CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Joe Clayton Frye, 63, of 2435 Island Ford Road, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was a son of the late Jesse Lee and Valoree Sarratt Frye. He retired from Cone Mills and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Brooks Frye of the home; three sons, Rick Frye of Shelby; Craig Frye of Boiling Springs, S.C., and Jeff Frye of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Sam Frye of Cliffside; three sisters, Margie Price of Cliffside, Viola Humphries of Forest City and Lois Moore of Ellenboro; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, with the Rev. Boyd Lattimore officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. William S. "Bill" Fulton Jr., 81, of 613 E. Ridge St., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late W. Sage Fulton Sr. and the late Vivian Ware Fulton. He retired as owner of Fulton's Department Store in Kings Mountain and was a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church, where he served as treasurer for 30 years, and as deacon, elder and trustee. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club for more than 45 years and earned a life membership. He served on the board of directors of First Federal Savings and Loan and Erskine College. He was a Shriner and a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lenora Fulton.
He is survived by three sons, W. S. "Corky" Fulton III and his wife, Barbara, of Kings Mountain, Carl G. Fulton of Hendersonville and James P. Fulton of Salisbury; and five grandchildren, Sage Fulton, Jennifer Fulton, Charlotte Fulton, Elizabeth Fulton and Catherine Fulton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church, with the Rev. Doug Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.

FALLSTON - Mrs. Stella Curtis Beam Funk, 90, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 22, 1910, in Texas, she was the daughter of the late Joshua Beam. She was a registered nurse and a lieutenant in the Navy. She was retired as a registered nurse from Broughton Hospital in Morganton. She was a member of Fallston Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Milton Funk.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Doris Funk of Fallston; a grandson, Mike Funk of Fallston; a granddaughter, Sherry F. Hunt; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Hunt, and stepgreat-grandson, Cory Hunt, all of Nebo; and two brothers, Blanch Beam of Morganton and Forrest Beam of Sacramento, Calif.
A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Fred Helms Jr., officiating.
The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. before the service.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Austin Victor Kennedy Jr., 60, of 348 Vic Randall Road, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
Born in Cleveland County Nov. 29, 1939, he was a son of the late A.V. Sr. and Maggie Corene Wallace Kennedy. He retired from the landscape division of the N.C. Department of Transportation and was a member of East Kings Mountain Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur C. Kennedy and Lee Kennedy; and three sisters, Linda Kennedy, Ruth Cooper and Dianne Kennedy.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur C. Kennedy of Kings Mountain and Ronnie and Nancy Kennedy of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tammy and Grady Patterson of Shelby and Kayron Wiseman of Muncie, Ind.; two brothers, Earl Kennedy of Lawndale and J.W. Kennedy of Shelby; three sisters, Thelma Sealey, Sue Powell and Jean Dover, all of Shelby; the mother of his children, Ansley Terry of Kings Mountain; two longtime family friends, Lucy Hope of Kings Mountain and Sheena Kennedy Anthony of Boiling Springs; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at East Kings Mountain Church of God, with the Rev. John Heath officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be at Wallace Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston. At other times, they will be at the home of Ronnie and Nancy Kennedy, 842 E. Green St., Shelby.

Billy Reinhardt Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. William Franklin "Billy" Reinhardt Jr., 35, of 906 Wyke Road, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born in Cleveland County Jan. 3, 1965, he was a son of William Franklin "Bill" Reinhardt Sr. and Juanita Robertson Reinhardt of Shelby. He worked as a motor winder for Electric Motor Co.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Orrie Reinhardt and Lester and Ollie Robertson.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, David and Shanna Reinhardt; and a niece, Sarah Elizabeth Reinhardt, all of Shelby; seven aunts and three uncles, Carolyn Lowery, Jenny and Gene Shull and Adeline Shields, all of Shelby, Curt and Charline Curtis of Lawton, Okla., Christine Robertson of Gaffney, S.C., Nancy Lowery of Toccoa, Ga., and Jim and Helen Webb of Woodbury, N.J.
A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Richard C. Clough Jr., officiating.

Otis Whitaker
SHELBY - Mr. Otis Gary Whitaker, 89, of 1038 Crawley Gin Road, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Gary and Maggie Walker Whitaker. He was a farmer and a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church, where he served as church custodian for more than 50 years. He also sang in the choir and was a former deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Petty Whitaker; four brothers, Fay Whitaker, Norman Whitaker, Sherman Whitaker and Carl Whitaker; and a sister, Sarah Lou Petty.
He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Luie and Mary Ann Whitaker, Myles and Doris Whitaker, Wayne and Mary Whitaker and Elmer and Millie Whitaker, all of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Ronnie Hamrick of Shelby; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, with Dr. Don McSwain and Myles Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GASTONIA - Mr. Charles Robert "Bob" Yarborough, 62, of 212 Woody Court, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

SHELBY - Mr. George Elliott Gold, 84, of 514 East Circle died Saturday, September 30, 2000 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans, Amvets and the Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Elliott and Ada Hoyle Gold; and two sisters, Addie Gold and Ruth Grigg.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Mauney Gold of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Gold Sappington and her husband, Bill, of Matthews, and Reba Gold Tilt and her husband, Ken, of Auburn, Ala; one son, Dale Gold of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Hoyle and Mary Gold of Shelby; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Sue and Horace Price of Belwood and Betty and Bill Daniels of Morganton; three grandsons, Mark Gold of Gastonia and Michael Tilt and Andrew Tilt of Auburn; and one granddaughter, Catherine Tilt of Auburn.
