A graveside service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Phillips officiating.
The family wil receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg.
Bertha Kirkendall
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Bertha Thrift Kirkendall, 90, of 217 Sand Pit Road, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born March 31, 1910, in Brevard, she was the daughter of the late David Landrum and Rachel Hogsed Thrift. She was retired from Lily Mill and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Grover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Barbara Kirkendall and Steve and Sheila Kirkendall, all of Shelby, John and Ann Kirkendall of Warner Robins, Ga., Ray and Shelby Kirkendall of Summerville, S.C., Spencer and Brenda Kirkendall of Lawndale; a sister, Nellie Thrift of Lawndale; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Eddie Grigg and Tommy Buchanan officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Woodrow Bridges
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Woodrow Bridges, 87, of 303 Fairdel St., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover in Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Giles Andrew and Nancy Alice Wilson Bridges.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Bridges; three brothers, Charlie Bridges, Henry Bridges and Grady Bridges; and three sisters, Leola Tate, Nan Falls and Elizabeth Fite. He was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Sellers Bridges of Kings Mountain; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Candy Bridges of Bessemer City, Larry S. and Ann Bridges and Darrell Bridges, all of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Christian Freedom Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Chambers and Gene Land officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

SPINDALE - Mr. James Wyman Yelton, 84, of 605 Brookwood Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at Spindale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Ramsey officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Mamie Howell
SHELBY - Mrs. Mamie C. Howell, 82, of 401 N. Morgan St., formerly of Grover, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
A native of Gaston County, she was a daughter of the late William Edward and Sally Rhinehardt Howell.
She retired as a supervisor with Minette Mills in Grover after 20 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grover, where she was active in the WMU and the Golden Circle Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Nelson Howell; two sons, Billy and Dud Howell; and two sisters, Geraldine Hall and Ruby Vernon.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie Lee and Kay Howell of Grover, and Richard Nelson and Esther Howell of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy H. and Roger Mullinax of Grover; a brother, Frank Correll of Gastonia; two sisters, Virginia England of Kings Mountain and Kay Hall of Gastonia; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p. m. at First Baptist Church in Grover with Dr. Tony Fulbright and the Revs. Grady Gregory and Richard Horney officiating. Burial will follow at Grover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 104 Briarcliff Road in Grover.

Geoffrey Kruse
MARIETTA, GA. - Mr. Geoffrey Kruse, 60, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000.
Born Dec. 21, 1939, in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was the son of Karl Gustus and Mary Alice Kruse. He was a computer programmer, a personnel consultant and an art consultant. He graduated from Howe Military Academy in Indiana and was a nine-year Marine veteran, serving in the South Pacific and the Mediterranean.
He is survived by a daughter, Andrea Kruse of Atlanta; two sisters, Carol Kruse and Nora Kruse, both of Ann Arbor; one granddaughter, Sophia Grace Corsi of Atlanta; nieces and nephews and a former wife, Cassie Tarpley of Shelby.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Pier in Piedmont Park, Atlanta.

SALUDA, N.C. - Miss Betty Jean Davis, 56, formerly of Spindale, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Autumn Care of Saluda.

Wilbert Lathers
SHELBY - Mr. Wilbert Jerome Lathers, 41, of 825 Frederick St., died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Dec. 20, 1959, the son of Mattie Lee Lathers and the Late John Wilbert Spann. He worked with the Seal Wire Co. and was a former member of Roberts Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Joe Lathers and Danny Lathers; his grandparents, R.L. and Omie Lee Watson.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Sharice Barnette of Gastonia; one brother, Larry Dean Littlejohn of Shelby; a special brother - like friend, Ronald Goode of Shelby; special friend and sister - in - law, Flora Littlejohn, all of Shelby; seven aunts, Adele Ruff, Virginia Elmore, Alma Littlejohn, Martha Eskridge, Flossie Watson and Elizabeth Watson, all of Shelby, and Katie Wilson of Washington, D.C.; two uncles, R.L. Watson of Washington, D.C., and Riley Watson of Shelby; a great - uncle, Manning "Stick" Sinkler of Shelby; five nieces; and four nephews.
Funeral will be today at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. David Fambrough officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Lou Hines Roy, 79, of 1135 Bridges St., died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born July 21, 1921, the daughter of the late Ervin and Ila Mcentire Hines. She was retired from Oneida of Tenafay, N.J., and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Englewood, N.J.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Roy; two sisters, Eva Brown and Bernice Bow; and one brother, Howard Hines.
She is survived by her sister Josephine Hines Jeffries of Shelby; a nephew and his wife, Donald and Margaret Jeffries of Shelby; two special nieces, Karon Barrow of Shelby and Sharon Jones of Wilmington, Del.; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Genesis Funeral Service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home of her sister, 1229 Webb Drive.
Cleo Naman
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Cleo Johnson Naman, 58, of 1200 Hardin Drive, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at her home.
A native of Washington County, Ga., she was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Luther Hunter Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Carl Hawkins Naman of Shelby; her mother, Susie Kate Johnson of Tennille, Ga.; a daughter, Traci Montiel Naman of Atlanta; two sons, Carl Hunter Naman of Charlotte and Eric Hawkins Naman of Waco; two sisters Lillie J. Bruce of Martinez, Ga., and Dorothy J. Calamas of Appling, Ga.; three brothers, Lamar Johnson of Chula Vista, Calif., and Marvin Johnson and Earl Johnson, both of Tennille.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Shelby, with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. A second funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at E. K. May Funeral Home in Tennille. Burial will be in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille.
The family received friends Monday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby and will have visitation on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Tennille.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Donald Eugene Blanton Sr., 56, of 200 Ganley St., died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
He is survived by his father, Andrew Blanton of Kings Mountain; his mother, Sarah Bell Blanton of Kings Mountain; a son, Donald Eugene Blanton Jr. of Shelby; two daughters, Lisa Blanton Arrowood of Conover and Lori Marie Blanton of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Brittnay Arrowood, Brandon Arrowood, Amy Arrowood and Scottie Blanton.
A graveside funeral will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery, with Johnny Mote officiating.

Wade Bradley
ANDREWS - Mr. Wade James "Big Dad" Bradley, 71, of Stewart Road, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Valley View Care Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was an explosives expert and worked in the construction of tunnels. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude James and Lena Clark Bradley; a son, Wade Cross Bradley; a daughter, Jeanette Mae Bradley; a brother, Rolan Bradley; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Jean Bradley; and a sister, Mildred Palmer.
He is survived by three sons, Ricky James Bradley of Gastonia, Anthony Joseph Bradley of Maury and Steve Bradley of Andrews; two daughters, Sherry Davidson of Earl and Katherine Bradley of Shelby; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Hildred McCurry of Gastonia and Jody and Bill Harris of Andrews; seven grandchildren; six great - grandchildren; and a special friend, Bobbie Matheson of Andrews, and her family.
The memorial service and burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Valleytown Cemetery with the Rev. Ron McClure officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Donell Daves, 82, of 2517 Eric Road, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he served in the Navy in World War II. He retired as a textile worker and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Lala Hamrick Daves.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Richards Daves of Shelby; four daughters and sons - in - law, Deloris and J. W. "Jake" Bridges of New House, Verlene and Charles Suttles of Gastonia, Glenda and James Beaver of Shelby and Cynthia and Steve Watts of Fallston; five brothers, Homer Daves of Bostic, Huber Daves of Atlanta, and Jim Daves, Howard Daves and Jesse Daves, all of Shelby; three sisters, Doris Turner and Elaine Whitaker, both of Shelby, and Patsy Long of Spartanburg, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Revs. Gerald Porter and Alton Martin officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Helen Parrish Yates, 81, of 403 E. Parker St., died Wednes - day, June 6, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William Wallace and Ada Huffstetler Parrish. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh W. Yates; her brother, Lawrence Parrish; and three sisters, Elizabeth Thrasher, Patty Jane Parrish and Sarah Parrish Layton.
She is survived by one son daughter - in - law, Eric A. and Sherry Yates of Kings Mountain; two daughters and a son - in - law, Jane and David Frye of Candler and Charlene Sellers of Kings Mountain; one sister, Daisy Parrish Queen of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Jeffery Todd Sellers and his wife, Wendi, Jonathon Eric Yates and Angeline Yates; and three great - grandchidren.
The graveside service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery with Dr. Donald Mitchell officiating.

HENRIETTA - Mrs. Ann Lollar Wells, 93, of North Main Street, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late David Archie and Mattie Stimson Lollar. She was a graduate of Asheville Normal College and retired from the Rutherford County Schools after 35 years of teaching at Ellenboro, Harris, Avondale and Tri - Community elementary schools and Tri - High School. She was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence W. Wells; her son and daughter - in - law, James L. and Sybil Wells of Caroleen; a brother, Charles Lollar of Rutherfordton; and four sisters, Ruby Mathis of Morganton, Eugenia Elliott of Boone and Frances Oels and Dorothy Berger, both of Philadelphia.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Avondale United Methodist Church with the Revs. Anthony Moore and Morris Byers officiating. Burial will be in Union Church Cemetery in Rutherfordton. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen.
