BOSTIC - Mrs. Ethel Melton Wall, 91, of Bostic-Sunshine Highway, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Padgett & King Chapel in Forest City with the Rev. Charles Street officiating. Burial will follow at Bostic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the Padgett & King Mortuary.
Hugh Sperling
WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Hugh Kenneth Sperling, 68, of 3825 Grayson Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was a native of Cleveland County and was a son of the late William S. and Margaret Hannon Sperling. He was a member of East Baptist Church in Charlotte and a retired construction contractor. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay Randolph Sperling and B. Edwin Sperling; and one sister, Inez Childers Swanson.
He is survived by four sons, Chriss Sperling, Jack Sperling and Scott Sperling, all of Mooresville, and Randy Sperling of Denver; five daughters, Jean Miller and Kimberly Sperling, both of Charlotte, Ann Sperling of Creedmoor, Lori Vreeland of Delray Beach, Fla., and Stacey Monroe of Concord; two brothers, Calvin Sperling of Burlington and Bill Sperling Jr. of Lincolnton; four sisters, Edith Holden of Lincolnton, Emma Lankford of Mount Holly, Pauline Wright of Cherryville and Mary Killian of Hickory; 13 grandchildren, Lisa, Blake, Kenny, Calist, Nicole, Delaney, Austin, Baylen, Thomas, Crystal, Steven, Brandon and Daniel; and the children's mother, Jeanelle Anthony of Mooresville.
The funeral is today at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, with the Rev. Jim Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends an hour and half before the service at the funeral home.
Josephine Adams
SHELBY - Mrs. A. Josephine Allen Adams, 81, of 559 Dick Spangler Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Plato and Beaulah Camp Allen. She was a homemaker. She was a member of New Testament Missionary Baptist in Waco and was a former member of the Cleveland County C.B. Radio Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Adams; two sons, William David Adams and Daniel E. Adams; one brother; two sisters; and one great-grandson.
She is survived by three sons, Jack Adams of Forest City, Larry Adams of Cherryville and Wayne Adams of Shelby; two daughters, Sue Campbell and Brenda Kay Barnette, both of Cherryville; one brother, Joe P. Allen of Shelby; four sisters, Dorothy Yarboro of Kings Mountain, Louise Scruggs of Patterson Springs and Shirley Bell and Mary Lou Green, both of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Revs. Dale Hullette, Andy Meade and Bill Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dan Adams
SHELBY - Mr. Daniel Elphus Adams, 54, of 561 Dick Spangler Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at 559 Dick Spangler Road.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John William and A. Josephine Allen Adams. He was a welder at Seal Wire Co. of Shelby, and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of American Poultry Association and American Poultry Bantam Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William David Adams.
He is survived by two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne Hastings of Kings Mountain and Johnny and Samantha Hastings of Stanley; one daughter, Tabitha Adams of Gaffney, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Gianna Hastings of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Wayne Adams of Shelby, Jackson Adams of Forest City and Larry Adams of Cherryville; two sisters, Sue Campbell of Cherryville and Kay Barnette of Shelby; two grandsons, Luke Hastings and Billy Fralick Jr.; and one granddaughter, Megan Hastings.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Revs. Thomas Irvin and Marie Ervin officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.

John Rippy
SHELBY - Mr. John Lee Rippy, 53, of 423 Highland Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Ernest L. and Elizabeth Rippy.
He is survived by one son, Ronnie Nichols of Atlanta; one daughter, Dianah Patman of Jefferson, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jessica Patman of Jefferson, Ga., and Danielle Toms of Shelby; two sisters, Mary M. Logan of Lawndale and Bessie L. Lockhart of Polkville; one aunt, Minnie L. Grier of Shelby; a special friend, Jerry Allen of Shelby; four nieces; and five nephews.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m in the chapel of Genesis Funeral Service and Chapel with the Rev. Richard McCombs officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the funeral.

BOILING SPRINGS - Ms. Edna Jean Putnam, 94, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, formerly of Mount Sinai community, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs.

James Whitaker
MOORESBORO - Mr. James Willis Whitaker, 87, of 320 Faye Toney Road, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late John B. and Augusta McKinney Whitaker. He was a retired mail carrier and service station operator. He was a Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Bailey and Lois Ford.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lewis McKinney Whitaker of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Lewis "Jim" and Sue Whitaker and John Willis and Susan Whitaker, all of Shelby; one brother, Raymond Whitaker of Henrietta; two sisters, Madeline Freeman and Cova Moore, both of Ellenboro; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Race Path Baptist Church with the Rev. John Godfrey officiating. Burial be in the church cemetery.

Hazel Wilson
BOSTIC - Mrs. Hazel Cochran Wilson, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her daughter's residence, 163 Heritage Lane, Bostic.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cane Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in Golden Church of Brethren Cemetery.

Mary Morrow
SHELBY - Mrs. Mary Stella Smith Morrow, 90, of 724 Blanton St., died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late David Chesley and Claudia Lee Royster Smith. She was retired from the Dover Mill Co., where she worked for 35 years. She was a member of Davidson Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Newell Morrow.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Lou Mason of Forest City, Ailene Hubbard of Shelby and Elva Myra of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Illian Moss of Shelby; one brother, David Orison Smith, Orange City, Fla.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Bobby Ridge officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home, 724 Blanton St.

Lizzie Walker
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Lizzie Mae Walker, 90, of Century Care, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Ida Heavner Robbins. She was a homemaker and a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duarde Walker; and a grandson, James Billy Head.
She is survived by two brothers, Jim Robbins of Blacksburg, S.C., and Yates Robbins of Patterson Springs; two sisters, Frances Wall of Grover and Mazelle Shehan of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Teresa Harris and Johnny Head, both of Waco.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church with the Revs. John Bridges and Cecil Buff officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Community Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Friday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.
Ellawese Hillman
SHELBY - Mrs. Ellawese Parks Hillman, 40, of 1428 Clearbrook Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Doshia Beam Parks of Lawndale and the late Albert Parks Jr. She was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church in Bostic, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, the head of the Youth Ministry, a teacher of the Convert Class and a teacher of the Orietation Class. She was also a Hospice volunteer and a graduate of Burns High School. She was formerly employed by J.C. Dyeing Co.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Lewis Parks.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, the Rev. Albert Hillman; a son, Zachery Lumar Hillman of Shelby; three brothers, Bobby Parks and Leon Parks, both of Shelby, and the Rev. Keith Parks of Lawndale; three sisters, Edna Hillman and Sarah Dawkins, both of Shelby, and Lisa Parks of Cherryville; a special nephew, Dewanta Parks of Lawndale; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. James Smith and Albert Hillman officiating. Burial will be at Community Baptist Church in Lawndale.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at New Vernon.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Julia Margaret McMurray Bennett, 92, of Forest City died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Century Care of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Rev. J. Anthony Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Ethel Jackson
CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. Ethel Lee Brackett Jackson, 92, of 707 Beason Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Autumn Care of Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Young and Loni Tate Brackett. She retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Jackson; and her son, Clyde Lee Jackson.
She is survived by three grandchildren, David Jackson of Forest City and Joyce Pressley and Judy Yelton, both of Cliffside; one brother, Herman Brackett of Cliffside; one sister, Hazel Harrill of Forest City; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Revs. William Stroud and Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour after the funeral at the church and at other times of the home of Joyce Pressley, 624 Beason Road, Cliffside.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Morgan Lee "Skeet" Ivester, 74, of 316 Mauney Road, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Pearl Peeler Ivester. He retired as owner-operator of Tri County Farm Supply in Cherryville. He was a member of Kistler United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Willard Ivester.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Cordell Ivester; and one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Gene Jewell of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Kistler United Methodist Church with the Revs. Richard Johnson and Edna Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Kistler United Methodist Church.

Johnny Loveday
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Lee Roy "Johnny" Loveday, 74, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Union County, S.C., he was a son of the late Lloyd L. and Deemie Ball Loveday and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran and was the past president of the Optimist Club in Forest City.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Glenn B. Loveday of Rutherfordton; three sons, Mike Saunders of Welford, S.C., Michael Loveday of Shelby and Ivan Loveday of Shingle Hollow; one daughter, Teresa L. Buchanan of Forest City; a brother, Arb Loveday of Lockhart, S.C.; a sister, Lillian Cabiness of Lockhart, S.C.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews; .
A memorial service will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Riedel officiating.

GASTONIA - Mrs. Grace "Bear" Jewell Scruggs Brommer, 74, of 1154 West Airline Ave., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at her residence.

Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.

W. Dennis Sain
LAWNDALE - Mr. William Dennis Sain, 98, of 138 Acre Rock Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County May 18, 1902, he was a son of the late Jacob Lee and Alpha Lenora Gantt Sain. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, where he was active in United Methodist Men, the Adult Men's Sunday School Class and in various jobs in the church. He also did any needed carpentry work for the church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lily Upton Sain; four brothers, John D. Sain, Bert Sain, Warren Sain and Sam Sain; and seven sisters, Ezell Hicks, Valeria Sain Hoyle, Ora Lane, Elgie Mode, Constance Costner, Edith Houser and Helen Edmondson.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Helen Sain of Lawndale and Dr. Daniel D. and Lavada Sain of South Daytona Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Julia Sain of Lawndale and Betty Sain Elmore of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Sandra Sparks, Denise Hogan, Carla Bivens, Danita Stokes, David Sain, Annette Wright, Roxanne Swafford and Christy Bowman; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Kiser and Fred Hill officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
