Arthur Jenkins "Art" Fryar

Asheville - Arthur Jenkins Fryar, 65, of 22 Robinhood Road died
Friday, April 21, 2006 at his residence.
A native of Oneida, Tennessee and a resident in Asheville since 1960. He was owner and operator of Scandals and the former Cahoots and had served in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Fryar is a son of the late Volney Vestal Fryar and Mayme Vernon Lawson Fryar.
Surviving are his brother, Michael V. Fryar and wife, Brenda of Fairview; nieces, Melissa and Christy Fryar and great nephew, Ian Fryar all of Asheville; extended family, Larry Hunsicker, Andrew Simons, Patrick Cusack, Tressa Thornton, Terri Abernethy, Katherine Freyfogle, Pat Rhea, Mike Stallings and Trevor Knowles all of Asheville.
Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.

Patricia Suzanne Lewis

Leicester - Patricia Suzanne Lewis, 63, of 204 West Wonder Road, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center following a period of declining health.
A native of St. George, SC, she had resided in Buncombe County for the past 35 years. She had worked with the Council on Aging as a meal site manager, and had been a member of Newfound Baptist Church for the past 34 years.
She was the daughter of the late Willard Evans and Susie Boswell, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Evans.
Surviving are her husband, Landon Lewis, of the home; her son, Rev. Mark Lewis of Leicester; her daughter, Lisa Reeves of Leicester; and four grandchildren: Christine Lewis, John Lewis, Morgan Reeves and Lesley Reeves.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday at Newfound Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Phillips and Mark Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM Saturday at the church.

Leonard M. Johnston

Asheville - Leonard Marvin Johnston, 85, of 6 Ferry Road passed away Monday April 17, 2006 at Magnolia Health Care Center following a brief Illness.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from Gerber Baby Products and formerly attended Trinity Baptist Church.
Mr. Johnston had also retired as a Master Sergeant with the United States Army following 21 years of service and was a Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a son of the late Boyd Duffus Johnston and Gertrude Buckner Johnston and was also preceded in death by brothers Bill, Jim and Aaron Johnston
Surviving are his daughters Carol Ann Skinner and husband Duane of Lee Summit, MO and Linda Shanahan of Blue Springs, MO; sons, Rusty Johnston and wife Barbara of Louisville KY and Gary Johnston and wife Robin of Buffalo MO; sister, Louise Gosnell of Asheville; brother, Duff Johnston and wife Margaret of Asheville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Arvil Baker

Arden - Arvil Junior Baker, 64, of 19 Holly Hill Drive went to be with his Lord Monday, April 17, 2006 at his home.
Born in Yancey County he moved to Buncombe County in 1962. He retired in December of 2005 following 44 years of service from Cemex Company where at the time of his retirement he was Plant Superintendent.
Mr. Baker was a member of Words of Life Tabernacle and was a member of the Land of the Sky Bassmasters since 1977.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dewey Baker and Lucy Jane Waycaster Baker and was also preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Baker and two sisters, Velvie Smith and Thelma Honeycutt.
Surviving are his wife, Diana Baker of the home; two sons Dwayne Baker of Arden and Danny Baker and wife, Margaret of Brevard; daughter Crystal Wright and husband, Randall of Arden; brother, Eddie Baker and wife Lucille of Asheville; grandchildren, Hannah Marie Wright and Samuel David Wright II of Arden; step-grandchildren, Felicia Walker, Angelica McGraw and Tiffany McGraw; step-great grandson, Tristen Walker.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Words of Life Tabernacle with Pastor Carl Bishop and Rev. Jimmy Page officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Maxwell, Dwight Meadows, Mike Hayes, Randy Wright, Gene Horrell and Jerry Perkins
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.

Ronald Ray "Ron" Autrey

Charlotte - Ronald Ray “Ron” Autrey, 62, of 6838 Oldecastle Court went to be with his Lord Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte following an extended illness.
A native of Buncombe County and a resident of Mecklenburg County since 1986. He was a son of the late Ray James and Leatha Messer Autrey and was also preceded in death by his brother, Alan Autrey and sister, Barbara Shook.
Mr. Autrey was a Lighting Designer and a former member and Past President of Illuminating Engineering Society. He was a member of United Faith Assembly of God in Charlotte where he had been active in the Nursing Home Ministry and where he loved sharing God’s message through music.
Surviving are his wife, Sheryl Autrey of the home; son, Michael Ray Autrey and wife, Edwina of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Susan McCoy and husband, Jerry of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Chelsea Autrey, Felix Altamirano, Nathan and Patrick McCoy; brother in law, Ned Shook of Asheville; niece, Cheryl Wood and husband, Wade of Asheville; great nephews, Aubrey, Casey, Bailey and Carey.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Brown officiating.. Burial will be in Pisgah View Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
