Raymon Dixon
SHELBY - Mr. William Raymon Dixon, 83, of 910 Wyke Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Linzie and Martha Wright Dixon. He was a retired industrial trouble shooter with Electric Motor Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the D.A.V. and V.F.W. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving aboard LST 284 as coxswain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arson Dixon; and two sisters, Kathleen Dixon and Alma Dixon Kale.
Surviving are his wife, Rachel Heavner Dixon; two sons, William "Bill" R. Dixon Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Cherryville and Charles L. "Chuck" Dixon and his wife, Teresa, of Dallas; a sister, Shirley Williams of Simpsonville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Michael Wray and his wife, Allison, Jeff Whitaker and his wife, Kelly and Jason Whitaker; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy Wray and Amber McGraw.
A graveside service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with Rev. Tony Tench officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Elva Bridgeman
BRYSON CITY - Mrs. Elva Overton Bridgeman, 89, formerly of Henrietta, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Mountain View Manor in Bryson City.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lee Causby Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Linda Benton
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Linda Wilson Benton, 44, 302 Ebenezer Road, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Hospice of Clevlenad County. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Eloise Byers Wilson. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by a son, Landon R. Benton; a sister, Brenda S. Wilson of the home; a grandson, Jaylen I. Whitworth of Hickory; a nephew, Brenton D. Wilson; and a godsister, Bobbie S. Byers of Kings Mountain. The funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Simons officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Missouri Morgan
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Missouri Jackson Morgan, 92, of 304 W. King St., died Monday, June 19, 2000, at Brian Center in Gastonia. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Ida Blanton Jackson. She attended Johnson C. Smith University and Winston-Salem State University. She was a school teacher for Gaston County for 37 years. She worked for John Chavis and East Elementary in Cherryville before retiring in 1970. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Delois M. Murphy of Kings Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold C. and Alice R. Morgan of Charlotte; a grandson and his wife, Timothy C. and Tina C. Morgan of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Eloise Jackson of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Shatina Morgan and Terri Morgan of Charlotte. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. C.A. Feemster officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Meeting Room No. 9010 in the Holiday Inn on York Road in Kings Mountain. Fred Blanton
ELLENBORO - Mr. Fred Henderson Blanton, 68, of 425 Gettys Road, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at his home. Born Augst 29, 1932 in Shelby, he was the son of the late Posey and Tinnie Blanton. He was a general contractor who built his own home. He constructed a fishing pond and was working on completing a campground. He walked the Appalachian Trail. He is survived by his wife, Mary Blanton of Ellenboro; a daughter, Gail Mitchell of Ohio; a son, Mark Blanton of Salisbury; a step-son, Christopher Watson of Daytona, Fla.; three adopted sons, Johnny Register of Sanford, Tommy Register of Apex, and Gregg Register of Asheboro; two brothers, Carl Blanton of Belmont and Jack Blanton of Fallston; a sister, Ruth Barritt of Shelby; and nine granchildren. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the home. The family will receive friends before and after the service at the home. Heritage Funeral Home of Matthews is in charge of arrangements.

Chacy Hester
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Chacy R. Hester, 92, of 340 Cedar Springs Road, formerly of 3924 Johnson Drive, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Mountain View Nursing Home. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Florence Hayes Rabb. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Hester. She is survived by three sisters, Ila Mae Padgett and Minnie Hopper, both of Shelby, and Frances Keeton of Hickory; and four grandchildren. A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Frank Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Diane Horton, 314 Marshall Tucker Road, Pauline, S.C. Eggers Funeral Home, Inc. of Boiling Springs, S.C. is in charge of arrangements.

Walter "Ed" Babb
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Walter Edwin "Ed" Babb, 70, of 1203 Gold St. Ext., died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover. A native of Taccoa, Ga., he was the son of Anis Mosley Babb of Shelby and the late Edgar Epps Babb. He was a member of David Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Deacon. He was an Army veteran and was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation as a mechanic. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn B. Howell and Patricia B. Cox. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Lovelace Babb of Kings Mountain; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth Walter Babb of Shelby and Darrell Wayne and Wanda Whetstine of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Don Sessoms of Kings Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill D. and Betty Babb of Kannapolis; a sister, Ramona Babb Amole of Gouchester, Ga.; six grandchildren, Lori Scruggs, Kelly Peppers, Brian Whetstine, Chad Whetstine, Christy Whetstine and Shane Sessoms; and one great-grandchild, Ridge Scruggs. SHELBY - Mr. Hoyle Hudson Wright, 70, of 2909 Lee Cornwell Road, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Lem and Essie Hudson Wright. He was a retired farmer and manager of Wright's Fishing Lake. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert Wright, George Wright, Marvin Wright, Jim Wright and Lem Wright Jr.; and a sister, Luna White. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lanier Wright; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Helen Wright and Larry and Barbara Wright, all of Lawndale; three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Carl Ray of Jonesville, S.C., Geraldine and Ronnie Bostic of Shelby and Della and Pat Randall of Lawndale; a brother, Horace Wright of Shelby; a sister, Mozelle Randall of Lawndale; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. SHELBY - Mrs. Myrtle Eloise Mintz Martin, 87, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late William Drayton and Edith McCraw Mintz. She was a homemaker and a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church, Rutherfordton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Andy Martin; and three brothers, Billy Mintz, Fred Mintz and Shull Mintz. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Bernice Greene of Boiling Springs and Willene and Norris Snellings of Shelby; three sisters, Frances Walker of Shelby, Esterine Toney of Ellenboro and Betty Funerburke of Charlotte; four grandchildren and their spouses Debbie and Mark Walker of Shelby, Scott and Kelly Snellings of Polkville, Sherrie and Doug Ledford of Boiling Springs and Joy and Jeff Lail of Cherryville; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with Dr. Harold Fite officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home. Tina Clary
SHELBY - Mrs. Tina Toney Clary, 26, of 841 East Zion Church Road, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County Nov. 14, 1973, she was a daughter of Vance Wayne Toney and Audrey Bridges Toney of Kings Mountain. She worked as a receptionist for Crawley Memorial Hospital and was a member of Christopher Road Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Joey Dwayne Clary of the home; a sister, Amy Toney of Kings Mountain; and a special friend, Holly York of Shelby.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at Christopher Road Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mickey Heyward, Dennis Helms and Marvin Greenway officiating.
The family received friends Sunday and is at the home, 841 East Zion Church Road.

Jessie Craft
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Jessie Addington Craft, 70, of 121 Ramona St., died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral is today at 4 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Revs. Billy Martin and David Jones officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Carol Crotts
CASAR - Ms. Carol H. Crotts, 56, of 121 Hywood Road, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at her home.
Born in Cleveland County Oct. 30, 1943, she was a daughter of Arno Spake Crotts of Casar and the late Charlie Edgar Crotts. She was employed at PPG Industries and was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hoffman.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Peter Santora of Seneca, S.C.; a daughter, Tammy Smart of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, A.C. Crotts of Hickory and Dwight Crotts of Casar; and two sisters, Willard Walker of Casar and Brenda Jones of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dean Cook and Dennis Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.

Dennis Epps
ELLENBORO - Mr. Dennis Lee Epps, 38, of 306 Vanity Lane, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of Daphne Taylor Epps of the home and Barnie Epps of Cliffside. He was a carpenter and a member of Race Path Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Wesley Terry of the home; a daughter, Samantha Epps of the home; a brother, Dana Epps of Boiling Springs; a sister, Lisa Epps of Cliffside; and grandparents, Gladys Epps of Henrietta and Willie Taylor of Cliffside.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside, with the Rev. Trey Gilliam officiating. Burial will be at Cliffside Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Kathy Lynn Honeycutt Simmons of Gaffney Road died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at her home.

Bettye Withrow
KINGSTOWN - Mrs. Bettye Jamerson Withrow, 65, of 2132 Kingston Road, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at her home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Rosa Mae Jamerson. She graduated from Cleveland High School and attended Knoxville College. She retired after 25 years of service with Hoescht Celanese Corp. as a lab analyst. She served as Southwestern District President of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service, and was an Audacian Club Sister, a member of the Foothills Herb Society, Chief Judge of the Board of Elections, a member of the board of the American Red Cross Cleveland County chapter and the Nancy Wilson Mission Group, and co-founder of Kingstown Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Carolyn Withrow, Clarence Withrow II and Gregory Withrow.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence Withrow; two daughters, Sharon Withrow and Karen Withrow of Charlotte; a son, Raven Guest of Grover; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Guest; three grandchildren, Brian Withrow of Charlotte, Tina Guest of Grover and Tamisha Holland of Raleigh; two sisters, Joan J. Davis of Shelby and Rebecca J. Cabaniss of Minneapolis, Minn.; four brothers, Jerry Jamerson of Raleigh, Thomas Jamerson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Charles Jamerson of Shelby and Larry Jamerson of Greensboro; two great-uncles, Everett Camp and Bill Camp of Shelby; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Eskridge Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.D. Montgomery officiating. The body will be placed in the church at noon. The family will observe quiet time at the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Evie Brackett
SHELBY - Mrs. Evie Edmondson Bell Brackett, 96, of 401 North Morgan St., died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
Born in Hall County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Marion Franklin and Katie Nevada Keys Edmondson. She was a homemaker and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Alexander Bell and Raymond Brackett; and a daughter, Dorothy L. Black.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances B. Lewis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Esther Edmondson of Shelby; a stepdaughter, Mozelle Willis of Shelby; and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Rev. R.A. Brackett officiating. Burial will be in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jody Wright
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Jody Woods Wright, 87, of Carolina Care Center, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at her home.
Born Aug. 3, 1912, in Tifton, Ga., she was a daughter of the late William Benjamin and Sarah Jackson Woods. She was a homemaker and a retired private duty nurse. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Faith Sunday School Class and the Zoe Lutz Circle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Paul Wright; a daughter, Grace Wright Palmer; two brothers, J.E. Woods and Woodrow Woods; and a sister, Jewel Woods Towery.
She is survived by three sons, Carroll Dean Wright, William Thomas Wright and Paul Dennis Wright of Shelby; a daughter, Sarah Wright Wilson of Fort Mill, S.C.; five brothers, Ted Woods and Bill Woods of Shelby, Jim Woods and Clyde Woods of Ocala, Fla., and Robert Woods of Fort Payne, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell Fitts officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of her son, Dennis Wright, 1937 Metcalf Road, Shelby.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Rachel Nanney Wilson, 74, of 140 Joy St., died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Thelma Mae Stroupe Pate, 92, of 125 Henderson Circle, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Henderson Care Center in Forest City.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel in Rutherfordton, with the Revs. Billy Vaughn and Kevin Rohm and Mrs. Suthell Walker officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Maude McDaniel
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Maude Poteet McDaniel, 87, of 99 Island Road, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Peachtree Medical Centre in Gaffney, S.C.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Clayton officiating.
Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday at White Columns Funeral Service, Blacksburg.

Monroe Jenkins
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Rev. Walter Monroe Jenkins, 82, of 264 Brenton Avenue, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Thomas Walter Jenkins and Lula David Jenkins Ammons McCallister. He was licensed in the ministry in 1948 at Whitney First Baptist Church and was a 1951 graduate of Fruitland Bible Institute. He was ordained in 1951 after having pastored at Sandy Level Baptist Church in Bostic and Poor's Ford Baptist Church in Rutherfordton. He started the Pioneer Missions Church in 1969 in Ohio and assisted in other mission churches in the Steel Valley Association. Other pastorates included West Union Baptist Church, West Union, S.C.; Alverson Grove Baptist Church, Fingerville, S.C.; and Pinewood Baptist Church, Spartanburg. He was the interim pastor and Minister of Outreach at Whitney First Baptist of Spartanburg. He was also the interim pastor at Berry Memorial Baptist Church in Gaffney, S.C. He held revivals in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He was a chaplain at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for 18 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Vassey Jenkins of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Merle Jenkins and Charles Higgins of Forest City and Linda Jenkins and Dale Carver of Shelby; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter and Sylvia Jenkins of Rutherfordton and Harry Eugene and Hazel Jenkins of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel with Jason Williams and the Revs. Reggie Hopkins and Phillip Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Grogan, Frank Blanchard, James Lewis, Jeff Williams, Bobby Sprouse, Randall Rogers and Leroy Hollifield. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Coker Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home chapel and at other times at the home.
