Buford Lovelace
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Buford Barnett Lovelace, 62, of 105 Lovelace Road, No. 2, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover in Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of Eva Mae McNeely Lovelace of Kings Mountain and the late Barnett Glenn Lovelace. A retired plumber, he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church on Kings Mountain.
In addition this father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Lovelace.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Clifford Lovelace and Gene Lovelace of Kings Mountain; and a sister, Sarah J. Lovelace Runyans of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Caulder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Ruby Swink
SHELBY - Mrs. Ruby S. Swink, 90, of 605 E. Sanders Road, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at her home.
Born May 2, 1910, in Jackson County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Love Earnest and Alice Cruse Sailors. She was a homemaker and a member of Fallston Baptist Church, where she was formerly a Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Pink Swink; two sons, Preston Zeno Swink and Steve Swink; and two brothers.
She is survived by five sons, Pink Swink of Canton, Ga., Roy Swink of Anderson, S.C., Harold Swink of Morganton, Paul Swink and Ivan Swink, both of Lawndale; five daughters, Mrs. Russell Padgett of Charlotte, Mrs. Glenn Scruggs of Forest City, Mrs. Elizabeth Hannah of Rutherfordton, Mrs. Glenn Baker of Morganton and Mrs. Charles Anderson of Lenoir; a brother, Robert Sailors of Casar; two sisters, Mrs. Rizphy Wright of Fallston and Mrs. Lola Mae Hawkins of Cliffside; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Scott Norton and Bruce Rabon officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Kenneth Allen
SHELBY - Mr. Kenneth Brent Allen, 35, of 2506-C Blackburg Road, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Kenneth Jackson Allen and Kaye Dixon Allen Davis. He was a professional wrestler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandfather, William Brent Yates.
He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Rick Messick and Barbara and Keith Messick, all of Shelby; a brother, Scott Davis of Shelby; a daughter, Lola Lorenda Allen of Atlanta; a grandfather, Frank Allen of Grover; and a grandmother, Sue Yates of Grover.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating.
Burial will be at the Frank Allen family cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Debbie and Rick Messick, 107 Dundee Court, Shelby.

Vernon Owensby
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Vernon Lee Owensby, 66, of 508 Monroe Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Bennie and Beatrice Parrish Owensby. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Bessemer City, and worked in the textile industry.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Flowers Owensby; a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon L. "Chip" II and Sarah Owensby of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Libby O. and Tony Randall of Bessemer City; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Jack and Sarah Gassaway of Asheville; and five grandchildren, Nikki Owensby, Lee Owensby, Casey Owensby, Lea Randall and Hope Randall.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral Home with the Revs. Lynn Holcomb and Jack Gassaway officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Wesley C. Davis Jr., 75, of 106 Blair Lane, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Puett United Methodist Church, Dallas, with the Revs. Allan Van Meter and Larry Rowell officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Roger Turner
SHELBY - Mr. Roger Ben Turner, 63, of 2444 S. Post Road, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Corinne McSwain Turner and the late Ben Forest Turner. He was a salesman at Turners Auto Parts and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Lynn Turner.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen T. and Donnie Bivins of Shelby and Tammy T. and Chris Royster of Kernersville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eddie and Rhonda Turner of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Dale Turner of the home; two granddaughters, Haley Bivins of Shelby and Macie Turner of Elizabethtown; three grandsons, Donald Bivins of Shelby and Nicholas Turner and Zachary Turner of Elizabethtown; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Turner of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Revs. David Gordon, Jim Brackett and David Lucas officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home, 2444 South Post Road.

Jason Dobbins
MOORESBORO - Mr. Jason Dean Dobbins, 28, of 3460 McKinney Road, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of R. Dean and Gail Luckadoo Dobbins of Mooresboro. He worked as a superintendent with Glenn Williams Construction Inc., was a member of Goodes Grove Baptist Church and attended Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Boyd Luckadoo and Charles W. Dobbins, a grandmother, Faye Estep Dobbins, a grandmother-in-law, Nelle Smith, and a grandfather-in-law, Charles Hubbard.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Keri Michelle Smith Dobbins of the home; a son, Andy Dean Dobbins of the home; a grandmother, Joyce Luckadoo; father- and mother-in-law, W. Vaughn and Karen Smith; brother- and sister-in-law, Billy and Jenny Smith; a grandfather-in-law, Bill Smith, all of Mooresboro; grandmother-in-law, Margaret Hubbard of Lawndale; and special cousins and friends.
The funeral will be today at 2 at Trinity Baptist Church, with Dr. David Irish and the Revs. Buddy Morehead and Mike Fraizer officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Monday at Cleveland Funeral Services, and will receive friends at other times at 3455 McKinney Road, Mooresboro.

Lucinda McAbee
MORGANTON - Mrs. Lucinda Sisk McAbee, 47, of Morganton, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Grace Hospital.
A native of Gaffney, S.C., she was the daughter of Mary Helen Spake McCraw of Blacksburg, S.C., and the late James Bryant Sisk She was employed at Morganton Dyeing and Finishing Co.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Diane Self; and a brother, Jimmy Sisk.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Eugene McCraw of Blacksburg, S.C.; three sons, David Eugene Self and Larry Dewayne Self, both of Spindale, and Tommy Franklin Self of Morganton; two brothers, Donald Sisk of Holden Beach and Randy Sisk of Shelby; four sisters, Diane Cooper and Dixie Carol Drewy, both of Shelby, Patty Jo Wiley of Blacksburg, and Linda Mayfield of Gaffney; and three grandchildren, Billy Self, John Self and Samantha Self.
A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery, Fallston, with the Rev. Buster Griffin officiating.
The family received friends Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home.

Emily Kirby
SHELBY - Mrs. Emily "Nunnie" Blanton Kirby, 57, of 1405 Briarcliff Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob D. and Gazzie Short Blanton. She was retired from Cleveland County Mental Health and New Beginnings Daycare and was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church where she was a former Senior High Sunday School Teacher and Chancel Choir Member and supported Shelby High School football.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Kirby Sr.; and a sister, Melinda Blanton Jackson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robyn Kirby and Leland Kerr of Shelby; a stepson, Robert L. Kirby Jr. of Ellenboro; five stepgrandsons, Brooks Kirby, Forrest Kirby, Jeremy Kerr and Joel Kerr, all of Shelby, and Jason Kerr and his wife, Cindy, of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Sidney G. and Brenda Blanton of Shelby; a niece, Jennifer Blanton of Charlotte; and a nephew and his wife, Jody and Suzanne Blanton of Shelby.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Revs. Gervase Hitch, Keith Dixon, Leland Kerr and David Greene officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at Cleveland Funeral Services or at other times at the home, 1405 Briarcliff Road, Shelby.

Minnie Eplee
BOSTIC - Mrs. Minnie Belle Whiteside Eplee, 83, of Bostic-Sunshine Highway, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Henderson Care Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Bostic, with the Revs. Mike Ivey and Paul White officiating.
Burial will follow at Bostic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Crowe Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.

Hal Sweezy
LEBANON, Pa. - Mr. Hal M. Sweezy, 74, of 605 S. 8th St., died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at VA Medical Center, Lebanon.
Born July 27, 1926, in Shelby, he was the son of the late Elijah M. and Dolly Mae Gantt Sweezy. He retired as a printer after 14 years with the Lebanon Daily News. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and Myerstown Lions Club for 25 years, serving as president and secretary. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for six years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy H. Sweezy; his second wife, Marguerite Sweezy; three sisters, Clara Lee Sweezy, Mary Elizabeth McKee and Ann F. Sweezy; and a brother, Douglas D. Sweezy. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., Lebanon, Pa.

Bennie Finney
CINCINATTI - Mr. Bennie Finney, 73, of 2586 Lafeville Ave., died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Summitt Nursing Home.
A native of Jones County, Ga., he was the son of the late Jim and Lela Horne Finney. He was self-employed as a repairman. He was in the Korean Conflict and was a member of White Oak Springs Church.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Louise Holmes of Lawndale.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at White Oak Springs Church with the Rev. Gene Pryor officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church. Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maude McCurry
SHELBY - Mrs. Maude Rippy McCurry, 89, of 300 Lilly St., died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mae Nichols Rippy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Palmer McCurry; a daughter, Dorothy Irvin; two brothers, Frank Rippy and Connard Rippy; and four sisters, Bonita, Agnes, Leola and Yvonne.
She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Geraldine McCurry, Jack L. and Blanche McCurry and "Cooter" Ray McCurry, all of Shelby, and Billy Joe and Joann McCurry of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Bill Bailes of Shelby; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lutz-Austell Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Sailors officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of James McCurry, 701 Hillwood St., Shelby.

Alma Hamrick
NEWTON - Mrs. Alma Osteen Wall Hamrick, 80, of Newton, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at her home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Eldridge Herbert and Genevea Hanson Wall. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lincolnton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, James Wall, Julius Wall, E.H. Wall Jr., Joseph Wall, Howard Wall, Perry Wall and Grady Wall; and four sisters, Ruth Curry, Aileen Wall, Mildred Pearl Delaney and Polly Phillips.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Edd Hamrick; two daughters, Annie Hamrick of Icard and Connie Sisk of Hickory; two sons, Howard Dale Hamrick of Lincolnton and Thomas Buren Hamrick of Lincolnton; three sisters, Laurette Hamrick of Mount Holly, Edna D. Hamrick of Houston and Linda J. Price of Ellenboro; a brother, Olen D. Wall of Columbia, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Fred Hawkins and David Jones officiating.
Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Childers, Ed Sisk, Chris Sisk, Shane Hamrick, Jimmy Hamrick and Jessie Lail.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

Mary Spake
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Ruth Spake, 79, of 1216 Spake Circle, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mattie Sheppard Spake. She was a veteran of the Navy WAVEs, serving in World War II, and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
She is survived by six brothers and three sisters-in-law, Everette and Mildred Spake, Bobby and Faye Spake, John Ray and Edith Spake, Wesley Spake, Charles Spake and Henry Spake, all of Shelby; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth Smith and Martha Jane and J. Don Shields, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Brendle officiating.
Burial will follow at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
