Janie Bradley
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Ellen Jane "Janie" Bradley, 72, of 238 Battleground Road, died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Ira Trent and Ida Mayes Allen. She was retired from Bunch, Inc. and was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Bradley and a daughter, Ellen Elane Bradley.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Grady Dean and Brenda Allen and Joseph Edward and Edith Allen, all of Grover and Jimmy Lee and Lisa Bradley of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Ruth Allen and Carol Black, both of Grover; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Waters officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jimmy and Lisa Bradley, 228 Battleground Ave., Kings Mountain.
Agnes Elam
WILLIAMSTON, Mich. - Mrs. Agnes Meerman Elam, 93, of 1798 Harvey Road, formerly of Rustic Road, Lawndale, died Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Mich.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., she was born on Mar. 21, 1907, the daughter of the late Will and Effie Sicherman Meerman. She was a retired dietician at Edwards Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and a homemaker. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam W. Elam and two brothers, Siebert Meerman and William R. Meerman.
She is survived by a stepson, Rhodes Elam of Colorado Springs, Co.; two brothers, Matthew Meerman of Lansing and Frederick Meerman of Williamston; a sister, Anna May Mead of Williamston; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronell Owensby officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Brice Holland
SHELBY - Mr. Brice F. Holland, 89, of 5170 N. Lee Road, died Monday, August 14, 2000, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
A native of Jackson County, Ga., he was the son of the late Samuel F. and Letcher Cooper Holland. He was a retired truck driver for Spangler Concrete Company. He was a member of Lattimore Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He was a former scout master in Lattimore, a former board member of Boiling Springs Rescue Squad and a former member of Lattimore Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nuerell Holland; two brothers, Brazie Holland and Dorsey Holland; and a grandson, Keith Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence Bramlett Holland of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie and Ray Cox and Nancy and Doug Monroe, all of Boiling Springs and Nina and Ronnie Price of Lattimore; two sons and daughters-in-law, Horace and Mary Ann Holland of Kernersville and Wayne and Peggy Holland of Charlotte; four grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Michael and Sharon Cox of Merritt Island, Fla., Chris and Susie Monroe of Shelby, Jeff and Shannon Holland of Charlotte and Dr. Chad and Kim Holland of Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Connie and Greg Kellar of Charlotte; three sisters, Irene Setzer of Claremont, Aileen Beal of Maiden and Maerelle Burris of Mount Holly; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Lucille Holland of Maiden; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. Max Burgin and the Rev. Joe Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Ben Littlejohn Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. Ben C. Littlejohn Jr., 39, of 309 Apt. A, Howell St., died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Dec. 5, 1960, the son of Louise Parker Littlejohn of Shelby and the late Ben C. Littlejohn Sr. He was a cook at Bellatoni's.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Anita Littlejohn of Florida and Mary Littlejohn of Shelby; two brothers, Larry L. Parker and John T. Littlejohn, both of Shelby; four nieces, Nikki Littlejohn and Dionne "Tracy" Littlejohn, both of Florida, Sharonda Cannon of Shelby and Essence Littlejohn of Cherryville; four nephews, Amorris Littlejohn of Florida, Devoshia Surratt, Corey Whitworth and Nick Maddox, all of Shelby; two great-nephews, Tyreze Littlejohn and Tyveze Littlejohn, both of Florida; and many other relatives.
The funeral will be today at 2:30 at Genesis Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Lillie Tate and Benjamen Gaffney officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Margaret Butler
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Margaret Ethel Padgett Butler, 99, of 320 Aqua Drive, died Monday, August 14, 2000, at Oakland Living Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Young and Dovie Jane Padgett. She was a retired salesperson for Waldrops Inc. of Forest City and a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Marvin Butler Sr., who died in 1952, and a son, James Sidney Butler, who died in 1997.
She is survived by two sons, James Marvin "Bud" Butler of Forest City and Max Padgett Butler of Shelby; two daughters, Louise Hill of Rutherfordton and Jacque Jolley of Forest City; and many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great -great grandchildren.
A private funeral will be Wednesday with the Revs. James Deihl and Shane Kirby officiating.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Forest Roland Love, 50, of 312 Possum Trot Road, died Monday, August 14, 2000, at his home.
A native of Gaffney, S.C., he was the son of Marvin Edgar and Ella J. McSwain Love. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church at Crowders Mountain. He was a fork lift operator at Overnite Transportation, a member of Masonic State Line Lodge No. 375 and a member of Grover Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Teresa Cash Love of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Forest Daniel and Anna Thigpen Love of Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Cristy Love and Gregory Allen Ramsey of Plano, Texas; a brother, Edgar Leroy Love; and one granddaughter.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with masonic rites with the Rev. Vernon Craig officiating.
Pallbearers will be Alan Crouch, Robert Clark, Rodney Burnette, Steve Granger, Mike Martin and Richard Jones.

John Lawrence
WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. John Elmore Lawrence, 83, of 1132 Hayes Forest Drive, died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Community Health Care.
Born December 21, 1916 to William O. and Kate Dunn Lawrence of Scotland Neck, he was a graduate of Wake Forest College, Wake Forest Law School and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity by Campbell College. After practicing law with the firm of the late U.S. Senator Willis Smith in Raleigh, he became the first full-time director of the Baptist Student Union work of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Navy for three and a half years during World War II and for two of those years also served as damage control officer aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Intrepid, in the Pacific Theater. For 35 years he served as minister to four churches: Little Flock Baptist Church, Sheperdsville, Ky., Sunset Park Baptist Church, Wilimington, First Baptist Church, Shelby and Forest Hills Baptist Church, Raleigh. He and his wife moved to the Baptist Retirement Home after his retirement in 1981. He continued to serve as interim and supply minister for churches in the area. He was a member of College Park Baptist Church. He was elected to serve as president of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention from 1969 to 1971 after serving as its vice-president for four separate years. He was vice-chairman of the General Board of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention where he was a member for eight years. He was chairman of the board at Gardner-Webb College, vice-chairman of the board at Mars Hill College and a member of the board of Campbell College. He was a trustee for Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 10 years. He was a director of the Home Mission Board and a member of the Brotherhood Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. While serving in Shelby, he was moderator for the Kings Mountain Baptist Association and in 1963 was the first chairman of the Human Relations Council in Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Laura Lawrence of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John E. Jr. and Dale Daniel Lawrence of Asheville; and four grandchildren, Laura Brooke Lawrence of Durham, Kate Richardson Lawrence of Chapel Hill, Jane Walker Lawrence of Chapel Hill and John Hamilton Lawrence of Durham.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at College Park Baptist Church, 1701 Polo Road, Winston-Salem with Dr. Charles Edwards and the Revs. Foy Martin, Luther Osment and Calvin Knight officiating.
The family will receive friends in the Smith Fellowship Hall at the church following the memorial service.

Robert Peeler Sr.
CORNELIUS - Mr. Robert Earl Peeler Sr., 82, of 20235 Rainbow Circle, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born July 24, 1918, the son of the late Randolph Theadore and Elvie E. Parker Peeler. He was retired from Duke Power Company after 39 years of service and was a former policeman for the City of Shelby. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church of Cornelius and a former member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Shelby, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Cleveland Masonic Lodge No. 202 of Shelby, a 32nd degree Mason with the Oasis Shrine Temple of Charlotte. He also played legion baseball and served in the Navy from 1942-45 during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Crawford Peeler and three brothers, Stough Peeler, Franklin Peeler and Walter Peeler.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Jr. and Dorothy Peeler of Denver; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne P. and Woodrow Wooten of Cornelius; a brother, Charles Peeler of Shelby; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert F. Hinman officiating.
Burial will follow at Kadesh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
