LAWNDALE - Mr. Bobby Newton, 58, of 408 St. Paul Church Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Sept. 25, 1941, the son of Stella Costner Newton and the late Willie Marvin Newton. He was a self-employed carpenter and roofer and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Engle Newton.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Donny and Deitra Newton of Casar; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Dale Jones and Debbie and Miguel Valdez, all of Cat Square; a brother, Thomas Newton of Polkville; two sisters, Martha Ledford and Betty Upton, both of Lawndale; a friend, Brenda Mincey of Lawndale; and five grandchildren, Jeremy Jones, Andy Jones, Jessica Valdez, Miguel Valdez Jr. and Jana Valdez.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernie Speagle and Dennis Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. John Roy Harding, 79, of 383 York Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.

Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Vergie Hicks Mooney, 87, of White Oak Manor, formerly of Patterson Springs, died Thursday, June 29, 2000.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, with the Rev. Bobby Cable officiating.

Timothy Sloan
SHELBY - Mr. Timothy Wayne Sloan, 37, of 114 Ridgefield Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.
A native of Jefferson County, Ala., he was the son of Nevada Boyd of Gastonia and the late William G. Sloan. He graduated from TDI Truck Driving School with honors and was employed at Swift Transportation.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myrtle Sloan and Joseph T. Peercy.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah C. Sloan of the home; his step-father, Terry Boyd of Gastonia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna Sloan of Bessemer City and Dana and Tony Propst of Gastonia; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William Matthew and Kathy Sloan of Clover, S.C., Danny Boyd and David and Brenda Boyd, all of Lincolnton; a grandmother, Eva Peercy of Owensboro, Ky.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Eddie and Tammy Canipe; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Tami and Tim McFarland of Shelby and Pam and Jason Lingerfelt; three nephews and six nieces, William Matthew II, Blake, Michael, Hannah, Megan, Meredith, Candice, Lauren and Jessica; and his father- and mother -in-law, Norris and Dottie Canipe of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Linwood Church of God with the Revs. Micheal White and James Griffin officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Hall, Rocky Head, Jason Lingerfelt, Keith McFee, Kevin O'Brian and Shane Stallings.

LINCOLNTON - Ms. Juanita Erwood Peters, 73, of the Brian Center, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Brian Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late W.L. and Gertrude Jones Erwood. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Danny K. Payne; and a brother, Carl Creedmore.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Marie and Tim L. Porter of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Jennie Erwood Lynn and Jane Erwood Martin, both of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Michael Porter and Nathan Porter, both of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service will be at a later date at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Maude McDaniel
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Maude Poteet McDaniel, 87, of 99 Island Road, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Peachtree Medical Centre in Gaffney.
A native of Bessemer City, she was the daughter of the late Solmon Henry and Nancy Jane Tessner Poteet. She was the oldest member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Blacksburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence P. McDaniel; and a daughter, Edith M. Walker.
She is survived by one son, Jessie E. McDaniel of Blacksburg; two daughters, Thelma Lanier of Smyrna, S.C. and Mary Lee Tessneer of Blacksburg; 15 grandchildren;two step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Deacons at the church will serve as pallbearers.

Gertrude Kilgore
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Gertrude Inez Kilgore, 67, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Country Time Inn Rest Home in Kings Mountain.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry Kilgore and Daisy Mae Lockhart. She was a member of the Divine True Holiness Church of God in Blacksburg, S.C., where she served as charter member of the Holy Gospel Singers and as a member of the missionary board. She was a former member of Fairview AME Zion Church in Earl, where she served as an usher and was member of the junior and senior choirs. She was also a member of the Blacksburg Terrace Tuesday Prayer Service Club and Blacksburg Senior Citizens.
She is survived by three sons, Sherwood Lockhart Sr. of Columbus, Ga., Perry Lee Kilgore of Asheville and Richard Kilgore of Ludowici, Ga.; one daughter, Winnie J. Ross of Blacksburg; a brother, Nathaniel Davis of Atlanta; three sisters, Elder Vordia Dawkins and Polly Weathers, both of Blacksburg, and Minister Jo Lockhart of Grover; seven granchildren, including Tiffney Wright, reared in the home; two godchildren, Travis Lockhart and Loretta Lockhart of the home; and seven great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Divine True Holiness Church of God with Elder Eddie Lockhart officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Minister Jo Lockhart at 127 Bethlehem Church Road in Grover.

BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Ellie Davis Lowe, 77, of 178 Norman Lake Road, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at her residence.
She was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late Willis Douglas and Sophia Sawyer Davis. She was retired from Clevemont Mills in Kings Mountain and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Gastonia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard D. Lowe; a son, Michael Lowe; a stepmother, Minnie Styles Davis; a brother, Mitchell Davis; and two sisters, Hattie Robinson and Marie Harrison.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Steve and Annie Lowe of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons - in - law, Bonita Lowe and Les Knight of Mount Holly and Sheila and Roy Turner of Blacksburg, S.C.; four grandchildren, Dean Turner and Carly Turner, both of Blacksburg, Amanda Beard of Lexington and Jessica Jones of Ranlo; a brother, Walter Davis of Clover, S.C.; five sisters, Iva Lee Groves of Midland, Va., Mildred Blankenship of Ranlo, Doris Carter of Muskogee, Okla., Willene Wagonner and Faye Holcomb, both of Gastonia; and two friends, Ruby Warlick of Kings Mountain and Francis Hollifield of Tennessee.

SHELBY - Mrs. Judith Hope McNeely Causby, 55, of 5104 Canterbury Road, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Audrey Hope Gantt and the late Rayford Clint McNeely. She was the founder of Fat Boys Tire and an assembler at Fasco.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Jane Blanton Russ; and one grandson, Caleb Jackson Tenney.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Larry Gene Causby; one son Larry Clint Causby of Shelby; one daughter, Lyn McNeely Tenney of Shelby; two brothers, Mick McNeely of Charlotte and Jim McNeely of Morganton; and nine grandchildren, Joseph Colt Tenney, Cameron Wray Ledbetter, Steven Clint Causby, Larry Kenneth Causby and Summer Anne Causby, all Shelby, and Keeley Hope, Kaitlyn Grace, Claudia McNeely Russ and Miranda Alyssa Russ.
The memorial service will be today at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Lutz-Austell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Pheagin officiating.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Jay Ruff Jr., 75, of 430 Old Wagy Road, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Memorial Mission.
Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Polk, he was the son of the late Jason and Della Wilson Ruff. He was a deacon and in the senior adult men's Sunday school class of Harmon Street Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from Stonecutter Mills in Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche Sane Ruff of Forest City; two daughters and a son - in - law, Barbara and Bruce Lail of Boiling Springs and Rita Ruff of Forest City; two sons, Bruce Ruff and Donald Jay Ruff, both of Forest City; and two grandsons, Derrick Lail and Eric Lail, both of Boiling Springs.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harmon Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Rape, Tom Frady and Charlie Blackwell officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Coopers Gap Baptist Church Cemetery.
