Robena Baldwin
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Robena Hamrick Baldwin, 76, of 119 Baldwin St., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Arbuth and Thelma Austin Hamrick. She was retired from Fibert Industries, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she was the founder of the Bethel Baptist Church Extention Department. She was a former member of the Ellenboro town council.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Durwood Hamrick and Vitto Hamrick.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clyde Baldwin; one brother, Reece Hamrick of Ellenboro; two sisters, Hilda Hamrick Whisnant of Ellenboro and Jelma Hamrick of Shelby; a great-niece Samantha Lee Whisnant; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Blackwood and the Rev. Ed Lee officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

EATON RAPIDS, Mich. - Mrs. Mary Lee Camp, 70, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Lansing Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Todd Bolin and Keith Dixon officiating.
The body will be placed in the chapel 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Mr. Thomas N. Cook, 65, of Tucson, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cook; his mother, Cathy Lou Cook; four children, Michael Robert Cook, Paula Jan Cook, Maria Kathleen Carmichael and Eileen Denise Smith; two grandchildren, Taylor Smith and Kathlynn Smith; four brothers, Jim Cook, Boyd Cook, Dean Cook and Jack Cook; and a sister, Jean Cody.
A memorial service will be Saturday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Stardance Center in Tucson.

SHELBY - Mrs. Loretta Whisnant, 52, of 1809 Petty Road, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at the Cardinal Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Lincolnton.
She is survived by her mother, Lula C. Whisnant of Shelby; a daughter, Bonita S. Whisnant of Shelby; seven brothers, Clearence Whisnant, James Whisnant and Arthur J. Whisnant of Shelby, Raymond Whisnant of Polkville, Ray June Whisnant of Cherryville, and Robert Whisnant and J.C. Whisnant of Cincinnati; a sister, Carolyn Huff of Shelby; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Brooks Chapel United Methodist Church in Polkville with Dr. T.A. Powell officiating.
Burial will follow at the Wheat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Polk County.

SHELBY - Mrs. Ruth Mode Brooks, of 801 Cherryville Road, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Spake. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she was a registered Brownie Scout Leader. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Dan E. Brooks of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nell Brooks and Rick Shrum of Shelby and Gail Brooks Davis of Monroe, Ga.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joseph Reeves officiating.

A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late James Lane and Julia Eaker Kiser. She was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church and was the former owner of Harrelson Funeral Home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A.O. "Skipper" Harrelson.
She is survived by three sons, Wiley L. Harrelson of Caroleen, Odell Harrelson of Cloverdale, Ala., and Harry E. Harrelson of Henrietta; a brother, Leon Kiser of Kannapolis; seven granchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Noah "Jack Lovelace" Long
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mr. Noah H. "Jack Lovelace" Long, 72, of 7128 Fairfax Ave., died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Zeb and Essie Lovelace Long. He was reared by the late John and Addie Lovelace. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with a construction company, was a former deacon, and was a Baptist. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Daves Long of the home; two daughters, Myra Hines of Chesnee, S.C. and Gay Greer of Boiling Springs, S.C.; five sisters, Mary Baugham of Newton, Mae Rudisill of Morganton, Ethel Gillespie of Boiling Springs, N.C., Dot Condrey of Ellenboro, and Mary Hawks of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Chris Clavenna of Boiling Springs, S.C., Patrick Evatt of Spartanburg, S.C., and Johnathan Evatt of Baltimore, Md.; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. Stan Parris and Rodney Howard officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Clarence Lee Petty, 66, of 330 Oates Drive, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, born April 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Lesco L. Petty. He worked at Grover Industry in Grover until he retired in 1999.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a sister, Vinetta Mance.
He is survived by his mother, Mary C. Petty of Gastonia; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Lucilla and Floyd E. Williams of Shreveport, La. and Vanessa Petty and Craig Gentry of Winston-Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie L. and Denesia D. Petty of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Larry and LaQuista Washington and LaQuintin and Calundra Gentry; a God child, Cemetrius; three sisters, Pauline Dawkins of Gastonia, Katherine Petty of Winston Salem and Dorena Logan of Gastonia; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester D. Petty of Claremont, Renner and Estelle Petty of Dudley and Roger and Mary Petty of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Elaine Mull, Faye Albernathy; and one uncle, David L. Cornwell; and ther nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at noon at Genesis Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Robert Dover officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thelma Hankins
LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Thelma Cagle Hankins, 95, of 1221 Janice Road, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Brian Center in Lincolnton.
Born October 2, 1904 in Sugar Valley, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Martin Cagle. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Lincolnton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Otis Hammond Hankins; a son, Clinton Sparks; four sisters, Sally Griffin, Cleo Jenkins, Jackie Cooper, Connie Sparks; and a brother, Bickford Cagle.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Bob Kiger of Shelby, and Eloise and Bill Talbert of Lincolnton; a daughter-in-law, Sara Sparks of Merritt Island, Fla.; four granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Kristi Kiger, Deb Kovalycsik, Brenda Sparks Bristol of Spartaburg, S.C., and Sparkle Sparks and Tim Widness of Fort Myers, Fla.; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sherry Wyatt of Mount Holly; three grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 4:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.
