Robert Akridge
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mr. Robert Lee Akridge, 88, of 615, 104th St., died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at State University Health Center in Brooklyn.
A native of Appalacia, Ga., he was the son of the late Washington and Callie Whaley Akridge. He was a retired longshoreman and a former member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Mae McCurry Akridge; his second wife, Juanita Akridge; two sons, Jerry and Eugene Akridge; four brothers, William Akridge, Dock Akridge, Walter Akridge and John Richard Akridge; and two sisters, Molly Simms and Annie Crosby.
He is survived by one son, Linbergh Borders of Shelby; two sisters, Brenda McNeil of Dayton, Ohio, and Earleen Akridge of Shelby; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ryburn Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Phillip W. Dunford and Dr. S.A. Raper officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church, and at other times at the home of Earleen Akridge, 802 Frederick St., Shelby.

Elizabeth Philbeck
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Elizabeth Mull Philbeck, 80, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital.
A native of Shelby, she was born September 18, 1918, the daughter of the late Walter Fred and Hattie Bell Newton Mull. She was a member of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church.
She is survived by one brother, Bobby Mull of Charlotte; one sister, Martha Aycock of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, with the Rev. Franklin Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Marie Guyton
GRANITE FALLS - Mrs. Marie R. Guyton, 90, formerly of 511 Carolina Ave., Shelby, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on November 11, 1908, the daughter of the late Vince and Bessie McCombs Rippey. She was a member of the Shelby Negro Women's Club and a member of Wardell Chapel Church, where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by a special friend, Patricia B. Harris of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Mobley's Chapel with the Rev. Luke Curry Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Faye Phillips
SHELBY - Mrs. Faye Elizabeth Ross Phillips, 89, of 600 LeGrand St., died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Dick and Minnie Ledford Bell. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Maurice Ross; her second husband, Gladys Phillips; and two brothers, Alvin Bell and Edmund Bell.
She is survived by four daughters, Lucille S. Hayes, Mable R. Beatty, Edna B. Coble and Pauline G. Breidinger; one stepdaughter, Virginia Rice; two sisters, Pinky R. Blanton and Edna Styles; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Chapel with the Rev. Wray G. Barrett officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Feb. 2, 1943, the son of the late Gladys and Savannah Camp Phillips. He was employed by Needmore No. 3 Store and a member of Hudson Memorial Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kelly Phillips; one sister, Raye Ferree; and one brother, Bill Phillips.
He is survived by one daughter, Greta Phillips of Shelby; two brothers, Steve Phillips of Shelby and Jack Phillips of Monroe; five sisters, Martha Lail of Forest City, Louise Roberts and Frances Swink, both of Boiling Springs, Marie Callahan of Charlotte and Mary Ruth Goins of Aiken, S.C.; and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Thomas "T.C." Brackett Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. Thomas "T.C." Clayton Brackett Jr., 77, of 712 Hampton St., died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Sr. and Johnnie Missouri Buff Brackett. He worked in the card room at Dover Textiles. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Swainsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Stanley Brackett; one sister, Aileen Cleary; and two brothers, Nick Brackett and Gurden Jones.
He is survived by three sons, Johnny Clayton Brackett of Gaffney, S.C., Jerry Brackett of Fresno, Calif. and David Brackett of Bakersville, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Brackett Young of Shelby and Dianne Gordon of Fresno; two brothers, L.V. Brackett of Shelby and Muriel "Red" Brackett of Cherryville; two sisters, Mary Jones and Eunice Anthony, both of Boiling Springs; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

McMillan "Milli" Ferguson
MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - McMillan Lee "Milli" Ferguson, infant daughter of David and Kristi Ferguson, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Lakeway Regional Women's Pavilion.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Katelyn of the home; grandparents, Lawson and Karen Jaquith of Dalton, Ga. and Larry and Linda Ferguson of Shelby; great-grandparents, Mrs. Freeman Broderick and Mrs. Kathleen Jaquith, both of Dalton, and Mr. and Mrs. Burnis Howard of Gadston, Ala.; aunts and uncles, Forest and Jessica Jaquith of Dalton, Matt Ferguson and Sarah Ferguson, both of Chapel Hill; and several great aunts and uncles.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Jarnagin Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating.

She is survived by her step-mother, Frances T. Thrift of Shelby; three daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Mae Camp and Vernie Miller and Sheila Diane Camp and Stan Oberlin, both of Eaton Rapids, Mich., and Patricia Williams and Ken Holmes of Brooking, Ore.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Tyson Camp Jr. of Eaton Rapids and Henry Carroll Jr. and Linda Williams of Praireville, La.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Charline and J.D. Lovelace of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Betty Jane and Charles W. Rudicil of New Port Richy, Fla. and Mary Louella and Pressley Wilson Sr. of Shelby; two half-sisters and their husbands, Norma and Danny Martin of Shelby and Vickie and Richard Pruitt of Kings Mountain; one half-brother and his wife, Steve and Vickie Thrift of Eden; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Sara Eisenman
ROCKY MOUNT - Mrs. Sara Carter Eisenman, 89, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
Formerly of Jacksonville, she was the manager of Renn's Toyville, and later the manager of Glamour Shop, both located in the The New River Shopping Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip R. Eisenman Sr.
She is survived by one son, Phillip Robert "Bob" Eisenman of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Jacksonville City Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Charles William Self, 75, of 1032 Fallston Road, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Erastus and Elizabeth Grindstaff Self. He worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation as a district engineer. He was a member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran who served in World War II and earned the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Melton Self.
He is survived by one step-daughter, Sue Butler of Forest City; one sister, Corine Willis of Black Mountain; one brother, Harold Self of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Admirial Dewey and Ula Crain Cochran. She worked for Howell Manufacturing and Sweetree Company, both of Cherryville. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville. She graduated from Waco High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Lloyd Pruett; two brothers, Lester Cochran and Roy Cochran; and one grandson, Allan Pruett.
She is survived by one son, David C. Pruitt of Cherryville; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Paul and Laura Cochran of Roanoke, Va., Lemuel and Maxine Cochran and Betty Cochran, all of Shelby, Max and Reba Cochran of Grover; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Runell and Ernest Etters of Grover and Shirley and Amel Owens of Tampa, Fla.; one granddaughter, Sandra K. Pruett of Cherryville; and three great-grandchildren, Dennis Allen Pruett, Jordan Lee Pruett and Justin Tyler Pruett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Price.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles "Buddy" and Catherine Price of Shelby; two daughters, Gail Gowen of Lattimore and Brenda Robbins of Charlotte; four sisters, Pauline Lewis of Lake Wiley, S.C., Louise Burgin and Barbara Smart, both of Forest City and Thelma Whitesides of Rutherfordton; three brothers, Edwin "Butch" Camby of Hartsville, Mo., Charles Camby and Paul Camby, both of Rutherfordton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lois Pass
ORLANDO, Fla. - Mrs. Lois Briggs Pass, 86, of 4748 Sudbury St., formerly of 308 Wilson St., Shelby, died Sunday, July 4, 1999 in Orlando.
A native of Clinton, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sallie Jones Briggs. She was retired from the Cleveland County School System, where she was a teacher for 40 years. She was a member of Durham United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Women's Chancel Choir. She was a Salvation Army volunteer, and a member of the National Education Association, the Bridgettes and an original member of the Heaven Bound Pageant. She was a Winston-Salem State Alumnus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Pass Sr.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ted Jr. and Donna Pass of Santa Monica, Calif.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Pass and John Fowler of Orlando and Janet Brown of Shelby; one brother, John Briggs of Forest City; two sisters, Nancy Ryce of Spindale and Mae Anderson of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Durham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William David and Bessie Griffin Hardin. She was retired from Kings Mountain District Schools. She taught at Dixon Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lafayette "Fate" Alexander Arrowood; three brothers, B.H. Hardin, John T. Hardin and Eugene Hardin; two sisters, Lennis Gunnells and Harriet Kee; and one daughter, Tillie Arrowood.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lana and Jerry Ramsey and Buetta "Jay" and Tommy Barnette, both of Kings Mountain; one brother; Joe Hardin of Shelby; three sisters, Doris Moore of Blacksburg, S.C., Violet Spake of Shelby and Selma Acquistapace of Hollister, Calif.; three grandchildren and two spouses, Jeffrey Arrowood of Kings Mountain, Merinda and Odell Grant Jr. of Bessemer City and Donna and Michael Schronce of Grover; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan White and Trevor Schronce.
