Andy Huffstetler
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Andy Floyd Huffstetler, 80, of Eden Gardens Assisted Living, 1101 Phifer Road, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his residence.
He was a son of the late Forrest H. and Aquilla Ray Ham Huffstetler, a native of Cleveland County and a member of Maylo United Methodist Church in Ranlo for 31 years, where he was a member of the C.E. Wilson Sunday School Class. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Rex Mills No. 1 and 2 in Ranlo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Star Kale Huffstetler.
He is survived by a daughter, Andrea Beason of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Randy Cash of Kings Mountain; a brother, William Leonard Huffstetler of Kings Mountain; five sisters, Iva Mae Henson, Margaret Huffstetler, Ailene Huffstetler, Helen Jennings and Gertie Bumgardner, all of Kings Mountain; and a grandson, Chip Cash of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Maylo United Methodist Church in Ranlo, with the Revs. Boyce Huffstetler and Doug Allen officiating. Entombment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
Randy Deal, Ray Kale, Charlie Kale, Johnny Carpenter, David Huffstetler and Johnny Kale will be pallbearers. Members of the C.E. Wilson Sunday School Class of Maylo United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at McLean Funeral Directors in Gastonia.

Myrtle Bennett
SHELBY - Ms. Myrtle Louise Bennett, 60, of 3978 Barclay Road, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Hattie Hopper
SHELBY - Mrs. Hattie Helene Ross Hopper, 75, of 820 Earl Road, Apartment 4C, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Haywood and Nellie Wilson Ross, a native of Cleveland County and a member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church, where she was an honorary usher and member of the hymn choir. She was a former employee of Lily Mills, where she worked for 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Hazel Lee Hopper; three brothers, Void Ross, Hershall Ross and Haywood Ross Jr.; and a sister, Loraine Hopper.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Garland Hopper of Century Care of Shelby; five sons, Paul Hopper of Shelby, Lemanual Hopper of Grover, and Garland Hopper Jr., Robert Hopper and Walter Hopper, all of Shelby; six daughters, Mary Maddox and Carolyn Adams of Shelby, Rosalee Williams of Swainsville, and Betty Archie, Sarah Gill and Willie Mae Hopper, all of Shelby; a sister, Mary L. McKinney of Shelby; 25 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter B. Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sarah Gill, 716 Parkview St., in Shelby.

Tommie Price
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Tommie Greene Price, 78, of 2545 Prospect Church Road, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Bert Smith and Dovie Jane Wilson Greene.
She retired from the Cliffside branch of Cone Mills with 48 years of service.
She was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brandon Wright and Blake Wright; one brother, James Hustler Greene; and two sisters, Vernie Jones and Macie Jones.
She is survived by her husband, James Price of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Jane Price of Mooresboro; four granddaughters, Rhonda Wright and her husband, Jody, Elizabeth Mace and husband, Kenny, Myra Price and Rebecca Price; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Wright, Storm Mace and Jay Wright; and one sister, Wonnie Jones of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. John Goforth officiating.
Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Ronald and Jane Price of Prospect Church Road in Mooresboro.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Denise Brothers Stacy, 46, of 393 Vance St., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at her home.

SHELBY - Mrs. Evelyn Borders Spake, 76, of 2001 Robyn Ave., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Fred Forrest and Patsy Davis Borders. She retired from sales at Esther Mill Co. She belonged to Elizabeth Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Keenagers Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M.L. Spake; two brothers, Fred Borders Jr. and Mike Borders; and a sister, Nancy Borders.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Jordan and Cline Borders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Clayton Elliott
LAWNDALE - Mr. Clayton Dewey Elliott, 73, of 740 Casar-Lawndale Road, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County Feb. 12, 1927, he was a son of the late Ernest and Lucy Spangler Elliott. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater. He retired as an electrician from Florida Power & Light Co. He attended Palm Springs United Methodist Church in Hialeah, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Z. Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Lee Waldrep Elliott; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Ellen Elliott of Lawndale; a brother, Robert William Elliott Jr. of Douglasville, Ga.; two nieces, Margaret Chapman and Elizabeth Sawyer; two nephews, Bob Elliott and Johnny Elliott; five great-nieces, Melody Sawyer, Amber Sawyer, Samantha Elliott, Stephanie Elliott and Katie Elliott; and a great-nephew, Kevin Elliott.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston, with the Rev. David Reep officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Thomas Ballard
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Thomas "Bud" Ballard, 72, of 304 Garrison Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home.
A native of Gaston County, he was a son of the late George Dewitt and Eva Crawford Ballard. He retired from BellSouth with 40 years of service. He was a member of BellSouth Pioneers, served on the Kings Mountain Board of Adjustments and was a former Kings Mountain reserve police officer. He was a Navy veteran, a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, where he served as deacon, usher, audio technician and Sunday school teacher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Allen Ballard.
He is survived by his wife, Dorene Ross Ballard of Kings Mountain; a son, Thomas Jeffrey Ballard of Gastonia; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne B. and Claude Clark of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Hurley Ballard and Chouvis Ballard, both of Bessemer City; and three grandchildren, Hanna Clark, Ross Clark and Payton Clark.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Dwight Wright
LAWNDALE - Mr. Dwight Fritz Wright, 86, of 1526 Union Church Road, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Hattie Wright Cogdell. He retired from the maintenance department of Cleveland County. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, the Rehobeth Breakfast Club and was a former choir member and steward of the church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nell Wright Covington; and two sisters, Mary Queen and Lula Mae Hastings.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mattie Ledford Wright; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jane Wright of Oriental and Don and Vickie Wright of Lawndale; four grandchildren, Phillip Wright, Dean Wright, Ricky Wright and Wendy Rogers; and five great-grandchildren, Lindsay Wright, Evan Dwight Wright, Connor Rogers, Mason Rogers and Kendall Rogers.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Mary Carnes and Zeno Wright officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour before the service.

Willard White
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Willard "Will" Fortenberry White died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.
Born in Cleveland County June 6, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Adkin and Zula Rosellen Hull Fortenberry. She retired from Premier Hosiery and was a member of New Home United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred White; three brothers, Clyde Fortenberry, Paul Fortenberry and Lee Fortenberry; and four sisters, Lillie Ledford, Sophia Angel, Vernie Fortenberry and Lois Richard.
She is survived by a brother, Dwight Fortenberry of Morganton.
The funeral is today at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston with the Rev. Edward Lee officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

HICKORY - Mrs. Betty Kahill Barker, 63, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the home of her daughter.
Born in Catawba County Nov. 24, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Serley Albert and Maudie Lucille Bean Kahill. She had worked for Shuford Mills and was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Barker of the home; a son, Allen E. Proctor of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Proctor and Jerry Campbell of Maiden; two sisters, Mary Jo Hilton and Dottie Crowder, both of Hickory; a brother, Larry Albert Kahill of Hickory; a stepgrandmother, Lucy Bean of Granite Falls; four stepsons, Tim Barker of Gastonia, Rick Barker of Lawndale, Mike Barker of Bessemer City and Kevin Barker of Morganton; a stepdaughter, Loretta Medford of Dallas; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tom Hunsucker officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
