Gladys Hamrick
GASTONIA - Mrs. Gladys Frazier Hamrick, 90, of Courtland Terrace, formerly of the Beaver Dam Community in Shelby, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Courtland Terrace.
A native of Mecklenburg County, she was born the daughter of the late William T. and Cora Severs Frazier. She was a floral designer in the shop she and her husband owned. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S.C. Hamrick.
She is survived by one son, Carleton Hamrick Jr. of Mint Hill; two daughters, Elaine Aaron of Gastonia and Carole Johnson of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; Carleton Hamrick III and Casey Hamrick, both of Mint Hill, Mark Aaron and Emily Aaron, both of Gastonia, Kevin Johnson, Keith Johnson and Lisa Calhoun, all of Charlotte; and three great-grandchildren, Tiffanie Calhoun, Joshua Calhoun and Jeremy Calhoun, all of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Rev. Kenneth Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

LAWNDALE - David Alexander Walker, infant son of David Raymond and Tonya Kay Scism Walker of 918 Oak Grove-Clover Hill Church Road, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents Raymond and Rosetta Walker of Lawndale, maternal grandparents Michael and Patsy Okuszki of Lawndale, great-grandparents Addie and Raeford Wright of Lawndale, and Henry and Char Okuszki of Utica, N.Y., and great-grandmother Evelyn Okuszki of Hilton Head, S.C.
The funeral was Saturday at Casar Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Mauney officiating. Burial will follow at Casar Baptist Church Cemetery.

J.B. Whitworth
KINGSTOWN - Mr. J.B. Whitworth, 80, of 1814 Kingstown Road, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Miles and Alice Ellison Whitworth. He was retired from Hickory Springs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Ovedia Spikes Whitworth; four sons and four daughters-in-law, Jerry and Allison Whitworth of Kingstown, Forrest and Louise Whitworth of Shelby, Robert and Marie Whitworth of Newton, and Larry and Terry Whitworth of Cherryville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rachel Whitworth of Kingstown, and Juanita and Joe Surratt of Lawndale; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawn.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Annie Greene
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Annie Laura Hodge Greene, 80, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of Jonas and Mamie Gibbs Hodge. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Polk County. She was also a homemaker.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ledger Greene.
She is survived by two daughters, Christine Greene Crain and Betty Greene Taylor, both of Rutherfordton; one sister, Irene Bridge of Rutherfordton; two brothers, Bill Hodge of Union Mills and Rupert Hodge of Rutherfordton; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Rollins and Dean Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Bertie Cook Greene, 85, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Cleveland County, she was retired from Bernhardt Furniture Company and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Greene, and her parents, Julius Pinkney and Lettie Lee Ledford Cook.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Pete and JoAnn Greene of Gallatin, Tenn., and Nick and Janis Greene of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Tom Branton of Shelby; two brothers, Bill Cook of Shelby and J.D. Cook of Casar; a sister, Ethel Blackburn of Shelby; five grandchildren, Krista Miller, Brian Branton, Nicole Baynard, Josh Greene and Matthew Greene; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emma Miller.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Fite and Dr. Joseph Reeves officiating. A private burial will follow.

HICKORY - Mrs. Cecile Tucker Caveny, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in Hickory.
A native of Dent County, Mo., she was a retired co-owner of the Hickory Glidden Paint Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond L. and Olivia Stewart Tucker; two brothers, Carl Tucker and Wayman Tucker, and a sister, Arlene Conant.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Caveny, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Bradford of Hickory; two grandchildren, Sarah (Katie) Bradford Treece and husband Curt Treece of Denton, Texas, and Justin (Chip) Bradford of Hickory.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.

Hubert Moorehead
SHELBY - Mr. Hubert Moorehead, 79, of 1509 Charles Road, died Thursday, August 12, 1999 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Buster Morehead and Cush Johnson. He was retired from Ellis Lumber Company. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Morgan Moorehead; a son, Hubert Moorehead Jr., and a sister, Jessie Pearl Terrell.
He is survived by six sisters-in-law, Elizabeth L. Morgan, Geneva M. Elemore, and N. Elizebeth, all of Shelby; Inez H. Morgan and Rose Mae Morgan, both of Charlotte; and Helen Morgan Woods, of the home; a mother-in-law, Ella Kee Morgan of the home; a brother-in-law, Walter Lee Morgan of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Strickland Maddox officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

RUTHERFORDTON - Miss Mattie Lee Campbell, 88, of Oak Grove Health Care Center, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Oak Grove Health Care Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Romey and Blanche Canipe Campbell. She was a retired teacher from Sunshine Elementary School. She was a member of Polkville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lula Mooney.
She is survived by one sister, Doris Hawkins.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. James Lee Morgan, 63, of 2088 Adair Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on September 13, 1935, the son of the late Beulow and Bessie Smith Morgan. He worked at Esther Mill until it closed. He drove a truck for Plastic Oddities until retiring in 1998. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Williams Morgan; one brother, Fred Morgan; and two sisters, Violet Mullis and Zella Greene.
He is survived by his second wife, Frances Curry Morgan; one daughter, Jane Elizabeth Morgan of Shelby; one brother, J.B. "Whity" Morgan of Shelby; and two sisters, Lois Shytle and Theda Bost, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Wesleyan Church of Shelby with the Rev. Tommy Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
