BURNSVILLE - Mrs. Edith McIntosh Thomas, 83, of Burnsville, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Asheville Health Care Center.
A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Carrie Gibbs McIntosh.
She is survived by her husband, Carter Thomas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Jim Curtis of Clyde, Judy and Bill Cullum of Shelby and Rebecca and Kevin Ray of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Cora Honeycutt of Burnsville; a brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Edna McIntosh of Burnsville; and five grandchildren, including Billy Cullum of Pahoa, Hawaii, and Christy Cullum of Winston-Salem.
The funeral was Monday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Burnsville.
Burial was at Double Island Baptist Church Cemetery.

COLUMBUS - Mrs. Lillian Enloe VanDyke, 83, formerly of Alexander Mills, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Rev. J.J. Powell officiating.
Burial will follow at Alexander Mills Cemetery.

BOSTIC - Mr. Ronald A. Toney, 67, of 300 Engineer Road, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Revs. Jessie Mills and Wayne Toney officiating.
Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Commie Gibbs
SHELBY - Mr. Commie Gibbs, 83, of 121 Palmer St., died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Marshall, Ala., he was the son of the late Zerah Thomas and Eliza Graves Gibbs. He retired from Bost Bakery and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He was a Mason and an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a corporal with the 505th Parachute Infantry. Wounded in the battles of Normandy and Sicily, he received the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf cluster. He also earned a European-African-Middle Eastern Theater service ribbon.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Walker Gibbs; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharon Gibbs of Glen Burnie, Md.; two daughters, Nancy Newton of Mayo, S.C., and Linda Rudicil of Clemmons, S.C.; three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Karen and Robert Harrill, Michelle Schwanke and Jennifer Rudicil; two grandsons, Jeff Gibbs and Scot Rudicil; and two great-grandchildren, Megan Harrill and Robert Harrill.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Cemetery, with full military rites, with Dr. Harold Fite officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

FOREST CITY - Mr. David Lee Hartman, 28, of Forest City, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at his home.

SHELBY - Mrs. Betty Ann Curtis, 61, of 215 Lily St., died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Fredericksburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Earl Sullivan and Helen Monteith Sullivan Allen. She was a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy Lee Haley, and a daughter, Pamela Sue Curtis.
She is survived by two sons, Earl Curtis of Stafford, Va., and Rickey Lee Haley of Lillington; three daughters, Alice Perry of Fredericksburg, Tina Lee Haley of Kings Mountain and Teresa Valadez of Gastonia; a stepson, Joseph Curtis of Fredericksburg; two stepdaughters, Carol Gumpert and Rita Faye Miller, both of Fredericksburg; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Edward Murphy, 80, of 700 Self St., died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. Walter Adams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

POLKVILLE - Mrs. Nova Mae Mode, 78, of 2600 W. Stagecoach Trail, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late T.C. and Pearl Harris Weatherford. She was a homemaker and a member of Polkville Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Dennis Mode; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Roger Watson of Atlanta and Sandy and Jim Putnam of Reidsville; four grandsons, Eric Watson of Polkville, Jason Watson of Atlanta, Bryan Putnam of Reidsville and Joel Putnam of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Stephanie Watson of Denver, Colo.; and a great-grandson, Taylor Watson of Atlanta.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

LAKE LURE - Mr. Leno "Gene" Michelon, 82, of 292 Huntington Road, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.

Mary Keeter
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary Alston Keeter, 104, of 200 Cleveland Avenue, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Powellsville, she was born on July 21, 1896, the daughter of the late Joseph Jefferson and Mary Eoline Morris Alston. She was a 1914 graduate of Chowan College where she was valedictorian of her class. She taught school in Grover and piano at Bethware for several years. She also assisted her husband at Keeter's Department Store in Kings Mountain which was open from 1926 and 1963. She was a member of the Study Club for more than 60 years. She was a charter member of Kings Mountain Garden Club and a member of the Woman's Club, Kings Mountain Country Club, several bridge clubs and served as a pink lady and receptionist at Kings Mountain Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain where she was choir director and played for worship, weddings and funerals. She taught intermediate girls in Sunday School, led girls auxiliary, was a circle leader and WMU president. She helped organize the church library and was its first librarian. She attended many activities at Ridgecrest, the Baptist Assembly Grounds. She also served the WMU on the Association level as associate superintendent organizing new groups in the churches while maintaining her interest in the library. She was the senior member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Byron Keeter and a son-in-law, D.F. Hord.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Eoline K. Hord of Kings Mountain and Jo Keeter Madison and her husband, Randolph Jr. of Petersburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Kings Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Olin Byrum officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mildred Montgomery Ledford, 79, of 312 Maner Road, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Effie McGinnis. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was retired from Minette Mills in Grover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Boyd Montgomery and her second husband, James Ledford.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Wanda Montgomery of Kings Mountain; a step son and step daughter-in-law, Rick and Patricia Ledford of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Linda Clark and Aneita Champion, both of Shelby; a step daughter, Terry Ledford of Kings Mountain; a brother, Carl McGinnis of Raleigh; two sisters, Ocie Hoyle and Pat Parker, both of Dallas; four grandchildren, Robin Carlton, Jimmy Sanders, Shannon Sanders and Haley Montgomery; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. David Turner officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.
