Myrtie Lovelace
SHELBY - Mrs. Myrtie Branch Lovelace, 83, of White Oak Manor in Shelby, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in McDowell County Aug. 17, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Norman Branch. She had worked for the dietary department of Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gayvon Lovelace.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Ray and Brenda Lovelace of Belmont, Edward and Christine Lovelace of Kings Mountain and Robert Casey and Louise Lovelace of Grover; three grandsons, Ronald Lovelace, Gregory Lovelace and Roger Gilliam; three granddaughters, Jennifer Rippy, Cynthia Woods and Robin Lovelace; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Grigg officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Charles Ray Lovelace, 110-11 Carlin Drive, Kings Mountain.

Harvey Pearson
SHELBY - Mr. Harvey Pearson, 74, of 2605 Spring Valley Terrace, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Summey and Macy Dixon Pearson. He retired as a driver-operator for Clevemont Mills and was a member of Missionary Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Pauline Pearson of Shelby; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Harvey and Madeline Pearson of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Donnie and Shirley Pearson of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Junior Duncan of Maiden; two brothers, James A. Pearson and Hubert Pearson, both of Shelby; a sister, Jean Whaley of Shelby; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Bean and Phil Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Donnie Pearson, 111 Remington Drive, Kings Mountain.

SHELBY - Mrs. Rosalie Moore Nolan, 88, of 601 Royster Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cleveland Funeral Services of Shelby.

James Dotson
SPINDALE - Mr. James Robert Dotson, 50, of 103 Ridgewood Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at his home.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel in Rutherfordton with the Revs. John Perry and Jerry Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Land Smarr
SHELBY - Mr. Land Preston "Mobey Dick" Smarr, 50, of 289 Light Oak Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Mary Smarr, 609 West Elm St., Shelby.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Edna Searcy
LAKE LURE - Mrs. Edna Bell Robertson Searcy, 95, of 2577 Bill's Creek Road, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Bill's Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Philbeck officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Home in Rutherfordton.

Marie Holland
SHELBY - Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Haulk Holland, 75, of Forest Lake Retirement Home, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cleveland Funeral Services of Shelby.

James Chitty Jr.
KITTY HAWK - Mr. James Frank Chitty Jr., 76, of Kitty Hawk, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at his home.
A native of Ahoskie, he was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Menola. He was the son of the late James Frank Sr. and Hettie Blowe Chitty of Menola. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 36 years of service. He was also a retired partner of Southern Breeze Realty of Ahoskie. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church until his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Thurman Chitty of Ahoskie and Dorothy Chitty Brill of Murfreesboro.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie Wade Chitty of Kitty Hawk; a son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" Frank III and Kay Chitty of Shelby; a daughter and her fiance, Deborah Chitty McKinney of Kitty Hawk and Jimmy Godwin of Kill Devil Hills; a mother-in-law, Goldie F. Wade of Conway; four grandchildren, Haley Young Chitty of Shelby, James "Jay" Frank Chitty IV and Taylor Wade Chitty, both of Shelby, and Frank Stuart McKinney of Kitty Hawk; and two sisters, Mabel Chitty Edwards of Ahoskie and Thelma Chitty Vinson of Murfreesboro.
The funeral will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Brad Bradshaw and Dr. Jesse J. Croom officiating. Burial will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 90 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

Myron Swafford
SHELBY - Mr. Myron Donald Swafford, 59, of 2324 Emerald Mine Road, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Carl and Mary Ellen Reid Swafford. He was a 20-year employee of Hoechst-Celanese in Shelby, a member of the Shriners, a Mason and a member of Berea First Baptist Church in Greenville.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff Swafford of Clover, S.C. and Tim Swafford of Vernonia, Ore.; a daughter, Pam Breland of Pickens, S.C.; a brother, Ronnie Swafford of Honea Path, S.C.; a half-sister, Doris Hendricks of Pickens; and three grandchildren, Bronson Brown and Bridgett Brown, both of Pickens and Candace Swafford of Georgia.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery, West Greenville, S.C.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 8:30 at Westville Memorial Funeral Home, 6010 White Horse Road, Greenville.
Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church -Youth Fund, 12 Piney Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

Charles Scott
SHELBY - Mr. Charles Sam Scott, 50, of 932 Hampton St. Apt. 31, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel.

Mary Ruppe
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Anne Mathis Ruppe, 48, of 2308 College Farm Road, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Odus Mathis of Ellenboro and the late Lourine Willis Mathis. She was retired from Reliance Electric and was a homemaker. She was a member of Gantt's Grove Baptist Church and was a volunteer at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Clyde Morgan Ruppe.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Scott Morgan Ruppe of the home; four daughters and a son-in-law, Angela and Aaron Toney of Lattimore, Renee Drewery of Lattimore, Nicole Drewery of the home and Haley Phillips of Mooresboro; a son, Hunter Scott Ruppe of the home; six grandchildren, Ashley Toney, Andi Toney, Douglas Toney, Avery Phillips, Blake Pryor and Lauren Phillips; three brothers, Charlie Mathis of Spindale, Jimmy Mathis of Boiling Springs and Douglas Mathis of Ellenboro; and a sister, Mildred Turner of Ellenboro.
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Gantt's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Caris Owens officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow at Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Jack Whitworth
LINCOLNTON - Mr. John "Jack" Jasper Whitworth, 68, of 6382 Beam Lumber Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000 at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church and at 3006 Marys Grove Church Road, Kings Mountain.
Ebony & White's Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence York
GASTONIA - Mr. Lawrence Lee York, 72, of 3009 Rhyne St., died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at home.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Ward Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Brogan officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Montgomery, Ronnie Denton, Virgil Hamrick, Jack Revis, Hall Spargo and Johnny Creighton.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

G. Ray Van Dyke
WACO - Mr. G. Ray Van Dyke, 50, of 102 Penn Place, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born Aug. 18, 1950, in Cleveland County, he was the son of Connie Prue Van Dyke of Waco and the late Jim Van Dyke. He was a member of Waco Baptist Church in Waco, where he served as a deacon and a member of the W.H. Dodd Sunday school class. He was a member of the Waco Ruritan Club of Waco.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Anne Murray Van Dyke of the home; two daughters, Veronica Pearl Van Dyke and Samantha Ray Van Dyke, both of the home; a brother, Jim Van Dyke Jr. of Lincolnton; three sisters, Peggy Beaver and Joy Kay Davis, both of Lincolnton and Cynthia Jones of Shelby; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Della Murray of Waco; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan and Vickie Murray of Waco.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Moss and Neal Efird officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be at Caper-naum Cemetery of Waco.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Ethel Jackson
CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. Ethel Lee Brackett Jackson, 92, of 707 Beason Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Autumn Care of Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Young and Loni Tate Brackett. She retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Jackson; and her son, Clyde Lee Jackson.
She is survived by three grandchildren, David Jackson of Forest City and Joyce Pressley and Judy Yelton, both of Cliffside; one brother, Herman Brackett of Cliffside; one sister, Hazel Harrill of Forest City; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Revs. William Stroud and Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour prior to funeral at the church and at other times of the home of Joyce Pressley, 624 Beason Road, Cliffside.
Memorials may be made to Cliffside Baptist Church Building Fund, Box 336, Cliffside, NC 28024.

Edna Putnam
BOILING SPRINGS - Miss Edna Jean Putnam, 93, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, formerly of Mount Sinai community, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
Born on April 27, 1907, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Leo R. and Ada Gertrude Weaver Putnam. She was a retired clerk from Blanton's Variety Store and was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Taft Putnam, Hythe Putnam, Crete Putnam, E.J. Putnam and Ezra L. Putnam; and two sisters, Oveda McKinney and Etha Hunt.
She is survived by a sister, Willie P. Putnam of Shelby and neices and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Trexler and Broadus Heatherly officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 5:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at a sister's home, Willie P. Putnam, 1217 Mount Sinai Church Road, Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Mount Sinai Baptist Church Play Ground Fund, 1227 Mount Sinai Church Road, Shelby, NC 28152.

Harvey Pearson

Frank Crawford Sr.
ASHEVILLE - Mr. Frank M. Crawford Sr., 88, of 84 Hollybrook Drive, formerly of Statesville, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Elder Berry Health Care in Marshall.
Born on March 29, 1912, in Iredell County, he was the son of the late William B. and Mary Vickery Crawford. He attended Iredell County Schools and was a graduate of N.C. State. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Statesville, a successful land developer in Asheville and Buncombe County and a grand master of the Masonic Lodge in Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Crawford and John Crawford.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Crawford and Ted Meadows of Asheville; a son, Frank M. Crawford Jr. of Lake Lure; and a brother, William Crawford of Statesville.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jamie Pharr officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home and in the church fellowship hall following the funeral .
Reavis Funeral Home in Statesville is in charge of funeral arrangements.

SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Stella Smith Morrow, 90, of 724 Blanton St., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Ridge officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services and at the home, 724 Blanton St., Shelby.
