Della Payne Sluder

Leicester - Della Payne Sluder, 84, of 200 Morgan Branch Road died
unexpectedly Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Ball Brothers Corp. She was a loving wife, mother and “Mamaw” and she loved sewing & quilting, gospel singing and going to church.
Mrs. Sluder was the daughter of the late Thomas and Zora Frisbee Payne and was the wife of the late Donald Sluder who died
April 21, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Sluder, grandson, Robert McCracken, great granddaughter, Nikkie Sluder and sisters, Virginia Stepp, Geneva Sexton and Lucille Sexton.
Surviving are her daughters, Joy Cipar and husband Dale of Leicester, Kay McCracken and husband David of Asheville and Melinda Morgan and husband Webb of Leicester; son, Wayne Sluder and wife Kathryn of Leicester; sister, Edith Cooper of Candler; grandchildren, Karen Candler, Autumn Radcliff, Josh Cipar, Amy Cipar, Jeff and Tony Sluder; great grandchildren, Kassie McCracken, Mark & Jennifer Sluder and Kacey Sluder.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Monday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Michael Scroggs and Ralph Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Mtn. View Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Autumn Radcliff, 209 Morgan Branch Rd., Leicester.

Bryan William Rice
December 3, 1925 - December 23, 2004
Cleveland, S.C. - Bryan William Rice, 79, of 280 Copperline Drive passed away Thursday December 23, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, S.C. after a brief illness.
A native of Buncombe County, he lived in the Flat Creek Community prior to moving to Cleveland, S.C. 8 years ago. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church for 30 years and later became a member of Mariette First Baptist Church. He retired from the United States Marine Corps. after 20 years of service as a GySgt and was a WW II and Korean War veteran. He was a son of the late Nelson James and Decie Stewart Rice.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Frances Katherine Harris Rice of the home; sons, Alan Bryan Rice and wife Wanda Coates Rice of Travelers Rest, S.C., David William Rice and wife Jennifer Logan Rice of Central, S.C. and Gary Stephen Rice and wife Donna Roberts Rice of Wilmington; sisters, Bonnie Tessniar, Lucille Yarborough, Margaret Greene and Betty Evans; brother, Glen Rice; grandchildren, Allana Rice-Burke, Jonathan Bryan Rice, Nancy Katherine Rice and William Nelson Rice and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Lanny Cobb and Rev. Bennie Durham officiating.
Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Military Rites conducted by a detachment from the United States Marine Corps.
The family will receive friends form 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Lucille Johnston Lynn
September 25, 1918 - December 21, 2004
Gainesville, GA - Elizabeth Lucille Johnston Lynn, 86, of 5024 Farmbrook Lane, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at her residence.
A native and resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a member of Emma United Methodist Church. She had resided in Gainesville since March of 2002
Mrs. Lynn was the daughter of the late Horace Samuel Johnston, Sr. and Lula Mae Aldridge Johnston, and the wife of Charles Wendell Lynn, who died
in March of 1981. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Steven Lynn.
Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Wendell Lynn and wife, Jeanie of Sealy, TX; daughters: Wanda Lynn Hudson of Gainesville and Beverly Lynn Drobina and husband, Don of Gainesville;10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great, great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Jimmy Dykes officiating.

Katharine Maria "Marie" Roland
May 19, 1923 - December 24, 2004
Asheville - Katharine Marie Roland, 81, of Raleigh Road died
Friday December 24, 2004 at Emerald Ridge Health Care Center.
A native of Yancey County, she had resided in Buncombe County since 1940. She retired in 1972 as a meteorological technician from the Air Weather Service. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church where she was a member of the Homemakers Sunday School Class. Ms. Roland was also a member of the Leicester Garden Club. She was a former member of the Rhododendron Club and the American Business Women’s Association. She was a 1940 graduate of Bald Creek High School.
Ms. Roland was a daughter of the late Hobart McKinley and Nora Anglin Roland. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Floy Belle Wright and a brother, Warren Roland.
Surviving are her sisters, Virginia McCorkle of Charlotte, June Williams and Shirley Brown both of Leicester; brother, J.M. Roland of Whiteville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. James Ian Walker officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Edna Rice Riddle
August 24, 1921 - December 24, 2004
Cumberland, VA - Edna Rice Riddle, 83, of 303 Putney Rd., formerly of Asheville died
Friday, December 24, 2004 at the Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. following a period of declining health.
A native of Laurens County, S.C. she had resided in Asheville for most of her life and had resided in Virginia for the past 4 years.
She was a daughter of the late John Arc Rice and Priscilla Raines Rice and wife of the late Earl Columbus Riddle. She was also preceded in death by her son, William Thomas “Tommy” Riddle who died
June 6, 1998.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Jean Riddle of Sterling, VA; sons, Bobby L. Riddle with whom she made her home, Charles E. Riddle of Gainesville, VA, David H. Riddle and Kenneth E. Riddle both of Lynchburg, VA, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
