Frank Bost
SHELBY - Mr. Frank A. Bost, 71, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000.
A native of Catawba County and formerly of Durham, he was a retired roofer and painter. He served in the U. S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. S. and Maude A. Bost; his wife, Marjorie Keen Bost; and a brother, John W. Bost.
He is survived by two sisters, Mozelle Darnell and Helen Hardin of Shelby; two brothers Ray Bost of Shelby and Ferrell D. Bost of Inman, S.C.
The funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Revs. Tommy Buchanan and Clarence Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Albert Parks Jr.
LAWNDALE - Mr. Albert Parks Jr., 62, of 119 Schenck Farm Road, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Rev. Early and Lillie Mae Hopper Parks. He retired from Shelby Dye and Finishing and was previously employed by Fiber Industries. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Albert Lewis Parks, and four brothers, Walter, Henry, E. P. and Eugene Parks.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Doshia Beam Parks; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Janie Parks, Leon and Ruby Parks, all of Shelby, and the Rev. Keith Parks of Lawndale; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Edna and Donald Hillman, Sarah and Larry Dawkins and the Revs. Eloise and Albert Hillman, all of Kingstown, and Lisa Parks of Cherryville; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Gracie Parks of Lawndale, Early and Ella Mae Parks of Dayton, Ohio, and J. V. Parks of Shelby; two sisters, Emma Mae Perkins of Shelby and Mattie Mae Robinson of Cleveland; three grandchildren whom he raised, Chad Parks, Dewan'ta Parks and Zachary Hillman; nine other grandchildren, Shavone Hillman, Angelic Hillman, Michele Hillman, Christoper Parks, Jeramie Parks, Jacqueline Parks, Christin Parks, Jasmine Parks and Kalia Dawkins; two great-grandchildren, Chandra Parks and Dashawn Hillman.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p. m. at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Thurston Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Myra Berry Bost
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Myra Berry Bost, 83, of 12 Howell Circle, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000.
Born in Morganton, she was a daughter of the late Forrest Commodore and Zeppie Mae Beck Berry. She retired from Proctor's Shoes in retail sales and was a member of Edwards Road Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bennett Bost Jr., and two sisters, Margaret Proctor and Ethel Huntley.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, James and Brenda Bost Heaney of Columbia, S.C., and Bruce and Jean Bost Moore of Kingsport, Tenn.; a nephew, Roy Finesey and his wife, Betty, of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, James White, Andrea Haygood and Russell Haygood; four great grandchildren; and special caregivers, Carolyn Cabaniss, Shirley Georgeff, Jo Looper and Joanne Townsend.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. in Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, with the Rev. Ramon Presson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the chapel from 2 to 3 p.m.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation, 1314 Spring St., N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309.
The Mackey Mortuary of Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

William Church
NEBO - Mr. William Enoch Church, 81, of 6793 N.C. Highway 126, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at McDowell Hospital in Marion.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Clyde W. and Allie Fields Church. He retired as a construction worker. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cash Church.
He is survived by two sons, the Rev. Eddie Church of Ellenboro and Paul Church of Dawsonville, Ga.; four daughters, Priscilla Silvers of Forest City, Judy Cross of Greenville, S.C., Naomi Sewell of Duluth, Ga., and Merry C. Church of Norcross, Ga.; one brother, Robert Church of Ellenboro; one sister, Lucille Church of Forest City, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Victory Temple Church, with the Revs. Walker Toney and Jim Gaddy officiating. Burial will be in the Church of God Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside. At other times, the family will be at the home of grandson Mark Church, Harmony Grove Road, Nebo.

Jack Cogdell
SHELBY - Mr. Jack Edward Cogdell, 63, of 1161 Granite Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Broadus Dewey Cogdell and the late Mary Vashtie Causby Jones. He was a retired truck driver who worked for Bost Bakery and Triple D Publishing. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Union Baptist Church in Polkville.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Russ Cogdell; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Dewey Cogdell and Joe Cogdell of Shelby, Wayne and Dee Cogdell of Monroe, and Michael and Tammy Cogdell of Shelby; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lutz-Austell Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Barry Goodman officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Cleveland County Unit, P.O. Box 2391, Shelby, NC 28151-2391.

Rebecca Goforth
GASTONIA - Mrs. Rebecca Wearn Goforth, 73, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Century Care of Gastonia.
A homemaker, she was a native of Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late George Alexander and Elaine Moose Wearn. She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and Peace College in Raleigh. She was a member of Linwood Presbyterian Church in Gastonia.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer Etters Goforth, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan G. and Lester Denny of Greensboro; and two sons, Preston H. Goforth of Gastonia and Mark D. Goforth of Lincolnton.
The funeral is today at 11 a.m. at Linwood Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jerry Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family received friends Sunday at McLean Funeral Directors.

Norma Heatherly
CHIMNEY ROCK - Mrs. Norma Lucille Keeter Heatherly, 82, of Terrace Drive, formerly of Gilkey, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital.
A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Chimney Rock Baptist Church Cemetery, with Dr. Susan A. Bennett officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Maggie Hullender
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Maggie Davis Hullender, 90, of 906 Sherwood Lane, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late R.M. and Mattie Freeman Davis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Family Worship Center, Church of God in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Jonas Hullender; two brothers, Grayson Davis and Frank Davis; and six sisters, Carrie Grigg, Lillie Ford, Mary Fipps, Mamie Sipes, Lorie Davis and Della Foster.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Margaret Hullender of Kings Mountain and Joe and Mary Hullender of Cherryville; a daughter, Katherine Davis of Cherryville; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Kings Mountain Family Worship Center, with the Rev. Roger Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Carla Cobb
SHELBY - Mrs. Carla Ann Putnam Cobb, 45, of 2107 Cedar Circle Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Putnam.
She is survived by her father, Clyde E. Putnam of the home; her husband of 29 years, Wesley E. Cobb of the home; two sons, Christopher Cobb and Rodney Cobb of the home; a brother, Ernie Putnam of Pageland, S.C.; a stepsister, Keesha Putnam; a daughter-in-law, Misty Cobb; grandson, Jonathan Cobb; and granddaughter, Brandy Cobb, all of the home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Christ the King Church, with the Rev. Vernon Moore officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Freddie Jefferies, 63, of 240 W. Grover St., Apt. 5, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home.

Charles Strickland
ELLENBORO - Mr. Charles Calvin Strickland, 83, of 1355 Old Hwy. 74, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at N.C. Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill.
A native of Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Henry Holmes and Ivy Parker Strickland. He served in the Army during World War II, participating in the invasion of Normandy. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Forest City Masonic Lodge and Ellenboro Woodmen of the World. He started Strickland Grading Co. in 1956, operating it with his four sons since that time.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Melton Strickland of the home; four sons, Larry Strickland of Rutherfordton, Bill Strickland, Doug Strickland and Mike Strickland, all of Ellenboro; a daughter, Linda Philbeck of Ellenboro; two brothers, Thomas Holmes Strickland of Charleston and Waldo Clifton Strickland of Sylva; three sisters, Belle Beasley of Moncks Corner, S.C., Ruth Stewart of Four Oaks and Camille Carter of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, Melissa Cooper, Tony Strickland, Jennifer Tate, Brooke Kelly, Kim Philbeck, Casey Strickland, Brandon Philbeck, Dustin Strickland and Macey Strickland; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Cooper, Jordan Strickland, Kandace Cooper and Nicholas Calvin Strickland.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, Forest City, with the Revs. Ad Hopper and Owen Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Claywood Hopper, 81, of 400 Wilson St., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Clarence and Tena Jefferies Hopper. He retired from Dover Textiles and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Providence Masonic Lodge II in Shelby and of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Charles Hopper.
He is survived by four sons, Harold Hopper, Harvey Hopper, Lavanda Hopper and Dwight Hopper, all of Shelby; one daughter Deborah V. Jackson of Shelby; two daughters-in-law, Vivian Hopper and Christie Hopper of Shelby; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. S. A. Raper officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

HICKORY - Ms. Georgia Hill, 68, of 335 3rd St., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center.

William Smith
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. William Taft Smith, 92, of 228 Flint Hill Road, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his home.
Born July 17, 1908, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Lemuel "L.G." and Florence Costner Smith. He was retired owner and operator of Cherryville Concrete Products, Inc. He served in the Army in the Burma Theater during World War II. He was a member of the Nondenominational Protestant Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Thelma Clawson Smith and Carrie Stone Smith; an infant son; two brothers, Thurman Smith and Warren Smith; and three sisters, Lottie Mae Williams, Thelma Smith and Ruth Crocker.
He is survived by a stepdaughter and her husband, Carol L. and John C. Baker of Princeton, W.Va.; a stepson and his wife, Robert L. Jr. and Retha Little of Nicholasville, Ky.; two brothers, Hal Smith of Apopka, Fla., and D.L. Smith of Kings Mountain; a sister, Elva McGinnis of Cherryville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home with Tom Nussbaum and Slade Bend officiating.
Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
