Bobby Rippy
SHELBY - Mr. Bobby George Rippy, 51, of 504 Roberts St., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Talmadge and Iver Mae Head Rippy. He was a weaver at Minette Mills for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Louella Rippy.
He is survived by his wife, Delores L. Rippy of the home; six stepdaughters, Theresa Barber and Susan Kiser of Kings Mountain, Debbie Bobiak of Wilmington, Tina Davis of Buffalo, N.Y., and Lisa Friday and Kim Earwood of Shelby; a stepson, Kelly Davis of Shelby; a brother, Dean Rippy of Earl; five sisters, Velvia Martin of Shelby, Lib Blanton and Trit Lowery of Grover, Brenda Mace of Kings Mountain and Jean Whitworth of Patterson Springs; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Revs. Richard Shores and Tom Ensley officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. - James "Jim" C. Gold, 61, of West Columbia, S.C., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Griffin Bell and Ellie Campbell Gold. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was retired from NCR.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert M. Gold.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lillian Richardson Gold of West Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Marti G. and Kenneth S. Flaherty of West Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher A. and Stephanie Smith Gold of West Columbia; two sisters, Lib Revels and Margaret Cummings of Shelby; three brothers, Phil Gold of Columbia, S.C., Dan Gold of Winston-Salem and Doug Gold of Shelby; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Reed officiating.
Burial will be follow at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, N.C.
Members of the Bledsoe Class Adults 3C of Northside Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, S.C., and at other times at the home, 2300 Bobwhite Lane, West Columbia, at the home of his son, 116 Kristen Court, West Columbia, and at the home of his daughter, 235 Reynord Circle, West Columbia. LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Mamie Craig Wellman, 78, of 615 Grier St., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at her home.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Memorial Baptist Church, Lawndale, with the Rev. Andy Meade officiating.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.

FOREST CITY - Mr. John Hubert Deyton Sr., 79, of 188 Quinn Road, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce McAllister and the Rev. Troy Smith officiating.
Burial will be at High Shoal Baptist Church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Euray Elva Hendrick Starnes, 90, of 3581 Plainfield Drive, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
Born June 12, 1910, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late C.F. and Lona Costner Hendrick. She was retired as a spinner at Cleveland Cloth Mill. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Senior Citizens Bible Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Starnes; two brothers, Boyd Hendrick and Woodrow Hendrick; and a sister, Charlene Hamrick.
She is survived by three brothers, John Hendrick and Hal Hendrick of Shelby and Mal Hendrick of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four sisters, Lollie Ledford of Shelby, Evelyn Devine and Jeanette Kendrick, both of Aiken, S.C., and Vera Keener of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Christine Hendrick of Shelby.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Russell Fitts officiating.

MARBLETON, Ga. - Mr. Ray Cook, 61, of 47 Magnolia Ave., died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Alvin and Mertie Sigmon Cook. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and a member of Grace Baptist Church. He was employed as an independent courier.
He is survived by his wife, Harriette Ruppe Cook of the home; a son, Allen Peskopos of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Donna Burgess of Ellenboro, Anita Cook and Trina Cook; six brothers, Clyde Cook, Jerry Cook and Brady Cook, all of Polkville, Hazel Sigmon of Golden Valley, Gene Sigmon and Howard Sigmon, both of Lawndale; seven sisters, Katherine Crotts of Casar, Evelyn Buff and Reba Head of Polkville, Ruth Davis, Ethel Fortenberry and Mary Fortenberry, all of Shelby, and Gladys Williams of Earl; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Polkville Baptist Church with the Revs. Broadus Heatherly and Bob Wardlaw officiating.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Modene Hoyle Landis, 80, of 173 Heritage Drive, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Belo and Florence Ross Hoyle. She was a homemaker and a member of Alexander Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Landis.
She is survived by a son, Fred Landis of Forest City; a daughter, Judy Philbeck of Bostic; three brothers, Herman Hoyle and Robert Hoyle, both of Bostic, and Bernie Hoyle of Shelby; three sisters, Ruby Hutchins and Ruth Kimbrell, both of Morganton, and Lillian Greene of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Level Baptist Church with the Revs. Wayne Toney, Robbie Hensely, Tom Elkin and Jerry Vess officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

CHERRYVILLE - Miss Bertie Lee Beam, 82, of 283 Fielding Road, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Allen and Violet Hord Beam. She was a homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Waco High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman A. Beam and Everett Beam; and a sister, Florence Beam.
She is survived by a sister, Nella Jo Brecht of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. James Adams and Dr. Gene L. Waterson officiating.

SHELBY - Ms. Cornelia Phillips, 82, of 1204 Webb Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Colfax Township in Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Roseman and Lula Watkins Phillips. She attended Green Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret L. Phillips Mitchell; four nieces, Ada Elaine Williamson and Lucretia M. Bell, both of Shelby, Sadie White of Los Angeles and the Rev. Barbara Sands of Annapolis, Md.; nine nephews, William Mitchell Jr., Jerry Mitchell, Fred D. Mitchell and Richard Phillips, all of Shelby, Raymond Phillips of Boiling Springs, Leonard Thompson and Mason Thompson of Detroit, Melvin Phillips of Miami Lakes, Fla., and Kenneth Phillips of Providence, R.I.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Green Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
