Leicester - Tommy Dean Rogers, 48, of 561 Mink Farm Road, died
Sunday April 7, 2002 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
A life long resident of Buncombe County, he was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was a son of Grace B. Rogers of Leicester and the late Albert R. Rogers.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Pasty Caldwell Rogers of the home; daughter, Patty Surrett and husband, Donnie of Leicester; brothers, Roy L. Rogers and wife, Pam of Asheville and David Earl Rogers of Leicester; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Revs. David King and Gerald Clark officiating. Burial will be at Rogers Family Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times will be at his mothers residence, 510 Mink Farm Road.
James Hobert Hughes Jr.
February 19, 1945 - April 20, 2002
Asheville - James Hobert Hughes, Jr., 57, of 77 Hazelwood Street, went to be with the Lord, Saturday April 20, 2002 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was an U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Woodland Terrace Baptist Church. He was a son of Rose Mary Bridges of Asheville.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Karen Chandler Hughes of the home; daughters, Stephanie Hughes, Jamie Thomas and husband Mark of Asheville and Autumn Hughes of the home; grandchildren, Emerald Skye Southerland and Devin James Thomas; brothers, Frankie Hughes and David Hughes both of Asheville; sisters, Ida Mae McMahan, Linda Coleman, Carolyn Hudson and Leila Penley all of Asheville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Vince Keith officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery
with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
His family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Wilda Ann Hawkins
June 2, 1927 - April 18, 2002
Hendersonville - Wilda Ann Rindeneck Hawkins, 74, of 120 Star Point Drive died
Thursday April 18, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A native of Corson County, South Dakota. She had most of her life in West Allis, Wisconsin before moving to Buncombe County in 1985.
She was a daughter of the late Harris and Emma Brumbaugh Rindeneck and wife of the late Claud Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister.
Surviving are her daughter, Kay Hawkins of Hendersonville; son, Richard Hawkins and wife, Judy of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; grandsons, Richard and Randy Hawkins; 5 sisters, 3 brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and entombment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Rev. Harry Bowers officiating.

Steve William Guy
November 25, 1957 - April 23, 2002
Asheville - Steve William Guy, 44 of 165 Oakview Drive, died
suddenly Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at his home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe county, he was a block mason and formerly attended White Rock Baptist Church. He was a 1976 graduate of Enka High School, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and coached little league and basketball at Hominy Valley. He was a son of Joretta Crowder Guy of Candler and the late William Othell Guy.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his former wife, Susan Howell Guy of Fletcher; son, Stephen Brandon Guy of Fletcher; brother, Perry Guy of Candler and several uncles and aunts.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Metcalf officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery
with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
Krystal Michele Matthews
August 20, 1985 - November 7, 2002
Asheville - Krystal Michele Matthews, 17, of 322 Old Farm School Road went to be with the Lord at her home Thursday, November 7, 2002 due to Mitochondria Disorder.
A native of Henderson County. She had resided in Buncombe County for the past 13 years.
Krystal was a 2002 graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School and a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church where member of the Youth Group.
Surviving are her parents, Cookie Livingston Metcalf and Doug Metcalf of the home; father, Douglas Paul Matthews of Hendersonville; sister, Martha Swinea of Durham; brothers, Jason Matthews of Hendersonville, Kenneth Matthews of Dobson, Joe Metcalf and David Metcalf both of Bakersville; maternal grandmother, Martha Livingston of Fletcher; paternal grandmothers, Eula Mae Ammons of Asheville and Willie Sue Shaner of Arizona; many special friends including her best friend, Michelle Gumbert of Asheville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev’s Ricky Townsend and Philip Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Eloise Austin Nelon
September 5, 1929 - November 11, 2002
Asheville - Eloise Austin Nelon, 73, of 20-B Short Michigan Avenue died
Monday, November 11, 2002.
A native of Abilene, Texas. Mrs. Nelon had resided in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a homemaker, daughter of the late Elzie T. Austin and Mamie Katherine Aldredge Austin and wife of the late James Lane Nelon.
Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Swilling of Belevedere, S.C., Millie Katherine King of Leicester, Sandra Dee Edwards of Weaverville and Emily Sue Prater of Saltville, Virginia; son, Anthony “Tony” Penland of Asheville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends following her services at funeral home.
