SHELBY - Mrs. Joanne Correll Connelly Shepherd, 67, of 722 W. Sumter St., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Asbury and Beulah Clark Connelly. She was retired from First Union, where she worked as a teller. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alden Connelly and Clark Connelly; and one sister, Sarah Katherine Newman.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Robert and Lou Ann Shepherd of Raleigh; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tony McKenzie of Charlotte; one brother and sister-in-law, Irvin and Helen Connelly of Berea, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Anne McDowell Connelly of Morganton; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Delores Queen officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Patricia Pope
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Patricia G. Pope, 54, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Sanford, she was the daughter of Johnsie Jones Gattis of Laurel Hill and the late John Allen Gattis. She grew up in Red Springs, where she graduated from Red Springs High School. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pope.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Joe Lee Cottrell Jr. of Charlotte and Douglas Wayne Cottrell of Lumberton; two brothers, John Robert Gattis of Laurel Hill and Kenneth Gattis of Fayetteville; and seven grandchildren, Eric Douglas, Ayla Lee Marie and Miranda Joe Cottrell, Brittany Renee, Amber Marie and Tracy Erica Jones and Jamison Keith Locklear.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Sessom, Chaplain of Hospice of Cleveland County, officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at the graveside following the service.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Vernon P. "Pat" Crosby (Ottie Renette White), 80, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, at her residence.
A memorial service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Carriage Club in Charlotte with the Rev. Richard Newsome officiating. A graveside service was today at 11 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family received friends after the graveside service today.

PASSAIC, N.J. - Mr. Felton Bebee, 80, of 96 Central Ave., died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999.
The funeral was Sunday at 5 p.m. at Williams Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Passaic.
The family will have a private graveside service at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Ramona Briscoe
SPINDALE - Mrs. Ramona W. Briscoe, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of Sue Walker of Spindale and the late Raymond H. Walker. She was a member of Southern Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years and she led the youth program for many years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Dan Briscoe of Forest City; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Nickie Briscoe of Spindale; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Vickie Briscoe of Spindale, Renee B. and Matt Brinton of Shelby and Christie B. and John F. McMahan II of Rutherfordton; one brother, Freddie Walker of Seneca, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Matthew Brinton, Natalie Brinton, Danielle Brinton, Mackie McMahan, Jesse McMahan, D.J. Briscoe and Ashley Briscoe.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. John Perry Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Rutherford County, she was born the daughter of the late George Washington and Nora Phillips Aldridge. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Carl R. Baynard of the home; one son, Rick C. Baynard of Rutherfordton; two daughters, Teresa Kesterson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Carlotta Wilkerson of Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, George V. Aldridge of Lancaster, S.C.; two sisters, Monnie Buckner of Forest City and Mary Godfrey of Rutherfordton; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Sepaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Mr. Charles W. Lassiter, 67, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at his residence. He was a native of Evening Shade, Ark. He was a veteran of the Navy and was employed with Redstone Arsenal Army Missile Command for 33 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Tesseneer Lassiter of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Diane Tanner of Birmingham, Ala.; three sons, Michael Lassiter of Grant, Ala., Jerry Lassiter of Montgomery, Ala., and Brian Lassiter of Birmingham; two sisters, Glenna Faye Arnold of Lafayette, Ind. and Virginia Dean Hatch of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, Rex Don Lassiter of Conway, Ark.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville with Don Tanner officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Memorial Park in Madison, Ala.

MOORESBORO - Mrs. Gwendolyn Head Ellis, 43, of 718 Sandy Run Church Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Annette Lankford Head of Shelby and the late Bobby Head Jr. She was worked as a lieutenant for Security Forces Corporation at PPG. She was a member of Christopher Road Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Ellen Williams of Lawndale; one daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and Hasson Bright of Shelby; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Mike Head of Mooresboro and Bill and Judy Head of Shelby; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Kathy Deaton and Renee and Eddie Sisk, both of Shelby; two grandsons, Brandon Williams and Kaleb Bright; one granddaughter, Madison Williams; and a friend, Max Terry.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Neal Efird officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

ELIZABETH CITY - Mr. Carl Richard Walker Sr., 72, of 614 Alton St., died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Albemarle Hospital.
A native of Shelby, he was the son of the late Guy McKinley and Edna Viola Peters Walker. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force after 26 years of service. He was a member of the D.A.V., Chowan Country Club in Edenton and Masonic Lodge No. 590 F and AM. He was a veteran, having served in the Air Force and the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Krupa Walker of the home; one daughter Rhonda Szapiel of Boston, Mass.; three sons, Carl R. Walker Jr. of Elizabeth City, Eric W. Walker of Swiftwater, Pa. and Ian T. Walker of Isle of Palms, S.C.; one sister, Helen Hawkins of Shelby; one brother, David Walker of Shelby; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held today at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Bailey officiating.

A native of Boston, Mass., he was the son of Dorothea Mueller Murray of Plainville, Mass. and the late Norbert W. Murray. He was a retired financial officer and general manager of Azdel, Inc. He served in the Navy.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his former wife, Patricia Garland Murray of Grover; two daughters and one son-in-law, Christina Murray of Gastonia and Sara Murray and James Rippey of Grover; one brother, Stephen Murray of Medway, Mass.; one sister, Patricia Guerrini of Mansfield, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Samantha Rippey and Noah Murray.
