William "Bud" Carter Sr.
LAWNDALE - Mr. William "Bud" Hass Carter Sr., 69, of 4423 Hoover Road, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Charlie Lee and Della Estelle Ramsey Carter. He was a retired fixer from C & N Rug Company and was a member of Word of Life Baptist Church. He served in the Army and National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances White.
He is survived by a son, Billy Carter Jr. of Lawndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Scott Lovelace of Shelby; four brothers, Jim Carter of Shelby, David Carter of Lattimore, Tom Carter of Spartanburg, S.C., and John Carter of Hickory Grove, S.C.; five sisters, Martha Bridges of Lawndale, Betty Jane Champion of Cherryville, Eloise Dysart of Mooresboro, Virginia Foster of Swainsville and Joyce Huber of New House; four grandchildren, Danyeal Emory, Brandy Bradley, Michael Carter and Chris Dixon; and one great-grandchild, Kelli Bradley.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Morrison officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Susan and Scott Lovelace, 812 McGowan Road, Shelby.

SPINDALE - Mrs. Lillie Harrill Carpenter, 86, of 106 Campbell St., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Clinard officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe Funeral Home.

Ollie Newton
NEBO - Mrs. Ollie Irene Lawson Newton, 84, of McDowell Nursing Center, formerly of Polkville, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at McDowell Nursing Center.
A native of Laurens, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Archie Jacob and Leona Knight Lawson. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Newton; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Everette Newton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Elaine Newton of Charleston, S.C., Chuck and Betty Newton of Mooresboro, Leonard and Wanda Newton of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., James and Diane Newton of Warner Robins, Ga., and Roger and Rachel Newton of Alabama; three daughters and a son-in-law, Annie Blanton and Linda and Billy Wright, all of Shelby and Carolyn Newton of Polkville; a daughter-in-law, Faye Newton of Shelby; two brothers, Russell Lawson of Shelby and Ernest Lawson of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Hickory, Martha Smart of Polkville, and Fannie Garrett of Union, S.C.; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Shumate officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Linda and Billy Wright, 300 Carmel Drive, Shelby.

Gene Stone
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Gene Stone, 65, of 907 Blalock Drive, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Jack and Viola Putnam Stone. He was a retired plant manager at Kings Mountain Brick after 30 years. He served in the Marines and was a member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Stone.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stone of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gina Stone and Tim Bell of Kings Mountain and Lindy Stone and Harlan Haynes of Bessemer City; a sister, Mary Valentine of Kings Mountain; and five grandchildren, Gia S. Bell, Dustin Stone, Timmy Bell, Josh Bell and Nicholas Bell.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Christian Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Chambers officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 907 Blalock Drive.

Robert Reese
CHARLOTTE - Mr. Robert Michael Reese, 52, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born March 11, 1948, in Pensacola, Fla., he was the son of the late Robert C. and Mary Lovett Reese. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and was employed as a surveyor with Aerodynamics. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam, where he received the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Charlotte H.O.G. and the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Humphries Reese; a son, Robert "Brian" Reese of Charlotte; a sister and brother-in-law, Joelle and David Gibson of Wrentham, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Kate Reese of St. Louis; two nephews, Carl Nobles of Charlotte and Edwin Reese of St. Louis; a niece, Ellie Reese of St. Louis; his mother and father-in-law, William and Betty Fowler of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law and his wife, Ed and Betsy Humphries and their two daughters, Kristin Humphries and Carrie Humphries of Huntersville; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Susan and Keith Paden of Dayton, Ohio, and Jane and Jim Hoffman of Charlotte.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service of Charlotte.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

GASTONIA - Ruby Adeline "Adel" Lawing, infant daughter of Benny and Renae Mullis Lawing of Gastonia, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Madison Elizabeth Lawing; maternal grandparents, James Paul and Lydia Mullis of Gastonia; paternal grandparents, Benny P. and Barbara Lawing Sr. of Mount Holly; a maternal great-grandmother, Ruby E. Mullis of Gastonia; and paternal great-grandparents, Craig and Ruby Lawing of Mount Holly.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Carothers Funeral Home in Mount Holly with the Rev. James A. Lowery officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Florine Livsey
SHELBY - Mrs. Florine Hughes Livsey, 79, of 2532 Shoal Creek Church Road, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at White Oak Manor.
A native of York, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Vernon Johnson and Clay Dorinda Hughes. She was formerly employed by Universal Manufacturing and was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, O.T. Livsey Sr., one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Livsey, and four infant children.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Curley Livsey, O.T. Jr. and Delia Livsey, and Robert and Vicky Livsey, all of Shelby; four daughters and a son-in-law, Pearl Strong, Cammie and Beauford Pressley, Sara L. Littlejohn, Shirley Hipps and a special daughter, Dorthy Hosch, all of Shelby; three sisters-in-law, Lovie Feaster of Gaffney, S. C., Elizabeth Morgan of Shelby, and Serphe Livsey of Gaffney; one brother-in-law, William Johns of Baltimore; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Isaac officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church two hours before the service.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Charlie Hartgrove
SHELBY - Mr. Charlie Hartgrove, 55, of 621 South Lafayette St., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home.
A native of Shelby, he was the son of Ida Bell Blair Hartgrove and the late Harry Lee Hartgrove Sr.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Lee Hartgrove Jr. and three sisters, Ruth Hartgrove, Minnie Bell Hartgrove and Geraldine Hartgrove.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Millie Hartgrove of Shelby; five brothers, Willie Hartgrove of Charlotte, Bobby Hartgrove of Marion, Robert Hartgrove, Kenneth Hartgrove and Roger Hartgrove, all of Shelby; two sisters, Mary Frances Bess and Mattie Sue Dill, both of Shelby; and two friends, Gloria Sanders and Sally Mathis, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. Gene Pryor officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

Barbara Cunningham
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Barbara Lynn Wray Cunningham, 36, of 702 Littlejohn St., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, S.C..
A native of Cleveland County, she was born March 2, 1964, the daughter of James Edward Barrow and Merlean Wray Carson. She was employed at Paragon Manufacturing Company in Gaffney and was a member of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church in Shelby. She was a 1982 graduate of Shelby High School.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a stepfather, Jimmy Carson; her husband, Nelson Cunningham of the home; one son, Quinton Tyreece Wray of Shelby; two-stepsons, Nelson Cunningham III and Tony Cunningham, both of Gaffney; one daughter, Shevonda Nicole Wray of Shelby; two brothers, Wayne Wray of Shelby and James Barrow Jr. of Washington D.C.; three sisters, Trudy Camp, Kimberly Wray and Tammy Wray, all of Shelby; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; her grandmother, Ida Wray of Shelby; her mother-in-law, Marie Cunningham of Gaffney; three nieces; seven nephews; one great-nephew; six aunts and four uncles.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie D. Wray officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

"Bill" Washington
SHELBY - Mr. William "Bill" Washington, 72, of 419 East Grover St., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home.
A native of Bishopville, S.C., he was born Oct. 17, 1927, the son of the late Richard and Ellen Mack Washington. He was a retired custodian with Carolina Freight and was a devoted Christian deacon for more than two decades at Shiloh Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Washington, a son Walker Washington, a sister, Thelma Payton and two brothers, James Washington and Stanley Washington.
He is survived by his step-mother, Mozella Washington of Lamar, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary H. and Earnest Clyde Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Patricia A. McGowen of Lawndale and Roy McGowen of Baltimore; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Richard and Elizabeth Washington of Brooklyn, Eugene and Gloria Washington of Lamar, Harold Washington of Lamar, Homer and John W. Whisnant of New Britain, Conn.; John W. and Doreatha Whisnant of New Britain, Charlotte Munford of Englewood, N.J., Herman Williams of Marion, S.C. and James A. Whisnant of the home; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Kitty and Robert Bee of Bronx, N.Y., Iris Washington of Bronx, Barbara Ann and Herman Williams of Lamar; an uncle and aunt, Baxter and Aretha Whisnant of Shelby; three granddaughters, Sharon L. McGowen of Kings Mountain, Sharene L. McGowen of Lawndale and Jacqueline Clyde of Brooklyn; a grandson, Earnest Clyde III of Brooklyn.; a friend, the Rev. Charles Ford of Shelby and 10 great-grandchildren.

Delia McKeown
SHELBY - Mrs. Delia Louise McKeown, 90, of 698 W. Zion Church Road, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Wendover Hospice.
A native of Rock Hill, S.C. she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Mary Sanders McDaniel. She was a lifelong member of Adnah United Methodist Church and was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing as a private duty nurse. She collected dolls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd McDaniel, Foster McDaniel and Blease McDaniel; and four sisters, Beatrice Estes, Corine Edwards, Madeline Brown and Jessie McDaniel.
She lived with her niece and her husband, Sheila and Ken Allen; and her great nieces, Amanda and Kesha Allen and a great-nephew, Kenneth Allen.
She is survived by one son, Buddy McDaniel of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Adnah United Methodist Church with the Revs. Mike Leonhardt and Brian Glisson officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will received friends Saturday from 6 to 7:30 at Bass Funeral Home and other times at the home of Troy Brown, 3490 Highway 324, Rock Hill, S.C.

A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Sarah Chapman Wise. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church and was retired from Sherman Textile.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Glover.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dedra and Roger Blake of Lincolnton; one brother, Eddie Wise of Bessemer City; three sisters, Faye Cable of Shelby, Carolyn Sapough of Blacksburg, S.C., and Dorthy Patterson of Bessemer City; four grandchildren, Dana Blake, Michael Blake, Christy Blake and Anthony Blake; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Millwood Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
