KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Virgie Dyke Hutchins, 86, of 512 N. Daytona Ave., Flagler Beach, Fla., formerly of Kings Mountain, died Friday, August 18, 2000.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Wallace officiating.

Martha Tilt
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mrs. Martha Fanning Tilt, 78, of 113 Heritage Circle, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, August 21, 2000, at her home.
A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Walter L. and Josie Carroll Fanning. She was a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She was a retired registered nurse, having worked as a nursing instructor at Shelby Memorial Hospital and in the office at Shelby Medical Associates.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. LeRoy W. Tilt Jr.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy W. III and Arlene Hilderbrant Tilt of Cambridge, Mass., Dr. Douglas C. and Sandra LeGrand Tilt of Birmingham and Kenneth M. and Reba Gold Tilt of Auburn, Ala.; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter L. Jr. and Ada Wall Fanning of Davidson; eight grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, LeRoy W. IV and Lori Reese Tilt, Charles T. Tilt, Michael J. Tilt, Andrew G. Tilt, Alex L. Tilt, Catherine C. Tilt, Lindsey C. Tilt and Rebecca D. Tilt; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Katherine Tilt.
A memorial service will be Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 at North Lake Country Club.

SHELBY - Mr. Thomas Lee "Tommy" Hoppes, 66, of 1016 S. Morgan St., died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth Wilson Hoppes. He was retired from Doran Textiles and was a member of Second Baptist Church, Shelby. He served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Hoppes Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Loftis Hoppes of the home; a son, Chadwick Hoppes of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Larry Coates of Boiling Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Noah and Martha Hoppes of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Nellie Sue and Bill Tessneer; two grandsons, Jonathan Hoppes and Kaleb Hoppes; and a granddaughter, Lillie Hoppes.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lily Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Arnold officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Llenwellyn Wilson Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. Llenwellyn Greely Wilson Jr., 48, of 709 Live Oak St., died Sunday, August 20, 2000, at his home.
Born August 18, 1952, he was the son of Llenwellyn Greely Wilson Sr. and the late Betty Lou Wilson-Manning.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving actively as an Army Seal for 15 years. A graduate of Crest High School, he was employed by PPG Industries for five years.
In addition to his father, he is survived by a stepmother, Betty Ree 'Sarah' Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a stepfather, Charlie Manning Sr. of Shelby; one sister and brother-in-law, Zeletia Renee Wilson and Derrick O. Stewart Sr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Dexter K. and Loresa Jones Wilson, Darryl Tony Wilson, Stevie L. Wilson, all of Brooklyn and Bernard Manning of Shelby; a grandfather, Cornell Wilson Sr. of Shelby; two uncles and their wives, Billy and Nancy Wilson of Kings Mountain and Cornell Jr. and Doris Wilson of Shelby; one aunt, Evangeline Wilson-Massey of Charlotte; and other relatives.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eskridge Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby with his
first cousin, the Rev. Lillian McDonald, from the New Creation Missionary Baptist Church of Charlotte, officiating.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Fahn Thongchanh, 55, of 413 Bell Road, died Saturday, August 19, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Mable Cansler
SHELBY - Mrs. Mable O. McKinney Cansler, 81, of 907 Wilmouth St., died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born March 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Tuck and Cora Wilson McKinney. A 1948 graduate of Green Bethel High School and a graduate from the Nursing program in 1977 from Cleveland Community College, she retired from White Oak Manor in 1994 where she worked in the dietary department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Cansler of Shelby; one sister, Coralue McKinney of Charlotte; three brothers, Yates McKinney, James McKinney and Leonard McKinney, all of Charlotte.
She is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Julius and Christine Cansler, Otis and Brenda Cansler, Earl and Eva Cansler, Bobby and Gina Cansler, all of Shelby, Donnie and Christin Cansler of Grover, Robbie and Deloris Cansler of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Alvin McKinney and Frank McKinney, both of New Jersey; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Withrow's Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services.
Audie Rayfield
BESSEMER CITY - Mr. William "Audie" Audry Rayfield, 61, of 780 Kiser Road, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be tonight at 7 at Greene Funeral Service, Westside Chapel, with the Rev. Arthur Beck officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
John Lee
BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. John Sidney Lee, 75, of 1816 Gaffney Road, died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Century Care of Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late David Sidney and Annie Lee Pearce Lee. He was employed as a machinist for 20 years at Dover Mill Company and later worked in the maintenance department of Cleveland Regional Medical Center and then moved to chief of maintenance at Crawley Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible study Sunday school class and head usher. He was leader of the 15- and 16-year-old training union class, Boiling Springs Scout troop No. 117 and organized the Explorer Post No. 117. He was a charter member of the Boiling Springs City Fire Department and served as a member for many years. He was a member of Friendship Masonic Lodge No. 388, where he served as secretary for three years and chaplain for five years. He was a former member of Boiling Springs Lions Club, where he received pins for getting the most new members during the 1980s. He received a certificate from the Danny Thomas Children's Cancer Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for making the best contributions from Boiling Springs Baptist Church Youth and community youth groups in 1981 and 1982. He helped organize the Boiling Springs Rescue Squad and served on the Board of Directors for several years. He was the leader of the Junior Police in Boiling Springs. He served four years in the Navy during World War II and two years in the Naval Reserve. He served as an electricians mate on board the Ottersetter Destroyer No. 244 in both the Atlantic and Pacific.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Lee and Wesley Lee; and four sisters, Elizabeth Lee McSwain, Margaret Lee Rollins, Sarah Ellen Lee and Julia Lee Peck.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Miriam Lipscomb Lee of the home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Carroll Page and the Rev. Elwood Orr officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
