Elizabeth Eskridge
HOUSTON - Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards Eskridge, 93, of 2501 Westerland Drive, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Houston.
A native of Scotland Neck in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late John Burton and Ella Harrington Edwards. She was a graduate of Meredith College and a teacher in Shelby City Schools. She was a board member of the Florence Crittendon Home in Charlotte and the Cleveland Country Club and a charter member of the Reviewers Book Club. She was a member and a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church, Shelby and a volunteer at Cleveland Regional Medical Center for years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Eskridge.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert Jr. and JoAnne Eskridge of Houston; a daughter, Jeanne Eskridge Griffiths of Chapel Hill; a grandson, Charles Robert Eskridge III of Houston; three granddaughters, Lisa Eskridge Trahan of Houston, Meg Griffiths Gillikin of Morehead City and Ellen Griffiths Smith of St. Louis; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Eskridge of Houston.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Shelby, with the Rev. Robert Dimmick officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Cleveland County Memorial Library, 104 Howie Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Randy Pearson
SHELBY - Mr. Randy Lee Pearson, 50, of 1442 Arlee Drive Lot 25, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 18, 1950, in Cleveland County, he was the son of Roy L. Pearson of Grover and the late Clarene Canipe Pearson. He was a former truck driver for Universal Manufacturing. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Shelby, and was a musician.
In addition to his father, he is survived by three sons, Joey Pearson, Joshua Pearson and Mark Blanton, all of Shelby; a daughter, Carrie Ann Cooper of Shelby; a stepdaughter, Misty Toney Potter of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Chris Pearson of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Ken Blanton of Fallston; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister, 2811 Royster Road, Shelby.

Dorothy Withrow
SALISBURY - Mrs. Dorothy Moore Withrow, 82, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 15, 1918, in Bostic, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd L. and Lola Benson Moore. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School in Forest City and attended Boiling Springs College in Boiling Springs. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wilkesboro Baptist Church in Wilkesboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Durham Withrow.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Earl Withrow of Statesville and John Durham Withrow Jr. of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Shirley W. Asa of Salisbury and Patricia W. Gima of Milwaukee; a sister, Sibyl Moore Dellinger of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church.

James Spencer
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James Edward Spencer, 58, of 2100 County Line Road, died on Oct. 31, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was born Feb. 28, 1942, the son of the late Clyde Jackson and Flossie Mae Spencer. He was a member of Love Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ella Black and Lanell Brendle; and a granddaughter, Samantha Baldock.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Gail Spencer; four sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Pam Spencer of Dallas, Lee and Donna Phillips of Gastonia, James Spencer Jr. of Grover and Tyler Spencer of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Laronda and Thomas Baldock of Kings Mountain; seven grandchildren, Brandi Moses of Kings Mountain, Brooke Spencer and Kaci Spencer, both of Dallas, Christopher Spencer of Clover, S.C., Dru Anderson, Alec Phillips and Tyler Phillips, all of Gastonia; a brother, Clyde Spencer of Kings Mountain; and three sisters, Mary Barnes, Nancy Anthony and Sybil Smith, all of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Love Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Philbeck, Jerry Allen and Kenny Lane officiating.
Burial will follow at Westview Gardens.
Pallbearers are Larry Gaddis, Jerry Hughes, Mark Rogers, James Bridges, Chuck Mayberry and Jay Jones. Honorary palbearers include David Siegle, Johnny Freedman, Greg White, Kelly McDaniel and John Saybine.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. John Martin Lynn, 86, of 833 Sparrow Springs Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Wayne Kirk and Jonathan Jones officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Deck Alexander Lovelace, 82, of Heritage Village Apartment 16, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Harmon Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Rape and Tom Frady officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery.

Elbert Lipsey Sr.
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mr. Elbert Lipsey Sr., 89, of 47 Beltline Courts, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Gaffney.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with the Revs. Timothy Lipsey, Barry Goodman and Dr. Edward McAbee officiating. Burial will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service, Gaffney, and at other times at the home of Elbert Lipsey Jr., 304 Springwood Drive, Gaffney.

Betty Eskew
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Kidd Eskew, 70, of 419 Darwin Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Rollie B. and Etta Black Ledge Kidd. She was a homemaker and a member of Draytonville Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thomas Eskew.
She is survived by a stepson, Edwin Earl "Rusty" Eskew of Shelby; a special niece, Christi Hales of Charlotte; two sisters, Maxine Camp of Burlington and Carolyn Brown of Rockwell; her mother-in-law, Inez Ware Eskew of Shelby; a sister-in-law, Linda Eskew Whiteside of Shelby; and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Ararat Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the home and Saturday an hour before the service at the church fellowship hall.

John Walker
FLUSHING, Mich. - Mr. John Worth Walker, 72, of Flushing, Mich., died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1928, in Casar, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nettie Walker. He served as an officer of Teamsters Local 614 in Pontiac, Mich., for many years and retired as president in 1985. A corporal in the Army, he was a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict and a prisoner of war.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul Walker, Pink Walker, J.C. Walker, Wayne Walker and Dean Toney, and three sisters, Edith Brackett, Kathryn Sansing and Ruth Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Orr Walker; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Terry Walker; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Poole and Terry and Tim Kalfs; two sons, John and Joe; three grandsons, Braxton, Cliff and Kenny; three granddaughters, MacKenzie, Angi and Amber; and three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Randi and Samantha.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Reigle Funeral Home Sunset Chapel, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, with Dr. Joseph Fortna officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, Mich.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

ST. PARIS, Ohio - Mrs. Patricia McSwain Everett, 62, of 103 Rupolo St., St. Paris, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Mary Guffey
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Edith Murry Guffey, 78, of 3210 Fallston-Waco Road, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late W.C. and Eva Sisk Murry. She was retired from the dietary department of Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Amvets Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Guffey; and a brother-in-law, David Lowrance.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Elaine Guffey of Shelby; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kaye and Bill Hartman of Fallston, Jackie and Steve Calaway of Winston-Salem and Louise and Charlie Keller of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother and sister-in-law, W.C. and Ruth Murry of Shelby; a sister, Martha Lowrance of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jack Cooke and Dean Smith officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Cora Bridges
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Cora Williams Brooks Bridges, 106, of 111 Harrilson Road, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Carolina Care Center.
A native of Hall County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late David and Nancy Elliott Williams. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Shelby City Schools and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Bridges; seven brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. and Aileen Brooks of Greer, S.C., and Paul E. and Matrel Brooks of Guntersville, Ga.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Elsie Mae and Lloyd Rabb of Shelby, Lucille Owens of Greensboro and Gertrude Washburn of Cherryville; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Wallace and David Rabb officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Lloyd and Elsie Rabb, 1012 Hardin Drive.
