James Lanning
SHELBY - Mr. James Edward Lanning, 71, of 3461 Gin Road, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Clyde and Ruth Moore Lanning. He was self-employed as a painter and was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Deaton Lanning of the home; two sons, Calvin Lanning of Louisiana and Mark Lanning of California; three daughters, Joy Daniel, Debra Conner and Denise Dickerson, all of California; four brothers, Grady Lanning of Pittsboro, Barry Lanning, Doyle Lanning and Earl Dean Lanning, all of Blacksburg, S.C.; three sisters, Berti Dover, Sondra Anderson and Betty Floyd, all of Blacksburg; a nephew, Chad Deaton of Mooresboro; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Don McSwain officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends at the home and at the home of a sister, Berti Dover, 577 Lookout Tower Road, Blacksburg.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Margaret Byrd Baynard, 77, of Rutherfordton, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Bessie Elsie Wright, 97, of 1906 Cherryville Road, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Wesley Care Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John and Candace Smith Yarboro. She was a homemaker and a member of Waco Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gaither A. Wright; a brother, Perzy Yarboro and two sisters, Lillian Yarboro and Lucy Y. Champion.
She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Hutchins of Charlotte; two grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Kermit III and Bonnie Hutchins and Kevin and Melody Hutchins; a granddaughter, Jovi Hutchins; four great-grandchildren, Casey Hutchins, Bailee Hutchins, Andrea Smith and Amanda Smith; and a nephew, J.D. Champion.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Ballew officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Capernaum Cemetery.

Missouri Morgan
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Missouri Jackson Morgan, 92, of 304 W. King St., died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Brian Center in Gastonia.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Ida Blanton Jackson. She attended Johnson C. Smith University and Winston-Salem State University. She was a school teacher for Gaston County for 37 years. She worked for John Chavis and East Elementary in Cherryville before retiring in 1970. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Delois M. Murphy of Kings Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold C. and Alice R. Morgan of Charlotte; a grandson and his wife, Timothy C. and Tina C. Morgan of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Eloise Jackson of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Shatina Morgan and Terri Morgan of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. C.A. Feemster officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Meeting Room No. 9010 in the Holiday Inn on York Road in Kings Mountain.
After the service, the family will meet at the Holiday Inn.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James Ray Dickerson, 75, of 239 Oak Grove Road, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at his home.
A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Ezekial Martin and Clara Sawyer Dickerson. He was a member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church in Dallas. He was a navy veteran who served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lee Pressley Dickerson of the home; a step-mother, Catherine White Dickerson of Bessemer City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Patsy Dickerson of Kings Mountain, David and Debra Dickerson of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Dan Barrett of Carolina Beach; Janice and John Bayless, Shirley Hughes and her fiance, William Fraback, all of Kings Mountain; a brother, Calvin Dickerson of Stanley; three sisters, Clara Hampton and Ruby Burkett, both of Gastonia, Roma Bumgardner of Bessemer City; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church in Dallas with the Revs. Don Tindall and Dean Bridges officiating.
Pallbearers are Kevin Brown, Wayne Dickerson, Ronnie L. Hughes, Bruce Jones, Gerald Smith and Randy Winkler.
The body will be placed at the home, where the family will receive friends.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Bernice Greene of Boiling Springs, and Willene and Norris Snellings of Shelby; three sisters, Frances Walker of Shelby, Esterine Toney of Ellenboro, and Betty Funerburke of Charlotte; four grandchildren and their spouses, Debbie and Mark Walker of Shelby, Scott and Kelly Snellings of Polkville, Sherrie and Doug Ledford of Boiling Springs, and Joy and Jeff Lail of Cherryville; and seven great-grandchildren.
