MOORESBORO - Mrs. Ola Gardner Blanton Goforth, 80, of 416 W. Main St., died Friday, June 30, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Gorcy Chever and Bulah Poston Blanton. She was a sales clerk with F.W. Woolworth and Belk stores and was a member of the Sandy Run Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Burton Blanton Martin, and two brothers, Marcus Blanton and Burrell Blanton.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Goforth of the home; one son, Jerry Goforth of Cheraw, S.C.; one daughter, Linda G. Wilson of Shelby; two sisters, Ruth Blanton Wilkie of Gastonia and Jeanette Blanton McKnight of Belmont; four grandchildren, Chris Wilson, Andy Wilson, Meghan Goforth and Lauren Goforth.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Sandy Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Hendrick officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

INDIAN TRAIL - Mr. Harley Lee Costner, 78, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Lake Park Health Care in Indian Trail.
He was the son of the late Marshall A. and Sallie Hullender Costner.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Myrtle C. Costner and Becky Riddie Costner.
He is survived by his son, Marshall Costner of Pineville; two step sons, John Riddle of Columbia, S.C., and Manuel Costner; three brothers, Everett Costner of Rockingham, Archie Costner of Spartanburg, S.C. and Loy Costner of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Nell C. Falls and Dorothy C. Champion, both of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe. Burial will follow in Monroe.
The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the funeral home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Juanita Erwood Peters, 73, of Lincolnton, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Brian Center.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late W.L. Erwood and Gertrude Jones Erwood. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Danny K. Payne and her brother, Carl Creedmore.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Maire and Tim L. Porter of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren, Michael Porter and Nathan Porter, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Jennie Erwood Lynn and Jane Erwood Martin, both of Kings Mountain; and nine nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at a later date at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Helen Carver Ruppe, 92, of Poors Ford Road, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Fair Haven Home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Dolphus and Elsie Moore Carver. She was a member of Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Ruppe; a son, Jimmy Ruppe; and a daughter, Wilda Cole.
She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Ruppe of Forest City, Leon and Carolyn Ruppe of Rutherfordton, Sammy and Charmaine Ruppe of Columbia, S.C. and Jerry and Mary Beth Ruppe of Shelby; a daughter and two sons-in-law, Linda and Lawrence Gibson of Columbus and the Rev. John Wesley Cole of Granite Falls; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Kistler's Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robert Waddell and John Wesley Cole officiating.

Michael Bennett
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Michael Jacob Bennett, 53, of 222 Jones St., formerly of 111 Wease Drive, Shelby, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Juanita Huffstetler Bennett Hill of Cherryville and the late Henry Wilson Bennett Jr. He was a truck driver with Conway Truck Load Service and a member of Dover Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School and coached the Marion School Football team, an American Legion Baseball team, and a City Park Baseball League.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Diana Lynn Linkous Bennett of the home; his step-father, Roland Hill of Cherryville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Jr. and Michelle Candy Bennett, Gary Dean and Kathryn Bennett and Henry Jason and Tracey Bennett, all of Shelby; two daughters, Kristy Bennett Dixon and Dana Lynn Bennett, both of Shelby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rocky and Lynn Bennett of Cherryville and Bobby and Teresa Bennett of Alexis; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Anne Bennett and Sherry and Jerry Hayes, all of Cherryville; three grandsons, Gary Michael Bennett, Jacob Arnold Bennett and Dalton Cole Bennett; and seven granddaughters, Amber Marie Bennett, Beverly Ann Bennett, Bailey Michelle Bennett, Taylor Mackenzie Dixon, Kelsea Savannah Dixon, Kennedy Diana Dixon, Hannah Nicole Dixon and Karson Alaina Bennett.

Zeb Blanton Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. Zeb Vance Blanton Jr., 82, of 424 Poplar Springs Church Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Zeb Vance Sr. and Ollie J. Blanton. He was a retired salesman for Pilot Life Insurance Company and a retired convenience store operator at Village Pantry. He was a life-long member of Sharon United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the adult Sunday school class, lay person of the year in 1990, Sunday school superintendent, lay leader during 1976-77, a trustee in 1984-88, a district officer and also served on various committees. He was president of the United Methodist Men from 1989 to 1999 and served on the administrative council from 1981 to 2000.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Blanton and Martha Blanton; a son, Zeb Vance Blanton III; four brothers, Carl Blanton, Dan Blanton, Glenn Blanton and Charles Blanton; and four sisters, Louise Hamrick, Beuna Hamrick, Thelma Blanton and Ethel McMurry.
He is survived by his wife, Susie C. Blanton of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley and Bobby Pyron and Debbie Pyron, all of Shelby; a son and two daughters-in-law, Tony and Hilda Blanton and Betty Taylor Blanton, all of Shelby; two brothers, Howard Blanton and Gene Blanton, both of Shelby; a sister, Beatrice Beam of Shelby; three grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Carl and Mary Blanton, Gene and Alice Pyron, and Todd and Nora Blanton, all of Shelby; three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Gwen and Tim Triplett and Laura B. Burgin, all of Shelby, and Rhonda Smith of Waynesville; three great-grandchildren, Casey Francis, Hunter Francis, Jodi Blanton, Jessie Blanton, Aaron Triplett and Rebecca Triplett; and two step-great-grandchildren, Tim Luckadoo, Tony Luckadoo and Charlie Luckadoo.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Sharon United Methodist Church with the Revs. Robin Kingston, Gary Ferrell, and Charles Gibbons officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Luella Hudson Short, 87, of 109 Benfield Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at her home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Benjamin and Florida Hopper Hudson. She was a charter member of Second Baptist Church of Kings Mountain and was a retired employee of Craftspun Mills in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Cleo Short.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Short and Ronnie Stacy of Shelby and Judy Short and Ralph Grindstaff of Kings Mountain; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Paula Grindstaff and Danny Lawrence of Gastonia; and three great-granddaughters, Heather Lawrence, Holly Lawrence and Erika Lawrence, all of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, with the Revs. Mike Dixon, Eugene Land and James Williams officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemtery.

GROVER - Mrs. Shirley Hartgrove Brooks, 61, of 235 Roseborough Road, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at the Brian Center in Gastonia.
She was the daughter of Victoria Hartgrove the late Earnest Hartgrove.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Brooks Sr.; and her son, Walter Lee Brooks Jr.
In addition to her mother she is survived by three sons, Gregory Hartgrove and Christopher Brooks, both of Shelby, and Aaron Brooks of Grover; four daughters, Lesia Brooks and Vickie Brooks, both of Grover, and Cheryline Brooks and Carsandra Brooks, both of Shelby; a brother, Richard Hartgrove of Spring Lake; five sisters, Odessa Robbs of Shelby, Sue Feaster, Margaret Feaster and Sunday Meeks, all of Grover, and Terri Hopper of Charlotte; 17 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Ellis Chapel with the Rev. Walter B. Ellis officiating.

SHELBY - Mrs. Julia Covey Williams, 86, of 717 Westover Terrace, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Redford, Va., she was a daughter of the late Roscoe L. and Ocie Fortune Covey. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Williams; two brothers, Max L. Covey and Paul F. Covey; and four sisters, Lucille Bailey, Kathleen Amato, Irene Grady and Edith Lockridge.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Covey Pennington of Shelby; five nieces, Robin Shuford of Polkville, Ann Beck and husband, Jim, of Hartsville, S.C., Lynn Vincent of Boone and Margo Crowell and Susan Canipe, both of Kings Mountain; and a nephew, Don M. Pennington of Lawndale.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Macie Warlick Floyd Richards, 89, of 342 Oak Grove-Clover Hill Church Road, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at White Oak Manor, Ruther-fordton.
A native of Cleveland County, she was retired from Universal Manufacturing Co. She was a foster grandparent at Union Elementary School. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she was church pianist for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Weldon Floyd; second husband, Flay Richards; her parents, J.A. and Alice Ellen Peeler Warlick; four brothers, Glenn Warlick, Paul Warlick, Ivey Warlick and Dacus Warlick; and two sister, Eula Carpenter and Vangie Beaver.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, W.D. "Billy" and Joyce Floyd of Forest City and Jerry and Marietta Floyd of Shelby; a stepson and his wife, Walter and Coleen Richards of Kings Mountain; a stepdaughter, Lunell Ives of Shelby; four grandsons and their wives, Mark and Susan Floyd and Mike and Michal Floyd, all of Polkville, Duane and Kim Floyd of Charlotte and Kelly and Christie Floyd of Union Mills; eight great-grandchildren; and many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Harrill and Warren Shuford officiating.

He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Shelby and was the son of the late Max and Cassie Washburn.
He is survived by his brother, Al Washburn of Vidalia, Ga.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Catherine Dover Childers, 78, of 654 Dixon School Road, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Horace A. and Enola Herndon Dover. She was a member of Dixon Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain and was retired from Minette Mills in Grover.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Odus Ray Childers of Kings Mountain; two sons, Randy Childers of Kings Mountain and Ricky Childers of Pleasantion, Calif.; a brother, H.C. "Ted" Dover of Grover; a sister, Pearl Hull of Shelby; a granddaughter, Stephanie Childers; two nephews, Teddy Dover and Carmie Hull; two nieces, Annette Dover Hardin and Cathy Dover Powell; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws, Annie Mae and Tom Berry, Mary Goforth, James A. and Margaret Childers, David Hull and Robert and Alda Childers.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

A native of Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late John Green and Florence Dixon. She was a retired statistic clerk and also taught school while living in Washington. She was a member of Durham United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Penny Huskey Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Joseph Haskins.
She is survived by a daughter, Denise Haskins of Atlanta; and a special goddaughter, Bernell Chambers of Shelby; a brother-in-law, Robert Williams and a sister, Bernice, Forest City.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Durham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Hunter officiating.
Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

A native of Grady County, Ga., she retired after 35 years as a bookkeeper for Doran Textiles and later Triple D Publishing. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Rollins Jr.; her parents, William Amos and Sarah Amissie Mills Bell; and a grandson, Chad M. Knight.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Mike Finnigan of Belle Meade, N.J., Carol and Wayne Lee of Charlotte, Belle and Stough A.
