Mary Doris Nadal
February 14, 1932 - April 19, 2005
Asheville - Mary Doris Nadal, 73, of 324 Old County Home Road, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center after a period of declining health.
A native of Madison County, she had resided in Buncombe County for the past 26 years. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and formerly employed with Thom’s Rehabilitation Center for 12 1/2 years. She was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. Ms. Nadal was the daughter of the late Isaac Thomas and Ina Genola Brigman.
Surviving are her son, Steven Roger Wilkinson of Asheville; her daughter, Kim Elaine Denison of Knoxville, TN; and her sister, Ina Paris Moxley and her husband Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Revs. Jonathan Stewart and Jim Whitted officiating. Burial will be in the Gillis Family Cemetery
in Mars Hill.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Billy Jack Allen Jr.
June 30, 1955 - April 16, 2005
Alexander - Billy Jack Allen, Jr., 49, of 226 Rhymer Road, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was a graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School and employed with Broadlands Company.
He was the son of Lois McFalls Allen of Woodfin and the late Billy Jack Allen, Sr.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Debra Allen of the home; son, Billy Jack Allen, III of Woodfin; step daughter, Tessa Nowlin of Marshall; step-son, Donald Michaels of Candler; sister, Barbara Parker of Asheville; and three nephews. He was a wonderful Papaw to his four beautiful granddaughters, Amanda, Emily, Shanna and Jacklyn.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bowman-Rector Cemetery, Marshall with the Rev. Chuck Waldrup officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home .

Bertha Swafford
April 30, 1939 - May 5, 2005
Candler - Bertha Mae Thomas Ramsey Swafford, 66, of 12 Sagefield Drive died
Tuesday May 3, 2005 after an extended illness.
A native of Madison County, she lived in Buncombe County for the last 25 years. She was a member of Belva Baptist Church and was a daughter of the late Jesse and Jossie Roberts Thomas and the wife of the late Clyde Ramsey.
Surviving are her sons, David Ramsey of Lawton, OK. and Dean Ramsey of Candler; daughters, Kim Fowler of Asheville and Kathy Smith of Candler; 5 sisters, 3 brothers, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Butch Stillwell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Patricia Catherine "Patsy" Chambers
August 2, 1943 - April 22, 2005
Asheville - Patricia “Patsy” Catherine Chambers, 61, of 95 Richmond Hill Rd.- Building #3, died
Friday, April 22, 2005.
A native of Portsmouth, VA. She was a resident of Asheville for the past 5 years.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph Everett Chambers and Ivory Etta Blevins Chambers and was also preceded in death by her sister, Gailya Johnson.
She is survived by her son, Roland Cecil “Jonathan” Nutt of Greenville County, VA; daughter, Catherine Denise Fletcher Rash and husband, Tony of Elk Creek, VA; 3 grandchildren; uncles, Herbert Harrison Chambers and wife, Patsy of Appomattox, VA and Ernest Chambers and wife, Willie of Suffolk, VA; aunts, Mary Brown and husband, Arthur of Chilhowie, VA and Ellen Blevins of Norfolk, VA and a host of cousins.
No services are planned at this time.
Larry Shelton West
June 10, 1947 - April 25, 2005
Asheville - Larry Shelton West, 57, of 5 Andieange Circle, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005 at the VA Medical center.
A native of Pine Bluff, AR, he had resided for the past 2 1/2 years in Buncombe County. He was an electrician and a member of The Ark of Faith Church in Monticello, AR. He served his country from 1967-1970 in the US Army Signal Corps.
He was the son of the late Carl and Mildred Beard West. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Carlene Jarrett, Betty Harlow, and Rece Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Dukes West of the home; his daughter, Stephanie Hamlin of Asheville; his two sons: Raymond West and wife Leah of Warren, AR, and David West of Strafford, MO; three sisters: Faye Owens and husband Robert of Wilmar, AR, Janie Nicholson and husband Wayne of Monticello, AR; and Laura Ferguson and husband Mark of Hermitage, AR; two brothers: Donald West and wife Tina of Shickshinney, PA and Robert West of Wilmar, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
