FL and Nancy Crompton of Asheville.
Funeral services will be held 3 pm Friday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm Friday at the church and at other times the family will be at the residence.
William Glenn "Bill" Freeman
November 26, 1915 - October 10, 2003
Asheville - Bill Freeman, 87, died
Friday October 10, 2003 at Mountain Area Solace.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from the Buncombe County Schools Maintenance Department after 28 years of service. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Millard Fillmore and Essie Magdalena Capps Freeman and was also preceded in death by his son, William Reeves Freeman and his daughter Virginia Lee Freeman Radford.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Lottie Mae Clark Freeman of the home; son, Bobby Cordell Freeman and wife Nancy of Asheville; four grandchildren, Bobby Keith Freeman and wife Renee of Asheville, Cynthia L. Radford of Travelers Rest, S.C., Andrea D. Radford of Durham, Kymberly Freeman Enriquez of Grants Pass, OR. and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at New Liberty Baptist Church with the Revs. Garry Rogers and Danny Little officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Johnathan S. Giardina
January 30, 1970 - October 16, 2003
Mars Hill - Johnathan Stein Giardina, 33, of 2572 Fox Creek Road died
unexpectedly Thursday October 16, 2003.
A native of San Francisco, California, he had resided in Yancey County for the past 4 years.
He was a paramedic with the Buncombe County Rescue Squad where he held the rank of Captain. Johnathan was a certified Swift Water Rescue Technician, an Emergency Rescue Technician and a Search and Rescue Technician.
Surviving are his parents, Nicholas and Mary Deborah Marinello Giardina of the home; brother, Nicholas G. Giardina of Los Angeles, California; paternal grandparents, John and Helen Giardina of Buffalo, NY; maternal grandmother, Rita S. Marinello of Scottsdale, AZ.; girlfriend, Lindsay Jellison of Black Mtn. and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins of the Hess Family, the VanVolkenburg Family, the Hirtreiter Family and the Varga Family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday an Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Father Dave Brzoska officiating and honors conducted by the Buncombe County Firefighters Association Honor Guard.
Burial will be in the Giardina Family Cemetery
in Yancey County.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all the members of the Buncombe County Rescue Squad and to the faculty, staff and fellow students in the EMS Program at A-B Tech. A special thanks to David Plyler, Ned Fowler and Amanda Soule who encouraged and helped in the pursuit of his career as a paramedic.
Luther "Luke" Robinson
November 7, 1925 - October 16, 2003
Woodfin - Luther “Luke” Robinson, 77 of 15 McPhearson Street, died
Thursday October 16, 2003 at V.A. Medical Center, Asheville.
A life long resident of Buncombe County. He was a graduate of Old Farm School in Swannanoa, a W.W.II Navy Veteran and a member of VFW Post #891.
He was a son of the late Herman and Bertha Gardner Robinson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil and Bill Robinson.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Leslie Hoke Robinson of the home and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Enoch Ball, Jr. officiating. Entombment will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William Lewis "Bill" Ashe
October 22, 1923 - October 14, 2003
Hendersonville - William Lewis “Bill” Ashe, 79, of 118 Turley Falls Rd., died
Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Elizabeth House.
A native of Jackson County, NC. He had lived most of his life in Buncombe County before moving to Hendersonville in 1996. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire and then was employed with Bell Tone Hearing Aid. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hendersonville and a former member and deacon of Westwood Baptist Church. He was a Navy Veteran serving in W.W.II and the Korean War.
He was a son of the late Houston and Rixie Ensley Ashe. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva Smith, Lucille Evans and Irene Marsh.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Elliott Ashe of the home; sons, Terry Ashe and wife, Donna of Knoxville and Bruce Ashe and wife, Sharon of Hendersonville; step-son, Richard Bell of Candler; step-daughter, Marsha Lynch and husband, Lloyd of Candler; grandchildren, Eric Ashe, Amanda Bryant, Graham Ashe and Price Ashe; step grandchildren, Jeff Bell, Tina Bartell, Matthew Lynch and Chris and Bryan Carpenter; great granddaughters, Alleah and Chloe Bryant.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Mullinax officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Friday at the funeral home.
