'Ish' Bridges
POLKVILLE - Mr. David Ishmael "Ish" Bridges, 65, of 3445 Bridges Dairy Road, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late J.V. and Hettie Newton Bridges. He was the owner-operator of Polkville Appliance Services and attended Polkville Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Paul Cline Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Cline Bridges of the home; two sons, David Bridges and John Bridges, both of Polkville; his mother-in-law, Mildred Cline of Lawndale; and two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Steve and Carla Cline and Paul A. Cline, all of Lawndale.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Revs. Alton Martin, Landon Rice and Glenn Walker officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

GOLDEN VALLEY - Mr. K.J. Brackett, 78, of Highway 226, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at McDowell Nursing Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was born Dec. 1, 1921, the son of the late Jim and Laura Black Brackett. He was employed at Carnation Milk Company for 24 years and was also a night watchman at Cleveland Mills and was at other times self-employed. He was a member of Mount Moriah United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Hudson Brackett; two sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Carolyn Brackett of Forest City and Mark "Pete" and Pat Brackett of Glen Alpine; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Janie Brackett, Donna Brackett, Susan and Larry Hunt, and Tracy and Charlie Beheler, all of Bostic; two sisters, Mamie Hoover of Bostic and Velmon B. Biggerstaff of Forest City; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Saint Paul Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mildred Bumgarner
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mildred Hawkins Bumgarner, 69, of 806 Hillside Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Preston Audie and Nettie Pearson Hawkins. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Bumgarner; a sister, Ann Ruth Whitesides; and a brother, J.B. Hawkins.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Debra Bumgarner of Brunson, S.C., and Lt. Col. Mike and Sandra Bumgarner of Ft. Bliss, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela "Dee" and James Fouss of Round Rock, Texas; a brother, Tommy Hawkins of Kings Mountain; six sisters, Betty Crawford, Etha Bumgarner, Peggy Davis and Myra Hagans, all of Kings Mountain, Lois Ellis of Grover and Linda Tignor of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Matthew Fouss, Audrey Fouss, Kyle Bumgarner and Kirk Bumgarner.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dale Swofford officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Robert Orion "Runt" Pace, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home.

Robert Whitaker
CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Robert Eugene Whitaker, 72, of 2085 N.C. 120, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford county, he was a son of the late Marvin R. and Zora Painter Whitaker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, and was a member of Cliffside Masonic Lodge and Cliffside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Cardell Whitaker of the home; two stepsons, Robert E. Smith of Weddington and Doug Smith of Charlotte; one brother, Frank Whitaker of Shelby; two sisters, Hazel Lucas of Yopon Beach and Betty Butler of Forest City; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside. Burial in Cliffside Cemetery will be accompanied by Masonic rites.

YORK, S.C. - Mrs. Margaret Virginia Greene Tritt, 79, of 426 Deer Meadow Road, formerly of Cliffside, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at her home.

EATON RAPIDS, Mich. - Mr. James T. 'J.T.' Camp, 77, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000.
A native of Shelby, he was born Apri1 1, 1922, the son of the late Boyd and Laura Spake Camp. He was a veteran of World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. He was retired from the Teamsters Local No. 580, and worked for Granger Brothers Construction in Lansing, Mich. He also worked as a truck driver for Cooper Chevy/Olds in Eaton Rapids. He was a founding member of the Island City Baptist Church and a life member and past noble of the I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 114, both in Eaton Rapids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on June 3, 2000; a son Dwight in 1958; a sister, Ruby Camp Ross; and two brothers, Joe A. Camp and Bill M. Camp.
He is survived by his children, Laura Miller and Vernie Miller, Diane Oberlin, James Camp Jr., Brian Camp, Deborah Lynch and David Lynch, and Caroyll Camp; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Bob Fortenberry, Jean Allen, Joann and Charles Daves, Raye and Aubrey Clark, and Rachel and Bill Jolley; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Hoyle and Katherine Camp, Jack and Barbara Camp, John and Earleen Camp, Hugh and Carolyn Camp, Irene Camp and Louise Camp; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a. m. at Clay Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Keith Dixon officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of Euzelia Whistnant Moore of Shelby and the late Graham B. Moore. She was coordinator of the operating room at the Shelby Women's Clinic. She was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Douglas W. Griffin of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott Sr. and Sonja Griffin of Boiling Springs; a grandson, Scott Griffin Jr. of Boiling Springs; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Genie Moore and Herman and Frances Moore, all of Boiling Springs; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Ralph and Jo Thrift of York, S.C., Marion and Ruby Thrift of Rock Hill, S.C. and Frank Griffin Jr. of Shelby.

SHELBY - Mr. Everette Eugene Mayhue, 55, of 5006 Bowen Drive, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a loom fixer for Doran Textiles and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Lee and Louise Griffith Mayhue.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Jane Alexander Mayhue of the home; two sons, Jeff Mayhue and Kevin Mayhue, both of Shelby; a daughter, Kristie Mayhue Brooks of Shelby; two brothers, Bobby Mayhue and Larry Mayhew, both of Shelby; two sisters, Joanne Collins of Rock Hill, S.C., and Carol Mayhue Grayson of Shelby; and eight grandchildren.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Hazel Thomas Chapman, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at the Brian Center in Charlotte.
A native of Commerce, Ga., she was born June 4, 1914, the daughter of the late Leonard and Betty Chambers Thomas. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and for many years worked at Lee's Rest Home and North Mecklenburg High School Cafeteria.
She is survived by her son, Alfred Chapman of Dunn; two daughters, Ellen Taylor and Mildred Williams, both of Charlotte, Betty Auten of Indian Trail and Hilda Elliott of Polksville; two brothers, Robert Thomas and Ray Thomas, both of Blacksburg, S.C., and James Thomas of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late James Floyd and Mary Ross Pressley. She was retired from Beverly Knit in Gastonia.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, J.B. Pressley, Odell Pressley and Venoy Pressley; and a sister, Georgia Gore Lutz.
She is survived by a special friend, James "Dick" Jones of Gastonia; a son and daughter-in-law, John A. Jr. and Patricia Queen of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Margaret Arrowood of Kings Mountain and Dorothy Harry of Sanford, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jeffry Scott Queen and John Travis Queen; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Scott Mead and John Tanner Queen.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Paulie William "Dick" Reynolds, 77, of 3449 Charlie Elliott Road, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at VA Medical Center in Asheville.
A native of Burke County, he was born May 7, 1924, the son of the late John Joseph and Rosalia Hilderbran Reynolds. He was retired from maintenance at JP Stevens and Cooksville Hosiery Mill. He was a member of Polkville VFW No. 8030. He served in the Army in the 737 Tank Batallion during World War II in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Ruth McNeilly Reynolds; a son, Dennis Reynolds; a brother, A.E. "Joe" Reynolds; and two sisters, Beatrice Pons and Bonnie Walker.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm and Dot Reynolds of Gastonia; a grandson and his wife, Chad and Allison Reynolds of Lawndale; two granddaughters, Susan Reynolds Johnson and her husband, Matt, of Huntersville and Janet Reynolds of Gastonia; two brothers, Vance Reynolds of Valdese and Johnny Reynolds of Connelly Springs; three sisters, Pauline Rudisell of Vale and Lena Hoyle and Josie Brittain, both of Connelly Springs; and a great-granddaughter, Catilynn Reynolds.
