Francis Aiken
DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. Francis James Aiken, 89, of 120 Holbrook Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
A native of Edgefield, S.C., he was born on April 29, 1910, the son of the late Henry H. and Sarah Elizabeth McElveen Aiken. He attended Furman University. He worked in textile manufacturing and founded Southeastern Textile Machinery, Inc. in 1972, where he retired as Chairman of the Board. He served the United Fund, Rotary and the YMCA. He was a member and a past master of the Judson Lodge 319 AFM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Hejaz Temple (Greenville, S.C.) Nobles of the Majestic Shrine. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Byers Aiken; one son, Francis James Aiken Jr.; and one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Turner Aiken of the home; three sons, William Robert Aiken of Anderson, S.C., Thomas H. Aiken and Daniel A. Aiken, both of Danville; two daughters, Barbara Anne Hale and Frances Aiken Martti, both of Danville; one brother, H. Ralph Aiken of Simpsonville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Danville with the Rev. Jack Heinsohn officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
B. Clyde Simpson
MONROE - Rev. B. Clyde Simpson, 83, of Monroe Manor Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Monroe Manor Nursing Home.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Price Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.
Flossie Wilson
SHELBY - Mrs. Flossie Robinson Wilson, 86, of 1404 N. Lafayette St., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late John Creighton and Annie Mae Hensley Robinson. She retired as co-owner and operator of Wilson's Grocery in Polkville. She was a member of Polkville Baptist Church, and a charter member of Camp Call Order of the Eastern Star No. 287.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Vernon Wilson; two brothers, Shelby Robinson and Riley Robinson; and one sister, Carrie Wilson.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Nona and Paul Shuford of Lawndale, Sharon and Warren Grigg of Shelby and Eula Mae and Norman Crews of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one brother, Kenneth Robinson of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Nina Barber of Hanahan, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home of Paul and Nona Shuford, 1615 W. Stagecoach Trail, Lawndale.

SHELBY - Ms. Rebecca Ashdown, 38, died Dec. 12, 1998.
She is survived by her mother, Joyce Ashdown; one sister, Beth Parson; one brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Judy Ashdown; one great-grandfather, Bob Lute; seven nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Civil Air Patrol Headquarters at Shelby Airport.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Thomas Oran Kiser Jr., 67, of 1302 Joyce drive, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at his home.
A graveside service with full military honors was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville, with the Revs. Daniel Featherstone and Darrell Harrelson officiating.

Samuel Cuthbertson
SHELBY - Mr. Samuel Eck Cuthbertson, of 925 Lake Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
Born Sept. 26, 1910, he was the son of the late Samuel and Harriett Cuthbertson. He received his early education in the McDowell County School system. He retired from Bost Bakery.
He was a longtime member of St. John AME Church in Nebo, and later was affiliated with Roberts Tabernacle CME Church of Shelby, and still later became a Jehovah's Witness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Ola Wray Cuthbertson.
He is survived by two sisters, Luna J. Drumwright of Roxboro, and Lillian Thombs and her husband Kenneth of Glen Alpine; a sister-in-law, Edna B. Cuthbertson of Durham; two nieces, Betty Parham and her husband, Wade, of Roxboro, and Betty Lou Fleming of Columbus, Ohio; two nephews and their wives, Jose and Ann Solis of Columbus, and Robert and Carol Thomas of Antioch, Calif.; and a great-nephew, Jose Solis Jr., his wife and two sons, of Centerville, Va.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Samuel J. Wray Sr. and Bettye Scott Wray of Mitchellville, Md.; stepgrandchildren, Sherrye Y. Wray and Derwyn K. Wray, all of Mitchellville, and Samuel Wray Jr. and Freida Wray of Bowie, Md.; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Morgan D. Wray of Mitchellville; and a host of friends.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mobley's Mortuary & Chapel. Entombment will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.

SHELBY - Miss Eila Rebecca Hopper Brynn, 81, of 104 E. 63rd St., New York, N.Y., formerly of Shelby, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Stough C. and Margaret Laura London Hopper. She was a retired fashion model and a former member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carlos London Hopper, Alton Marian Hopper and James Madison Hopper.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Hopper Wells and Mack Wells of Shelby.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the gazebo at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with Dr. Robert Canoy officiating.

C. Stough Harrelson
FALLSTON - Mr. Charles Stough Harrelson, 79, of 1011 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County Jan. 18, 1920, he was a son of the late Wiley North and Pearl Jane Harmon Harrelson. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, a former member of Fallston Lions Club and the former town clerk of Fallston. He served in the U.S. Army-Air Force Division during World War II. He retired from the Cleveland County tax office as deputy tax collector.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Clay Harrelson; a son, Alan Harrelson of Cherryville; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann H. and Larry Finger of Lincolnton; one brother, Hal Harrelson of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Blanche Stroupe of Cherryville and Madge Yoder of Fallston; and three granddaughters, Melissa Turney, Amber Harrelson and Brandy Towery.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Ingram, Erman Bradley, Robert Wise and Guy Godfrey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Bessie Walker Morrison, 94, of 130 Joe Z. Road, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County Sept. 25, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Jane Cook Walker. She was a homemaker and worked for several furniture manufacturers. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Franklin Morrison; three brothers, Colonel Walker, Ambrose Walker and Addie Walker; two sisters, Texie Walker and Maggie Hoyle; and a daughter, Vangie M. Buff.
She is survived by a son, Donald Morrison of Vale; a son and daughter-in-law, Carmie and Viola Morrison of Rhodhiss; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leonia and Willard Bradshaw and Ruby and B.H. Sain, all of Lawndale; and a daughter, Argel Canipe, also of Lawndale; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest W. Speagle officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Peggy Joyce Walker, 62, of 111-3 High Ridge Court, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Daughter of the late William Odell Leigh and Irene Bridges Walker, she retired from Kemet as a quality inspector.
She is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Andy and Madeline Leigh of Shelby, Fred and Robin Leigh of High Point and Jim and Sandra Leigh of Greer, S.C.; nephews Jordan Leigh and Paul Leigh; and nieces, Susan Howington, Rebecca Leigh, Natalie Leigh, Crystal Leigh and Karen Leigh.

A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Junie Lee and Susie Smith Bright Batchlor. He was a waste cotton dealer.

A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Everette L. and Ola Mae Blanton Hardin. She worked at Esther Mill Corporation. She attended Peach Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Martha Rose Hamrick and Shirley Heafner; two brothers, William "Bud" Hardin and Lewis Hardin; and first husband, Earl Greene.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Lee Willis of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronnie Greene of Shelby and Richard and Jane Greene of Charleston, S.C.; one stepson, Glenn R. Willis of Osteen, Fla.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary H. and Jim Hardin, Esther Sisk and Bonnie Worth, all of Shelby; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
