Candler - Jean Stamey Davis, 66, of 1691 Pisgah Hwy, died
Tuesday July 1, 2003 at her residence.
A native of Henderson County, she had lived most of her life in Buncombe County. She had worked for Pisgah View Ranch and retired from Hyman Young Greenhouse.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas Harland and Roxie Morris Stamey. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Stamey, Myrtle Cole, Clara Nelms and Joann Lesley; brothers, James, Charles and Ted Stamey.
Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Charles L. Davis of the home; son, Steven Lee Sharpe and wife, Louise of Arden; daughter, Patsy Diana Hutto and husband, Fred of Candler: sister, Lucy Mae Moore of Winston-Salem; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Pisgah Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Denham officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church and at other times will be at the residence.

Ruth Madeline Gowan Rogers
July 7, 1913 - June 30, 2003
Asheville - Ruth Madeline Price Gowan Rogers, 89, died
Monday June 30, 2003 at Memorial Mission Hospital after a brief illness.
A native of Knoxville, Tn. she had lived in Buncombe County since 1943. She was a daughter of the late Lon and Beulah Bean Price and the wife of the late E. Unie Gowan and James Rogers.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Jane Barnett of Asheville; son, Rev. Lon Hugh Gowan of Altoona, Pa.; 6 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery
with the Rev. Ray Woodby officiating.
Lois Mary Parks Williams
March 4, 1919 - June 26, 2003
Leicester - Lois Mary Parks Williams, 84, of 25 Redbud Lane, Leicester, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2003.
A native of Swain County, she had resided in Buncombe County for 30 years. Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Matthew and Melissa Watkins Parks, and a member of Powell’s Branch Baptist Chruch.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of 66 years Cecil Williams; children, Joyce Ledford and husband Claude of Leicester, Cecil Williams Jr. and wife Pat of Candler, Sheila Stewart and husband Randy of Arden; sister, Hettie Rose of Marion; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Winebarger officiating. Burial will folow in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Anders-Rice Funeral home is assisting the family.
Coleman Crowe
March 22, 1934 - June 25, 2003
Candler - Coleman Crowe, 69, of Upper Glady Fork Rd. died
Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph’s Health System.
A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a member of Glady Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Crowe was the son of the late Robert Levi and Pearlie Louise Ball Crowe and was the husband of the late Martha Joann Reed Crowe. He was also preceded in death by a brother, J.T. Crowe, and a niece, Debra.
Surviving are his son, Jeffery Dean Crowe of Candler; brother, Albert Crowe and wife Arlene of Candler; nieces, Karen, Krista, and Kelly; nephews, Kevin and Robert.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday at Glady Fork Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Sprinkle, Gerald Sprinkle, and Tommy Crowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 PM Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Stephen Lee "Steve" Maynard
November 20, 1955 - June 25, 2003
Asheville - Stephen Lee “Steve” Maynard, 47, of 20 Kenwood Avenue died
Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He retired in 1997 after 15 years of service with the City of Asheville water Department where at the time of his retirement he served as a Supervisor.
Mr. Maynard was a son of the late Carl Thomas Maynard and Betty Maynard Lamb.
Surviving are his son, Ronnie L. Maynard of Asheville; grandchildren, Stephen Kenneth Maynard, Scottie Lee Maynard and Serena Marie Maynard all of Asheville; sisters, Karen Lee of Leicester and Ann Williams of Asheville; brothers, Danny Maynard and Ronnie R. Maynard both of Asheville; 10 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 4 PM Monday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry J. Bowers officiating.
The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
