Ruby M. Benson

Candler - Ruby M. Rector Benson, 88, of 95 Holcombe Cove Road, died
Thursday September 25, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Madison County. She lived all of her life in Buncombe County.
She was a daughter of the late Dexter and Deffie Price Rector. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jackson Benson; son, Kenneth Joe Benson; a brother and 3 sisters.
Surviving are her daughters, Jo Anne King and husband, Furman of Leicester, Linda Head and husband, Paul of Canton and Pasty Buckner of Candler; sister, Bonnie Stepp of Aquone, NC; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Bobby Benson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Ralph Vernon "Red" Garrison
July 12, 1939 - October 5, 2003
Fairview - Ralph “Red” Vernon Garrison, 64, of 951 Old Fort Road, caught his train to Glory Sunday, October 5, 2003 at his residence with his family by his side.
A lifelong resident of Fairview. He was owner and operator of R. V. Garrison Electric and was a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was a son of Geneva Catherine Owenby Garrison of Fairview and the late Andrew Calhoun Garrison. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ray “Jason” Garrison and Jerry Garrison.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, of 40 years, Clara Sue Jenkins Garrison of the home; daughters, Yvonne Banks and husband, Terry of Fairview and Lisa Garrison of Greenville, SC; son, Raymond Garrison and wife, Susie of Fairview; sisters, Shirley Wright of Black Mountain, Eva Morgan and Edna “Popeye” Ray both of Fairview; brothers, Marvin Garrison, Joe Garrison and Alvin Garrison all of Fairview and Gordon Garrison of Candler; grandchildren, Tyler Garrison, Michael and Shawn Banks, Drew and Jessica Shelton and Blake Owens; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Cane Creek Cemetery
with the Rev. Jeff Burchette and Rev. Norris Wright officiating. Jonathan Ray, Mr. Garrison’s nephew, will provide his message in music.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.

James Ernest Wamsley

Asheville - James Ernest Wamsley, 60, of 192-B O’Donald Rd. died
Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph’s Health System.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Enoch Bernard and Edna Mae Matheny Wamsley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Denise; daughter, Angela; faithful companion, Daisy.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Lewis officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home.
Dennis Dan Crawford
June 13, 1948 - July 5, 2003
Asheville - Dennis Dan Crawford, 55, of 109 Dix Creek Chapel Rd. died
Saturday, June 5, 2003 at his residence. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam.
Mr. Crawford was the son of the late George Wesley and Geneva Johnson Crawford. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Eugene Crawford.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Ward Crawford of the home; daughter, Monacia and fiancé David; grandchildren, Randy and Mystie Hancock, and Felicia Johnson; brothers, Bobby Crawford of Tenn. and Carroll Crawford of Salisbury; father and mother-in-law, Lyle and Dorothy Ward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jesse Odell "Bubbles" Hamlin
September 7, 1934 - July 2, 2003
Asheville - Jesse Odell “Bubbles” Hamlin, 68, of 599 North Louisiana Ave., Lot # 94 died
Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Jacob Floyd and Hattie Lillie West Hamlin.
Mr. Hamlin was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Emma Baptist Church.
He retired in 1995 from the Asheville Transit Systems where he was an Operator for 28 years. Following his retirement he served with the Asheville Citizen-Times as a Van Driver for the past 4 years.
Surviving are his wife Darlene Rice Hamlin of the home; son, David Ray Hamlin of Fletcher; grandson, Devon Ray Hamlin of Fletcher; sister, Mary Hamlin Thomas and husband, Charles (Norman) of Asheville; father and mother in law, Paul & Irene Rice of Leicester; brothers in law, James W. Rice and wife, Lydia of Asheville and David Rice and wife, Linda of Asheville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Emma Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Sorrells officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Saturday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
