KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary Ann Hendren Hutchins, 50, of 1436 Phifer Road, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at her home.
She was the daughter of Juanita Sprouse Craig of Kings Mountain and the late Charlie Hendren. She attended First Wesleyan Church. She was employed at A Kut Above.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Chelcee Scism.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Johnny Hutchins of Kings Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Elizabeth Hutchins of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Buffy and John Murphey and Tammy and Gary Hogue, all of Kings Mountain; a brother, Leroy Hendren of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Joann Patterson of Boiling Springs and Dora Jean Poston of Gastonia; and four grandchildren, Lyndsey Murphey, Jacob Murphey, Morgan Scism and Johnna Scism.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain, with the Revs. Don Williams and Ray Allmond officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

O. Dean Brooks
GASTONIA - Mr. O.Dean Brooks, 70, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late George E. and Aquille Scruggs Brooks. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard and was retired transportation coordinator for Talon, Inc. in Stanley. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gastonia, where he was a deacon and former Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra Brooks and Daniel Schmit of Portland, Oregon and Shana Brooks Sinclair of Charlotte; a former wife, Marjorie C. Brooks of Charlotte; two brothers, C.J. Brooks of Crawfordsville, Ind. and Dennis Brooks of Alta Vista, Va..; five sisters, Reba Tapy of Dallas, Irene Wane of Shelby, Gladys Boroughs of Greensboro, Edith Hoffman of Shelby and Clara Lowe of Mount Holly; and two grandchildren, Briana D. Sinclair and Carley J. Sinclair.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Gastonia, with the Rev. Ned Buckner officiating.
Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church.

Beaulah Hoey
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Mrs. Beaulah Mae Keaton Hoey, 65, died Wednesday, August 8, 2000, in Indianapolis.
She was retired after nine years as a elementary school teacher for Shelby schools. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She had a B.A. from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville and a M.A. from N.C. A&T University in Greensboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ivey Clifton Hoey Jr.
She is survived by a son, Robert "Bob" Ivey Clifton Hoey III; four brothers, Glen Keaton Jr., Haywood Keaton, Harvey Keaton and Samuel Keaton; and a sister, Pauline Keaton.
No funeral services will be held.

Wilbert Hartgrove
SHELBY - Mr. Wilbert Hartgrove, 75, of 622 North Post Road, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Gaither Hartgrove and Ella Bell Degree. He was formerly employed by Dicey Fabrics of Shelby for 25 years. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Albertine Hamrick Hartgrove; one brother, Gaither Hartgrove Jr.; and five sisters, Elmira Sweezy, Ida Degree, Ophelia Hartgrove, Eloise Hartgrove and Ruby Degree.
He is survived by a son, Leon Hartgrove of Shelby; two daughters, Yvonne Richardson and Lucille Bradshaw, both of Shelby; one son-in-law, Rudolph Richardson of Shelby; one sister, Willie Hartgrove of Shelby; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. Robert Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home.
Mary Lou McCurry Langston
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Lou "Lukie" McCurry Langston, of 3719 Robert Ridings Road, died Monday, August 7, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Maultie Jarrett McCurry. She was a retired professional answering service operator and a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Eva McDaniel, Libby Elam, Hannah Jones, Zola Greene, Nancy Callahan and Ellen Towery; and two brothers, Hoyt McCurry and Dan McCurry.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert M. Langston Sr. of the home; a son, Herb M. Langston Jr. of Cramerton; a daughter, Gail Langston of Boiling Springs; a granddaughter, Brittanie Nicole Langston of Cramerton; a brother-in-law, Ralph Callahan of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Frances McCurry of Columbia, S.C. and Mary Lee L. Martin of Jacksonville, Fla.; 18 nephews; and 10 nieces.
The funeral was Thursday at 4 p.m. at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gervase Hitch and Bruce Bradley officiating.
Burial followed at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Thomas Cobb
ASHEVILLE - Mr. Thomas Dukes Cobb, 97, of Asheville, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000.
A native of Asheville, he was the son of the late Commander Alphonso H. and Margaret Dukes Cobb. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Asheville and the Men's Bible Class. He was a graduate of Asheville High School and Davy Tree Expert School in Kent, Ohio. He was with Davy Tree for 25 years before joining the Wilson Tree Company as vice president. He served a term as president of Southeast Region of the International Society of Arborists. After retirement, he worked for the Western Carolina Apple Grower's Association in Hendersonville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Egberta North Cobb.
He is survived by four nieces, Carolyn T. Gray and her husband, Carl, of Asheville, Carolyn G. Morse of Columbia, S.C., Mary A. Swancey of Julian and Margaret Strelsky of Santa Ana, Calif.; three nephews, Sam Gillespie of Sumter, S.C. and Bill Campbell and Dr. John Campbell, both of Shelby; 18 grandnieces and nephews; and many other great-grandnieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery with Dr. Albert G. Peery and Dr. John Campbell officiating.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Flay Howard Hoyle, 75, of 302 Harrelson Road, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Clem Dixon and Lola Hoyle Hoyle. He was retired from Bernhardt Furniture Company of Shelby and was a member of Double Shoals United Methodist Church and the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the Army during World War II in Northern France and was awarded the Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd Hoyle and James Louie Hoyle, and a sister, Mary Lou Hoyle.
He is survived by his wife, Ray McFarland Hoyle of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nellie and the Rev. Larry Hoyle of Lewistown, Mont., and Jeannie and the Rev. Ray Davis of Marion; two brothers, Harvey Hoyle of Lawndale and Russell Hoyle of Shelby; six grandchildren, Jim Davis, Andy Hoyle, Amy Lunsford, Wally Hoyle, Jennifer Davis and Matthew Davis; and four great grandchildren, Beau Davis, Jonathan Hoyle, Ryan Hoyle and Noah Lunsford.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Double Shoals United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Reep and Larry Hoyle officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park with full military rites.

BOONE - Mrs. Ruth Sinclair Dodd, 90, formerly of Stoney Point Road, Waco, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Patrick and Lily Jerusha O'Brian Sinclair. She retired after 36 years of service as an elementary school teacher with Cleveland County Schools. She was a member of Waco Baptist Church, where she served as church organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the N.C.A.E. and a graduate of Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Henry Dodd; and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Dodd and Joe Philps of Boone; two nieces, Frances Haynes Cambell of Taylorsville and Mary Ann Haynes Yount of Greensboro; and two grandsons, James Edward Dellinger of Asheville and Walter Craig Dellinger of Greensboro.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilson Harmon and Gene Grigg officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin William Ledford; three sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew and Irene Ledford, Clifford and Linda Ledford and Jimmy and Christine Ledford, all of Boiling Springs; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

SHELBY - Mrs. Sandra Hendrick Ware, 39, of 918 Crawley Gin Road, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Dwight and Betty Scruggs Hendrick of Shelby. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Great Expectations Sunday School Class. She was a previous Sunday school teacher and a member of Mission Friends. She was a 1979 graduate of Crest High School.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hassam and Effie Scruggs and Stowe Hendrick and her mother-in-law, Peggy Ware.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 19 years, Scott Ware, of the home; two sons, Jed Ware and Ryan Ware of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy Hendrick and Steve Davis of Shelby; her grandmother, Florence Hendrick of Shelby; her father-in-law, Jack Ware of Shelby; a sister-in-law and her husband, Susan Ware and Dr. John Davis of Mooresville; a brother-in-law and his fiancée, John Ware of Shelby and Jill Dillard of Denver; two nieces, Mary Davis of Shelby and Hannah Davis of Mooresville; three nephews, Daniel Davis of Shelby and Adam Davis and Matthew Davis of Mooresville; and many aunts and uncles.
