Vassie Williams
VALE - Mrs. Vassie Lee Houser Williams, 91, of 8359 Macedonia Church Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County, she was born July 23, 1909, to the late Tola E. and Della Mae Leatherman Houser. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Williams; a son, Howard Williams; five brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Georgetta Williams of Vale and Buford and Elaine Williams of Ronda; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Clara and Grady Pruette, Della and Rayford Upton, all of Vale, Janice Cook of Cherryville and Phyllis Greene of Shelby; two brothers, Onzie Houser and Elton Houser, both of Vale; four sisters, Veda Willis of Cramerton, Kimmie Leatherman of Lincolnton, Annie Canipe of Vale and Ollie Pendleton of Cherryville; 33 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Willis and Ernest Speagle officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Henry Capps
SHELBY - Mr. Henry Capps, 77, of 1228 North Lafayette St., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Seneca, S.C., he was the son of the late Sloan and Myrtle Graham Capps. He was retired from Ora Mill Co. and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ollie Canipe Capps of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Chun-Sik Capps of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lena and Steve Greene of Shelby; three sisters, Louise Hardin of Gastonia, Mildred Rochester of Gaffney, S.C., and Elizabeth Brown of Grover; three grandchildren, Kerry Winfrey, Dakota Terry and Sara Greene; and a great-grandchild, Aaron Winfrey.
A graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Pat Jobe officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 1228 N. Lafayette St.

LINCOLNTON - The Rev. Sister Glynn Elizabeth Ramseur Cansler, 73, of 1221 East Pine St., formerly of 1203 Georgetown Road, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Lincoln Nursing Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Moore's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Gregory Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Hollybrook Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.

Martha Biggerstaff
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Martha Byers Biggerstaff, 77, of 7908 Valley Falls Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late James Harrison and Annie Ella Johnson Byers. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Wilber E. Biggerstaff of the home; three sisters, Gladys B. Jones of Spartanburg, Marty B. Meehan of Oxhard, Calif., and Bertha Frank Eaker of Lawndale; and a special nephew and his wife, Billy and Patricia Byers of Kings Mountain.
Services were held Wednesday at J.F. Floyd Mortuary North Church Street Chapel.
Entombment will be today at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum, Boiling Springs.
The family received friends after the funeral at the chapel.

SHELBY - Ms. Lottie Proctor Whitener, 66, of 217 Victory Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Annie Mae Proctor. She was the manager of Shelby Seafood and a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Costner, Delores Whitener and Mary and Tracy Pressley, all of Shelby; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Zebulon Vance Whitener of Shelby and Steven and Denise Whitener of Patterson Springs; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Wendy Burns of Lawndale; nine grandchildren, Daniel Costner, Lavonda Hopper, Amber Lacasse and Elizabeth Lacasse, Shea White and Joshua White, all of Shelby, Joey Phillips of Patterson Springs and Brandon Pressley and Garron Pressley, both of Kings Mountain; four great-grandchildren, Katlin Burns, Baylee Burns, Blake Spangler and Cierra Hopper; a former husband, John L. Whitener; four sisters, Willie Proctor, Helen McCurry, Reba Toney and Shirley Lovelace; three brothers, Sammy Proctor, Dewey Proctor and Robert Proctor; an aunt, Sue Yates; and special lifelong friends, John F. O'Leary and Doris Duncan.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Waters and John Ware officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Ella Burnette
POLKVILLE - Miss Ella Lee Burnette, 94, of Canton, formerly of Polkville, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home.
A native of Greenwood County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late David Lee and Nannie Flinn Burnette. She was a retired school teacher for North Carolina Schools, where she taught first in Waco and then in Kannapolis. She retired in 1970 and moved to Polkville. She was a member of Polkville Baptist Church and the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Burnette and Marion Flinn Burnette; and two sisters, Louise Burnette Whisnant and Gertrude Burnette Lattimore.
She is survived by a sister, Myrtle Burnette Smith of Greenville, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Bold Springs Baptist Church, Greenwood, S.C.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

SHELBY - Mrs. Lones Mae Olglesby Sanders, 74, of 209 Claytenna St., died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Country Time Inn, Kings Mountain.
Born November 29, 1925, a native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late William E. Oglesby and Mattie Lipscomb Oglesby.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, T.B. Oglesby, a sister, Christina O.Wilson and a raised as sister, Annie Mae W. Fuller.
She is survived by her husband, Jonah Sanders; three sons and daughters-in-law, Amon Jonah and Louticia Sanders, Terry Dean Sanders, Wilbert Edgar and Jackie Sanders; four daughters and sons-in-law, Violet S. and James Michael, Louise S. and Joe Maddox, Retener S. and Larry Watts, and Regina S. and J.W. Woods Jr.; two brothers, O.C. Oglesby and Douglas Oglesby; three sisters, Christory O. Haywood, Nina O. McCluney and Armitte O. Garrison; and raised as sister, Ellen W. Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will Saturday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Earl with the Rev. S.A. McClain officiating.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Ersten "Buck" Watterson, 78, of 1104 Linwood Road, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Lester Sr. and Frances Mercer Watterson. He attended Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, and was a member of American Legion, Otis D. Green Post No. 155, and a member of the Century Club at Lithium Corp. He was retired from Lithium Corp. and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the 379th Bomb Group in England.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie McCourtie Watterson, and a brother, William Watterson Jr.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Tommy Ledford of Kings Mountain and Lynda and Terry Osborne of Mooresville; a brother, George "Bobby" Watterson of Carrouthersville, Md.; a sister, Laura White of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren, Kimberly Ellis of Mooresville, Karen Ledford, Phillip Ledford, Teresa Ledford and Jessica Ledford, all of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Ellis and Cameron Ellis.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dale Swofford officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
