J.D. Turner Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. J.D. Turner Sr., 87, of 1856 S. Lafayette St., died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Claude and Minnie Hovis Turner. He was a retired textile worker and a cattle dealer. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Russ Turner.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J.D. Jr. and Mary Jo Turner of Shelby; a sister, Eva Langston of Silsbee, Texas; two granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Viola and Charles Williamson, Amelia and John Hamrick; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law Jerry and Lisa Turner; and two great-grandsons, Dwayne Turner and Cotie Turner.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Marvin Gobble and the Rev. Jake Gales officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Zoar Baptist Church, building fund, 1740 S. Lafayette St., Shelby, N.C. 28152 or to Hospice of Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

"Wade" Cochran
GROVER - Mr. William Calloway "Wade" Cochran, 73, of 220 Beef St., died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Harrison and Nancy Higdan Cochran. He worked in textiles as a loom operator and was a Baptist and he preached at Pine Street Baptist Church in Gastonia. He was in the Army serving in the Pacific Theater as an instructor, cook and baker.
He is survived by two sons, Johnny Cochran and Jimmy Cochran, both of Gastonia; two daughters, April C. Wilson of the home and Thelma Jean Phillips of Gastonia; a sister, Willie Belle Goforth of Gastonia; three grandchildren, April Michele Nanny of Gastonia, "J.R." Cochran and Derek Wilson, both of Grover; two great-grandchildren, Christina Danielle Nanny and Stephanie Cheyanne Nanny, both of Gastonia.
A private funeral will be held.
Lutz-Austell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Debra Crain
SPINDALE - Mrs. Debra Diane McCraw Crain, 44, of 315 Ellington St., died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Sharp Chuila Vista Medical Center.
A native of Morganton, born on Feb. 15, 1956, she was the daughter of Zola and Elijah Guffey of Spindale and Earl McCraw of Rutherfordton. She worked at BB&T in Forest City.
She is survived by her husband, Sammy Crain of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Crain of the home; a son, Adam Crain of the home; and two brothers, Mike Guffey of Ellenboro and Mitch Guffey of Lattimore.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Crain officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday at 6 p.m. at Crowe Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

Robert Lowery Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Robert Mike Lowery Sr., 76, of 416 Franklin Ave., died Monday, May 29, 2000, at his home.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Hugh and Delia Camp Lowery. During World War II, he served in the Army and received the Purple Heart. He retired as a police officer for the city of Shelby and was a retired member of the N.C. Peace Officers Association. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of Westview Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Cavalier; a brother, William Lowery; and a sister, Ella Lowery Drewery.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Reinhardt Lowery of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Mike Jr. and Vicki Lowery of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Stan Gainey of Gastonia and Cindy Lowery of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, Hugh Lowery of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Willie Sue and Reuben McSwain Jr. of Belmont; three granddaughters, Amy Lowery Bridges, Andrian Baker and Dawn Watts; three great-grandsons, Steven Johnson, Bobby Watts and Colin Watts; a great-granddaughter, Brandi Johnson; nieces, Connie Martin and Emerald Martin; and a nephew, Jacob Martin.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Jim Brackett and Todd Bolin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home, and other times at the home.

Minnie Anthony
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Minnie Belle Crawford Biggerstaff Anthony, 80, of Kings Mountain, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Madison, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Fred Aderholt and Vannah Belle Young Crawford. She retired from J.P. Stevens Co. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, where she sang with the Keenage Choir, and is a former member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George Wilson Biggerstaff Sr. and Stanhop Howard Anthony; three brothers, W. C. Crawford, Euell Crawford and Foster Crawford; and two sisters, Virginia Williams and Ruth Byram.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George Wilson and Mary Ann Biggerstaff Jr. of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalind and Doyle Black of Kings Mountain and Cathy and Michael Crisp of Gastonia; a brother, Henry Crawford of Shelby; three sisters, Christine Smith and Kitty Minnix of Shelby and Janet Isrel of Miami, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Revs. Jeff Brendle and Michael Minnix officiating.
The family received friends Monday from 6:30 to 8 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home and other times at the home of George W. Biggerstaff, 619 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain.

RUTHERFORDTON - Ms. Marjorie Long, 80, of White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at her home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Paul G. Cannon Jr.
SENECA, S.C. - Mr. Paul Gibson Cannon Jr., 62, of 170 Harbin Road, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Oconee Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kennedy Mortuary Chapel in Laurens, S.C., with the Rev. J.B. Abercrombie officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the home of Hugh McKittrick, 112 David St., Laurens.

Inez Dickey
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Inez Jackson Dickey, 88, formerly of 207 S. Shelby St., died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney, S.C.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, S.C., with the Revs. Steve Dickey and Ken Reid officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
White Columns Funeral Service of Blacksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Blaine Humphries
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Haskell Blaine Humphries, 66, of 331 Young Grove Road, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel in Gaffney, S.C., with the Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Melvin Huntsinger
FOREST CITY - Mr. Melvin Huntsinger, 66, of 109 Brewer Court, Dallas, formerly of Forest City, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Padgett & King Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

H.Y. Belk
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Henry Young "H.Y." Belk, 76, of 909 N. Ramseur St., died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Revs. Dale Thornburg and Eugene Land officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Alvin Freeman
SHELBY - Mr. Alvin June "Hollywood" Freeman, 43, of 1526 Eaves Road, Apt. F-2, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 23, 1956, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late A.P. Bostic and Geneva Freeman. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Freeman, Brenda Thompson and Mary Ruth Freeman.
He is survived by two sons, Alvin June Archie and Bryon Lamont Freeman; three sisters, Earnestene Hamrick, Pauline Wilson and Eloise Freeman, all of Shelby; a brother, Robert Lee Freeman of Shelby; an aunt, Cora M. Mitchell; an uncle, James Freeman; a grandchild, MaKayla Freeman of Shelby; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Floyd Maddox officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Bostic.
The family will receive friends at the home of Robert Freeman, 2032 Green Oak Drive, Shelby.
Genesis Funeral Services & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Chris Crump
BOSTIC - Mr. Christopher Dean "Chris" Crump, 27, of 191 Oak Grove Church Road, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Judy Lovelace Crump of Shelby and the late Louis Dale Crump. He was employed as a machine operator at Atlantic Spinners and attended T.W. Lovelace Memorial Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jill-Ann Nicome Crump; a daughter, Aden Crump of Bostic; a brother, Keith Crump of Shelby; two sisters, Della Crump and Crystal Crump, both of Shelby; a former wife, Jamie Crump of Bostic; a mother-in-law, Rachel Cruse of Bostic; a special friend, David Jackson of Shelby; and a niece, Taylor Walker of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at T.W. Lovelace Memorial Church with the Revs. Scott Caldwell and Justin Reed officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, 155 Ridgewood St., Shelby.

GASTONIA - Mr. Leroy Thomas, 64, of Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Harry McKeithan, 87, of 209 East High Road, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Fairhaven Nursing Home.

Wilda Leatherwood
SHELBY - Mrs. Wilda Rosetta Jackson Leatherwood, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at her home.
A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late A.L. and Lula Belle Jackson of Canton. She was a retired employee of Champion Papers Credit Union, and a mother, grandmother and sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Leatherwood Jr.; her brother, Jack R. Jackson; and a sister, Ruth Jackson Smathers.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Dotty Lanning Leatherwood; two grandsons, Jeffrey Thomas and Jeremy Grant Leatherwood; and a sister, Doris Jackson Turner.
The funeral will be held today at 4 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery in Clyde.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

FOREST CITY - Ms. Mary E. "Babe" Wood Jones, 79, of 275 Hardin Road, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at her home.

Leonard Morton
SHELBY - Mr. Leonard Christian Morton, 98, of 1323 Claremont Drive, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at his home.
A native of Big Lick, he was the son of the late Levi and Nancy Hinson Morton. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Shelby.
He is survived by a niece, Sue English of Shelby and a nephew, Van Morton of Belwood.
A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Revs. Adam Bivins, Clarence Williams and Tommy Buchanan officiating.
The family will be at the home, 1323 Claremont Drive.
Memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, 1542 Kings Road, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Jonnie Bridges
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Jonnie Ray Bridges, 70, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Pink and Annie Weaver Bridges. She was a homemaker, a member of the DAR and an alumna of Mars Hill College. She was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bridges and a brother, Sonny Edward Bridges.
She is survived by her husband, Jasper Bridges; two sons, Kenneth Bridges of Charlotte and Michael Bridges of Concord; a daughter, Rebecca France of Gate City, Va.; four sisters, Louise Bridges of Shelby, Ruth Rogers of Rutherfordton, Marilyn Craig of Hickory, and Joyce Garner of Easley, S.C.; a brother, Scott Bridges of Boiling Springs; five grandchildren, Nicole Bridges, Clint Bridges, and Jacob Bridges, and Tanner France and Hunter France.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service with the Rev. Stan Heiser officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
