Etta Wright
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Etta McDaniel Jones Wright, 91, of 156 Zeno McKinney Road, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Autumn Care of Forest City.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Edward L. and Janie Lail McDaniel. She was a retired nursing home dietician and a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Flay Jones and her second husband, Floyd Wright.
She is survived by three sons, Max Jones and Harold Jones, both of Ellenboro and Tommy Wright of Shelby; one daughter, Newell Jones Vess of Caroleen; one brother, Edward McDaniel of Ellenboro; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Revs. Curtis Gilstrap and David Blizzard officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Julian Roseboro
SHELBY - Mr. Julian Tyjuan Roseboro, 22, of 714 Congress St., died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
He was the son of Donald and Elaine Roseboro of Gaffney, S.C.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Tyasia Meeks of Gaffney; one brother, James Roseboro of the home; one sister, Danielle Roseboro of the home; two grandmothers, Alsona Carpenter of Shelby and Elizabeth Thompson of Forest City; two aunts; two uncles; and many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at New Ellis Baptist Church in Shelby with the Rev. A.E. Ponder and Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Cemetery in Shelby.

Olen Ledford
SHELBY - Mr. Olen Odus Ledford, 76, of 1101 N. Morgan St., formerly of Lawndale, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Century Care of Shelby.
He was the son of the late Odus and Katie Rowe Ledford. He was retired from Sunbeam Bakeries of Shelby, where he worked as a truck driver. He was a member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a Marine. He served in World War II in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David Ledford, Willard Ledford and Raymond Ledford; and two sisters, Opal Smith and Inez Hoover.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Johnnie Bostic of Polkville and Sheila and Doug Jolley of Denver; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Talmadge and Bea Ledford of Valdese and Helen Ledford and Ruby Ledford, both of Shelby; two sisters, Katie "Kitty" Cook and O.V. "Peg" Wright, both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Kava Jolley of Denver, Johnnie Bostic II of Greenville, Heather Dickson of Raleigh, Shelley Bostic of Polkville and Chandra Jolley of Denver; and two great-grandchildren, Chance Dickson and Forrest Jolley.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Wallace officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Katie Cook, 402 Charles Road, Shelby.

SHELBY - Mrs. Hazel Willis London, 77, of 825 Hamrick St., died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Euri Abi and Zuda Ellen Mull Willis. She was retired from Shelby City Schools where she taught. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. She was a member of the NEA and the NCAE.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Willis and Clyde Willis, and one sister, Vangie Young.
She is survived by her husband, Datha London; one daughter and son-in-law, Lougenia "Lou" and Michael B. Johnston of Fayetteville; one son and daughter-in-law, Datha Gary and Paula London of Clemmons; one sister, Lois Young of Cherryville; and three grandchildren, Adam Jackson, Meredith Jackson and Elizabeth London.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church with the Revs. Gervase Hitch and Bill Pheagin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Franklin Ballenger
SHELBY - Mr. Franklin Alexander Ballenger, 74, of 3031 Charles Road, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.
A native of Greenville County, S.C., he was the son of the late George Franklin and Bessie Lee Sheppard Ballenger. He retired from the Shelby Daily Star where he was the sports editor. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby. He attended Furman University. He was previously employed as sports editor with the Greenville News and Index Journal. He was employed as a journalist for the Cleveland Times.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Boyd Ballenger; one daughter, Pamela Jo Ballenger; and two brothers, W.H. Ballenger and G.E. Ballenger.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Jackie Ballenger of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginny and Alan Harris of Boiling Springs and Katherine and Jonathan Carpenter of Gastonia; five grandsons, Boyd Harris, Alex Ballenger, Drew Carpenter, Eli Carpenter and Joshua Carpenter; and four granddaughters, Keely Harris, Megan Harris, Jamie Ballenger and Morgan Carpenter.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Webb Chapel at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Davenport and Dr. Robert Canoy officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Eugene Navey
GASTONIA - Mr. Eugene Carlo Navey, 69, of 2621 Fairgreen Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Benjamin and Vera Arnold Navey. He was an Army veteran. He retired from Colonial Stores Bakery in Charlotte. He was employed with the Pantry Stores in Gastonia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Navey.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Poston Navey; one son, Michael E. Navey of Gastonia; one grandson, Joshua Navey; three brothers, Darryl Navey of Shelby, Arnold Navey of South Carolina, and Gerald Navey of Kings Mountain; and one sister, Elizabeth Monteith of Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel at Carothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherman Branch officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

Mary Parrish
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Mary Tucker Parrish, 90, of The Carriage Club, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999.
She was born on March 10, 1909, in Plymouth, the daughter of the late Peter Ernest and Mary Tucker Davenport. She was a teacher in the Shelby school district and later became a speech therapist. She was a member of the Women's Democratic Party and an honorary life member of the Young Democratic Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Charlotte.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Carver Parrish of Smithfield in August of 1987.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Martha Parrish of Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be tonight at 7 at The Carriage Club with the Rev. Roger Lakatos, chaplain of The Carriage Club, officiating. Burial will follow Thursday at 4 p.m. at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh with Dr. Harold Bales officiating.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Allines Barnes, 87, of Colonial Oaks Apartments, No. 2, Academy Street, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Miles E. and Della Cosby Borders. She was a former member of Washington Baptist Church in Waco and later joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cherryville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elbert Griggs; her second husband, Elmore Barnes; two sons, Miles Elbert Griggs and Charles James Griggs; three sisters, Lelia Oates, Jessie Mauney and Margurete Geter; and two brothers, Doris Borders and Hilliard Borders.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Austin Griggs of Waco, William Hugh Griggs of Hickory and Randy Louis and Emery Griggs of Shelby; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Leroy Hopper of Shelby, Willie Mae Patterson of Cherryville, Lolita Fernanders of Gastonia, Curryline and Carl Merritt and Elizabeth Wilson, all of Hickory; four sisters, Johnnie Wilson, Sudie Bell Webber and Lolita Howell, all of Shelby, and Juanita Howell of Cleveland, Ohio; 43 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday 30 minutes before the service at the church.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Catherine Mathis Waldrop, 77, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral was today at 11 a.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Harris officiating. Burial followed at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family received friends today one hour before the service at the funeral home.

KINGSTOWN - Mrs. Dinnie Margaret Hoyle Hopper, 92, of 2139 Kingston Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Marion, she was the daughter of the late Rena Hoyle. She was a member of Ramseur Baptist Church where she was the Mother of the Church. She was a member of the Community Club and the Order of the Eastern Star S.H. Witherspoon Chapter No. 75.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hopper; five sons, Benjamin Hopper, Ernest Hopper, Leonard Hopper, Nathaniel Hopper and William Hopper.
She is survived by three sons and four daughters-in-law, Verlie Hopper of Shelby; David and Teresa Hopper, Jesse and Vernie Hopper, Annie Williams Hopper, all of Lawndale and Emma Thurman Hopper of Shelby; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dorothy H. Walls of Shelby and Edahlia H. and Donald Schenck of Lawndale; 42 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; and 71 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Ramseur Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Ramseur officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

LOVE VALLEY - Mr. Johnny Bruce Philbeck, 29, of 195 Penny Lane, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at his residence.
He was born on July 12, 1970, in Henderson, Ind. He was a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Smith Philbeck and Carrie Elizabeth Philbeck, and his maternal grandmother, Thelma P. Humphries.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Hefner Philbeck of Union Grove; one son, Jacob Taylor Philbeck of Union Grove; his father and stepmother, John and Lori Philbeck of Olin; his mother and stepfather, Linda and Jerry Shulenberger of Statesville; four sisters, Rhonda Philbeck Lloyd and Stacy Philbeck Gregory, both of Statesville, Helen Kay Philbeck and Carrie Leann Philbeck, both of Olin; maternal grandfather, Bruce E. Bolton of Camden, Tenn.; maternal great-grandmother, Pearl Bolton of Gaffney, S.C.; one niece, Megan Elizabeth Lloyd; and one nephew, Trevor Richard Lloyd.
