Marie Kuykendall Moody

Asheville - Marie Kuykendall Moody, 82, of 211 Edgewood Rd. died
Monday, December 2, 2002 at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center.
A native of Forsyth County, she had lived in Buncombe County for most of her life.
She was the daughter of the late Phillip Mingus and Jevia Mae Burnette Kuykendall and she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Earl and Claude Kuykendall, sister, Myrtle Guy Davis, and nephew, Richard Davis.
Surviving are son, David Daniel Baker of Asheville; granddaughters, Amy Lynn Baker and Amanda Lea Baker both of Asheville; brother, Albert Kuykendall of Candler; 15 nieces and nephews, a number of great nieces and nephews and a number of great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday in the Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in Piney Mtn. United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
James Robert "Bud" Blackwell
March 21, 1936 - December 1, 2002
Asheville - James Robert “Bud” Blackwell, 66, of 162 Hazel Mill Road died
Sunday, December 1, 2002 at his home following a period of declining health.
A native of Brevard, he had resided in Buncombe County most of life, was a Retired Truck Driver and attended Open Door Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Blackwell was the son of the late James Edward Blackwell and Hattie Mae Teague Blackwell and also was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Mae Blackwell.
Surviving are his companion of 38 years, Bertha Eloise Frady Blackwell; sisters, Aileen Stanley, Shirley Blackwell, Betty Jean Helton and Myrtle Lee Blackwell all of Asheville; 12 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melton officiating.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Albert "Al" Wilson Jr.
December 21, 1941 - October 8, 2003
Swannanoa - Albert “Al” Wilson, Jr., 61, of 110 Pine Tree Drive, died
Wednesday October 8, 2003 at his residence.
A native of Yancey County, he had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. He was General Manager for Azalea Management and Leasing Corporation and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran, a graduate of Lee Edwards High School and loved the outdoors and fishing.
He was the son of the late Albert Wilson, Sr. and Pearl Allen Cale.
Surviving are his wife, Pat Briggs Wilson of the home; son, Jason Wilson and wife, Jennifer of Swannanoa; sister Betty McClain of Matthews, NC and 2 nieces.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Lynda Briggs and Jack Hughes officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence.

Debra Reese Smith
February 7, 1961 - October 7, 2003
Asheville - Debra Yvonne “Deb” Reese Smith, 42, died
Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph’s Health System after an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of State Street Church of God and was employed by Medical Business Resources as a Medical Coder and Licensed Medical Lab Technician.
Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Ray Dean and Carolyn Robinson Reese of Asheville. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Rev. Herbert and Nellie Reese, maternal grandparents, Edward M. and Dorothy Robinson, aunt, Shirley Hall, and cousin, Karen B. Harris.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Mark Alan Smith of the home; daughter, Rachael Karen Cole of the home; son, Zachary David Cole of the home; sister, Kelly Kathryn Reese of Asheville; brother, Brandon Scott Reese and wife Shannon of Arden; nieces, Kristen and Samantha; aunts, Wilma Jean Reagan, Corena Pearson and husband W.D., Loretta Pittillo and husband Clyde; uncle, Edward M. Robinson and wife Rhonda; several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday at State Street Church of God with the Revs. Aaron Phillips, Bruce Bartlett, and Bruce Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Ray and Carolyn Reese, 89 West Oakview Rd., Asheville.
Elizabeth Franklin Ponton Bizzarro
March 10, 1936 - December 12, 2004
Asheville - Elizabeth Ayres Hope Franklin Bizzarro, 67, died
Monday December 12, 2004 after an extended illness.
A native of New York City, she had lived in Asheville for the past 16 years. She held Masters Degrees in Literature and Social Work. She was the daughter of the late C. R. Franklin, M.D. and Winifred Hope Franklin, M.D. and the wife of the late Frank Bizzarro. She was also preceded in death by a son, Franklin Ponton.
Surviving are her son, Lance D. Ponton and wife Caroline of Waynesville; brother, Clyde R. Franklin, Jr. and wife Sharlene of Asheville; grandsons, Wesley and Jared Ponton of Waynesville and nephew, David R. Franklin.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Pounds and her son Lance D. Ponton officiating.
The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.

Robert L. Cantrell
May 16, 1926 - December 8, 2004
Asheville - Robert L. Cantrell, 78, formerly of 2 Morris Place, died
Wednesday December 8, 2004 at Beverly Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
A native of Transylvania County, he lived in Buncombe County most of his life. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a former member of the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. He was a son of the late Claude C. and Annie Garren Cantrell. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Hunt and Billy Cantrell and sisters, Virginia Brown, Margaret Bell, Allie Mae Riddle and Martha C. Stroupe.
Surviving are his sister, Tillie Bullis of St. Cloud, Fl., several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Friday in the Chapel of the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery
in Black Mountain with the Revs. Jim Stroupe and C.W. Anthony officiating. Veterans rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. Burial will follow in the cemetery.
