Asheville - Daniel E. Freeman, 81, formerly of 121 Hudson Street, died
Thursday February 21, 2002.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County before recently moving to P.O. Box 714, Landrum, SC, 29356. He was a civil servant for the Air Weather Service, member of Grace Baptist Church, ordained deacon, past Master of West Asheville Masonic Lodge #665, WW II Air Force Veteran, member of VFW Post 3040 and an avid golfer having achieved two hole- in- one’s.
He was the son of the late William and Sally Goforth Freeman and husband of the late Mildred Aiken Freeman.
Surviving are his daughter, Danette Freeman Taylor and husband, Joe of Landrum, SC; grandson, J. Richard Taylor of Asheville and grandsons, Tripp and John Taylor of Shiloh, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Culpepper and Mr. Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka.
His family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dollie Rice Chambers
July 4, 1913 - February 26, 2002
Weaverville - Dollie Rice Chambers, 88, died
Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the Brian Center, Weaverville.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late John Ark and Sallie Raines Rice and was the wife of the late Rev. Fred Eugene Chambers who died
in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Jean Swanger who died
February 24, 2002, her sisters, Essie Louise Mathis and Margaret Parham, and her brother, William “Bill” Rice.
Surviving are her 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren, and her sister, Edna Riddle of Fairfax, VA.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery
with the Rev. Daniel Stephenson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Myrtle Lamons Banks
July 12, 1920 - February 24, 2002
Asheville - Myrtle Mina Lamons Banks, 81, of Asheville died
Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She had resided in Asheville for most of her life where she was a homemaker and formerly served in the Womens Army Corps of the U.S. Army .
Mrs. Banks was the daughter of the late Alfred Roy and Mina Jane Hart Lamons and the wife of Parks Quillan Banks who died
in February of 1981.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen Banks Embler of Asheville; grandsons, Jody Fredrick Embler and Jeremy Parks Embler both of Asheville.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. with the Rev. Dorri Sherrill officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.

Clarence W. Robbins
July 15, 1911 - February 23, 2002
Asheville - Clarence Wilborn Robbins, 90, of 58 Mt. Carmel Drive, died
Saturday February 23, 2002 at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center.
A native of Lenoir, NC, he had resided in Charlotte for 48 years prior to moving to Asheville in 1998 to make his home with his son and daughter in law. He was a retired self-employed cabinet maker, a member of Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Charlotte and a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the South Pacific.
He was the son of the late Rufus Lafayette and Holly Campbell Robbins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Edna Sanders Robbins; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Freeland; grandson, Martin Robbins and granddaughter, Teresa Robbins.
Surviving are his daughter, Jeannie Mae Robbins of Charlotte; sons, Larry Wilborn Robbins of Midland, NC and David Alan Robbins, with whom he made his home of Asheville; 5 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sharon Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Charlotte with Pastor Ted Huskins officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte.
His family will receive friends from 1 to 2 Monday at the church.
Betty Jean Chambers Swanger
March 13, 1931 - February 24, 2002
Asheville - Betty Jean Chambers Swanger, 70, of 628 Emma Rd. died
Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek following a period of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of Dollie Rice Chambers of Weaverville and the late Rev. Fred Eugene Chambers and was the wife of the late Burnace Vernon Swanger who died
in 1991.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her children, Walter E. Swanger and wife Judy C. of Asheville, Susan Stewart of Marrietta, GA, Carol Payne and husband Larry of Candler, Mike Swanger and wife Glenda of Marietta GA, and Steven Swanger of Asheville; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Helen Parker Parris
April 5, 1914 - February 18, 2002
Bent Creek - Helen Parker Parris age 83 of Bent Creek, died
at Aston Park Health Care Center Monday February 18, 2002.
She was the widow of Grady L. Parris and the daughter of the late Lonas and Minnie Parker. She was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church and formerly employed by the American Enka Corp.
Surviving are her son Robert “Bob” L. Parris and wife Martha Penland Parris of Greenville, S.C.; granddaughters, Donna Parris Shores and Shelia Parris Stewart; grandsons, Bruce G. Parris and Robert “Robbie” L. Parris, Jr.; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Penley officiating. Burial will be in the Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
