Russell Greene
SHELBY - Mr. Russell Eugene Greene, 74, of 1208 Earl Road, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Grady Jarvis Greene and Virgie Roberson Greene Dobbins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II serving in the Pacific Theater participating in the campaigns of Bougainville, Northern and Southern Solomom Islands, Guam, and China. He received several decorations and ribbons including a Purple Heart.
He was a former State Commander of AmVets, a National Executive Committeeman and a former Commander of AmVets Post 42. He was employed by Hudson-Chadborne Hosiery for 25 years, was a former owner and operator of Don's Pancake House and retired from Triple D Publishing. He was a decorated volunteer worker at the Veterans Administation hospitals and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a stepfather, Plato Dobbins.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with Dr. Harold Fite officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the V.A. Medical Center Volunteer Support Services (135), Memorial Brick Program, Asheville, NC 28805-2087.
Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edgar Pace
FOREST CITY - Mr. Edgar T. Pace, 85, of the Floyd's Creek community, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Heritage Health Care in Hendersonville.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Shane Kirby officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fran Laskaris
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Fran Laskaris, 72, of 508 Long Branch Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at her home.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Land officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

Charlie Bailey
ELLENBORO - Mr. Charles "Charlie" Alfred William Bailey, 80, of 1099 Mount Olivet Church Road, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Jehu Thurston and Laura Bridges Bailey. He was a member of Walls Baptist Church. He served in the Army European Mission during World War II. He was a retired correction officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections and was also a farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Ola Bailey Butler, Lola Mae Melton, Oma Lee Melton, Cora Lee Bailey, Nancy Pearl Lawing and Daisy Fisher; and a brother, Therlo "Pete" Bailey.
He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Melton Bailey of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sandra Bailey of Ellenboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Norman McDaniel of Ellenboro; two granddaughters, Misti McDaniel of Chapel Hill and Stephanie Bailey of Ellenboro; two grandsons, Mason McDaniel and Steven Bailey, both of Chapel Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Jehu "Jake" and Betty Bailey of Union Mills; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Donna and Ben Holcomb of Mooresboro and Polly Bailey of Henrietta; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Walls Baptist Church with the Revs. Roger Overton and Lee Causby Jr. and Dr. Robert Toney officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Claxton Petty
SHELBY - Mr. Claxton Julius Petty, 86, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, formerly of 1772 New House Road, died Nov. 10, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late W. Broughton and Sarah Grigg Petty. He was a farmer and a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Whitaker Petty; two brothers, Judson Petty and Veque Petty; and two sisters, Edna Arnette and Gladys Whitaker.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert A. and Betty Petty of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Ronnie Sowell of Lancaster, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Louise Petty of Ellenboro; a sister, Euzele Greene of Shelby; five grandchildren, Sheila Caldwell of Newton, Sandra Petty of Kings Mountain, Mitchell Greene of Hickory, Michael Greene and Mark Greene, both of Lancaster; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Caldwell and Brent Caldwell, both of Newton.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with the Revs. Don McSwain and David Webb officiating.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family received friends Friday evening at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and will receive friends at other times at the home of Albert and Betty Petty, 104 Doral Court, Woodbridge, Kings Mountain.
Memorials may be made to Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, 1404 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, N.C. 28150 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Nell Dotson
CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. Nell Hutto Dotson, 72, of 907 High Shoal Church Road, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at her home.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Peggy Litton Hutto. She was a homemaker and a member of High Shoal Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Richie Dotson; a brother, Harold Hutto; and a sister, Joy Holcombe.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Dotson of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ricky and Pat Dotson and Rodney Dotson, all of Cliffside; a daughter and son-in-law, Rheta and Cecil Houser of Cliffside; two grandchildren and their spouses, Heather and Darrell Bowen of Shelby and Matthew and Amy Houser of Cliffside; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Bowen and Maggie Houser; two brothers, Junior Hutto of Blacksburg, S.C. and Carroll Hutto of Charlotte; and two sisters, Billie Sellers and Toye Smith, both of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at High Shoal Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Passmore officiating.
Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Donald McGinnis
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Donald Harris McGinnis, 76, of 907 Sherwood Lane, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ken Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Lamuel Hudson
COLUMBUS - Mr. Lamuel Hudson, 80, of 2450 Huston Road, formerly of Rutherfordton and Gastonia, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 4 at Crowe's Mortuary in Rutherfordton.

James Johnson
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. James E. Johnson, 66, of 406 Whiteside Road, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Crowe Funeral Home.

Ilene Fraser
BOERNE, Texas - Mrs. Ilene Scruggs Bailey Fraser, 88, of 625 N. Main St., formerly of Shelby, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Town & Country Manor, Boerne.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Dwight Flack Sr.
MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Mr. Dwight Flack Sr., 72, died Sunday, October 29, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Laymon and Leila Flack. He attended and graduated from Douglas High School in Lawndale. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1951 and received an honorable discharge. He worked at Essex County Hospital Center from 1958 to 1990 before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Flack; one daughter, Daria Flack of Montclair; two sons, Dwight Flack Jr. and Stephen Flack, both of Montclair; three sisters, Naomi Jennings and Wyvonia Carter, both of Newark, N.J. and Minnie Parker of Hillside, N.J.; three brothers, William Flack of Newark, Calvin Flack of Plainfield, N.J. and Jack Flack of Sanford; one grandchild; one aunt, Edith Dillard; one uncle, Thomas Flack; and nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
The funeral was on Nov. 4, 2000, at Greater New Point Missionary Baptist Church in Irvington, N.J.
Drew Funeral Home in Montclair was in charge of arrangements.
Enloe Mortuary Inc. in Shelby is in charge of local arrangements.

Frank Melton
BOSTIC - Mr. Frank W. Melton, 82, of Bostic, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Golden Valley United Methodist Church.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 at the church.

Flossie Woods
SHELBY - Mrs. Flossie Elizabeth Brigman Woods, 89, of West Warren Manor died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Autumn Care Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.
A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mollie Elmore Duncan Brigman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Grady Woods; two sons, Marshall Davis and Walter H. Davis; and five brothers.
She is survived by a son and daughter in-law, H. Grady Jr. and Doris Woods of Shelby; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Shelby W. and Ray Kirkendall of Summerville, S.C., Priscilla W. and Bill Gantt of the Outer Banks, Phyllis W. and Gene Mosteller of Lawndale; Mabel (Gertrude Woods) Weathers of Bostic, Virginia Clark of Warrington, Fla., and Patsy D. Oaks of Flat Rock, Mich.; three sisters, Eva Jean Burgess and Edith Mode of Caroleen, and Annie Sprinkle of Hendersonville; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Carpenters Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Welch and Bryan Glisson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Palmer Mortuary.
