KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Clara Ballard Brown, 77, of 603 Groves St., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at her home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joe Small officiating.
Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Wilburn Davis
SHELBY - Mr. Wilburn "Possum" Davis, 63, of 1677 Midway Ave., died Wednes-day, Nov. 15, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Millard Lee and Josephine Kelly Davis. He was retired from Esther Mill where he worked for 28 years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Davis; three half brothers, Kenneth Davis, Hubert Robinson and Edward Robinson; and a half sister, Kathryn R. Black
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Short Davis of the home; a daughter and her fiance, Sherry Robbins and Tony Wyatt II of Gastonia; four sons and three daughters-in-law, James Wilburn and Beth Davis, Johnny Wayne and Shirley Davis and Billy Gene Davis, all of Shelby, and Joseph Ray and Angela Davis of Cherryville; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Willard and Thelma Davis and Clyde Davis, all of Shelby, Billy Joe and Betty Davis of Rutherfordton, Gene and Patty Davis of Hickory, Hazel and Jackie Davis of Cherryville and Bobby Davis of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Michael Anderson, Jason Davis, Dustin Davis, Kacie Davis, Jonathan Davis, Brandon Davis, Brooke Davis and Tyler Davis; six stepgrandchildren, Amanda Philbeck, Christinia Moore, Betty Joe Philbeck, Daryl Butler, Jade Butler and Michelle Queen; and a great-grandchild, Alexis Rose Moore.
The funeral will be today at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Revs. John Bridges and Allen Davis officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday at the funeral home and will receive friends at other times at the home, 1677 Midway Ave., Shelby.

HARRIS - Mrs. Carrie Inez Hammett, 83, of Harris, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.

ASHEVILLE - Mrs. Gertrude Bullard Crawford, 89, of 84 Hollybrook Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Highland Farms.
Born March 25, 1911, in Lumberton, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Ila Bullard. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Crawford Sr. of the home; a son, Frank Crawford Jr. of Lake Lure; and a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Crawford and Ted Meadows of Asheville.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jamie Pharr officiating.

SHELBY - Miss Sarah Lucille Lemons, 72, of 1101 N. Morgan St., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Elzie Lemons and Emma Sue Bailey. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church.
She is survived by three brothers, Floyd Lemons and Larry Lemons, both of Shelby, and Harold Lemons of Lattimore; three sisters, Joyce Gardner of Shelby, Susan Carpenter of Kings Mountain and Brenda Wheat of Gaffney, S.C.; seven nieces; and four nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating.
Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.

FALLSTON - Mrs. Florence Gantt Lewis, 96, of 132 Beam St., died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
Born April 10, 1904, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Miles and Martha Jane Gosey Gantt. She was a homemaker and quilter and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church senior citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Franklin Lewis; two brothers, Lee A. Gantt and Marion Gantt; five sisters, Ada Leatherman, Laura Willis, Lula Elliott, Callie Lewis and Josephine Lovelace; two sons-in-law, Carl Beam and Cyrus Houser; and one grandchild.
She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Louise Lewis, Woodrow and Thelma Lewis, Thomas and Shirlene Lewis, Loyd and Sara Lewis and Boyd and Minerva Lewis, all of Fallston; three daughters and a son-in-law, Lorene House of Vale, Ruth Beam of Fallston and Shirley and Gilmer Allison of Lawndale; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Eddie Ingram and Erman Bradley officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Alton McEntire of Goldsboro; a son, William Thomas McEntire of Atlanta; a daughter, Alton Ann McEntire of Goldsboro; a brother, Joe DePriest of Shelby; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Greenleaf Memorial Park, New Bern, with the Rev. Walter Geskins officiating.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Pauline Floyd Shuford, 86, of 1619 W. Stagecoach Trail, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Century Care of Shelby.
Born Sept. 13, 1914, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Marion and Affie Elizabeth Haynes Floyd. She was a homemaker and a member of Palm Tree United Methodist church and a former member of the United Methodist Women and the Sunset Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Robert Shuford; a son-in-law, Gene Dedmon; a grandson, Dennis Dedmon; and four brothers, Hoyt Floyd, Weldon Floyd, Colon Floyd and Nathan Floyd.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and Joyce Shuford of Polkville and Dwight and Barbara Shuford of Shelby; a daughter, Joan S. Dedmon of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Thea D. McCurry, Sharon D. Still, Jeanne Dedmon, Richard Shuford, Sandra Satterfield, Lisa Shuford and Daryle Shuford; two brothers, D.E. Floyd of Lawndale and Jack Floyd of Shelby; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Scott officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Gordon Carpenter
MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - Mr. Gordon R. Capenter, 89, of Middletown, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Horton Medical Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1911, in West Haven, Conn., he was the son of the late Edward and Fannie Atkins Carpenter. He was a lieutenant commander with the Navy during World War II and a former member of the Orange County Executive Staff.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel Cole Carpenter, in 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Bilinski Carpenter of Middletown; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Frank Hannah of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Alison Hannah, Wendy Hannah Wright, Leslie Hannah Bankirer and Thomas Hannah.
The funeral will be today at 5 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, with the Rev. David Jenks officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

'Boots' Hayes
SHELBY - Ms. Beulah "Boots" Hayes, 77, of 211 N. Morgan St., Apartment 10A, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lawndale, she was the daughter of the late Shuford and Ada Blackburn Lane. She was retired from Minette Mills in Grover. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Grover and the foster grandparents program of the United Way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Lane, and a sister, Ruth Pearson.
She is survived by a sister, Blanche Brackett of Lawndale, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Brackett officiating.
Burial will be at Grover Cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - The Rev. Marcus Edward Martin, 70, of 500 Bridges Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Clover, S.C., he was the son of the late Mike Martin and Essie Batchlor. He was retired from Anvil Knit Wear and a member of Kings Mountain House of Prayer for All People. He served in the National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Estelle Martin Rayfield, and nine children.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Cleo Jackson Martin of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Janice Martin of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Carl Mills of Kings Mountain; a grandson and his wife, William E. Jr. and Wendy Martin of Kings Mountain; a grandddaughter, April Dawn Martin of Kings Mountain; two grandsons, Stephen Edward Mills and Brandon Scott Mills, both of Kings Mountain; a great-granddaughter, Hidi Edna Greene of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Walter Martin of Blacksburg, S.C., and Bobby Gene Martin of Grover; and three sisters, Callie Elizabeth Jackson and Louise Allen, both of Kings Mountain, and Lucille Millican of Whiteville.

He is survived by his wife, Leila Chapman Richards; a son, Ray Dean Richards of Green Creek; three daughters, Margie Gettys and Mildred Brittain, both of Ellenboro, and Edith Monday of Morganton; three brothers, Johnny Richards of Ellenboro, Clarence Richards of Bostic and Coye Richards of Valdese; one sister, Lillie Wray of Valdese; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
