Richard McCabe
LAWNDALE - Mr. Richard "Top Shelf" John McCabe, 64, of 120 Pullen Circle, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was born Dec. 21, 1936, a son of the late Felix and Catherine McGuire McCabe. He was 4th degree with Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Columbian Society and was a retired truck driver for Blue Ridge Transportation. He was an Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen McCabe, and a brother, James McCabe.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Russell McCabe of the home; two sons, Donald McCabe of Rockaway, N.Y., and James McCabe of New York; two daughters, Kalina Broubalow of Belvidere, N.J., and Helen McCabe of Easton, Pa.; one brother, Felix McCabe of New Milford, N.J.; and one sister, Elizabeth Horton of Colony, Texas.
A memorial service will be held later.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Margaret Katherine Flowe Killough, 86, of 607 Lot 4 Stroupe Road, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at her home.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Wildwood, Fla., in the chapel of Banks-Page-Theus Funeral Home. Burial will be in Adamsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sam Scott
SHELBY - Mr. Charles Sam Scott, 50, of 932 Hampton St., Apartment 31, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Moses and Sarah Sanford Scott. He was employed at Shelby Dyeing and Finishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Scott.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Scott of the home; one son, Tony Scott of Shelby; two daughters Tabitha Scott and Angel Scott, both of Shelby; four brothers; James Scott of Cincinnati, Robert Scott and Joe Lewis Scott, both of Shelby, and Jessie Scott of Philadelphia; nine sisters, Lardell Stroud, Flossie Bridges, Rosa Walkin, Kathleen Parks, Barbea Kee, Lucy Parks, Christina Odoms, Betty Allen, all of Shelby, and Mary Johnson of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, Antonio Feaster, Cornellius Scott, Ebony Wallace, Gerraille Mason and Lerraille Mason, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Houze officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.

GASTONIA - Mr. Willard Dye, 77, of 520 East Davidson St., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home.

Dan Adams
SHELBY - Mr. Daniel Elphus Adams, 54, of 561 Dick Spangler Road, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at 559 Dick Spangler Road.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John William and A. Josephine Allen Adams. He was a welder at Seal Wire Co. of Shelby and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of American Poultry Association and American Poultry Bantam Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William David Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" Ledbetter Adams of the home; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Dwayne Hastings of Kings Mountain and Johnny and Samantha Hastings of Stanley; one daughter, Tabitha Adams of Gaffney, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Gianna Hastings of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Wayne Adams of Shelby, Jackson Adams of Forest City and Larry Adams of Cherryville; two sisters, Sue Campbell of Cherryville and Kay Barnette of Shelby; two grandsons, Luke Hastings and Billy Fralick Jr.; and one granddaughter, Megan Hastings.
The funeral was Dec. 31 in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Revs. Thomas Irvin and Marie Ervin officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Paul Black
SHELBY - Mr. Paul Burlin Black, 81, of 220 Dellinger Road, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born March 18, 1919, a son of the late Eaphav and Mabel Devine Black. He was the former manager of Tillman Music in Lincolnton.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry A. Black of Southport and Howard Black of Lincolnton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda B. Ligon of Shelby and Howard Carr; four brothers, Fred Black of Cherryville, Charles Black of Waco and Jack Black and Robert Black, both of Crouse; three sisters, Gladys Hartman and Lola Whiteside, both of Lincolnton, and Lena Pennely of Cherryville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Overa Kelly.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton, with the Rev. Darrell Bost officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday.

Land Smarr
SHELBY - Mr. Land Preston "Mobey Dick" Smarr, 50, of 289 Light Oak Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Curtis Wray Sr. and Ruth Helen Smarr.
He was formerly employed by Metals America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Reginer B. Kilgore and Johnnie E. Wray; and two sisters, Johnnie Mae Wray and Gaynell Moses.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Kirkland of Gaffney, S.C.; two sons, Donver Oglesby and Chris Hartgrove, both of Shelby; eight brothers, Charles Smarr, Curtis Wray Jr., Greg Gingles, Tony Gingles, Jerry Gingles, Charles Gingles, Ronnie Gingles and L.C. Gingles, all of Shelby; five sisters, Mary Smarr, Shirley Shippey, Linda Smarr and Betty Harris, all of Shelby, and Sandra Dillard of Gaffney; eight grandchildren; six special cousins, J.T. Smarr, Diane Smarr, Jerry Smarr, Martha Williams and Mary Smarr, all of Shelby, and Louise Coleman, an evangelist, of Pittsburgh.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. Michael Isaac officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

Willie Vincent
SHELBY - Mr. Willie Joel "Pete" Vincent, 86, of Shelby, formerly of 5408 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at his home.
A native of Heath Springs, S.C., he was born Sept. 14, 1914. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force. He worked for the Charlotte City Police Department, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and was the head administrator for the Mecklenburg County Jail System. He played semi-pro baseball and coached Little League and Pony League baseball. He was a longtime member of Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Loree Croxton Vincent; two daughters, Shirley Poole of Shelby and Kate Peebles of Atlanta; one son, Robert Vincent of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Yvonne Kirkpatrick, Joel Vincent, Kimberly Davenport and Seth Poole; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Adam; and many nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.

Robert Moore
GROVER - Mr. Robert Eugene Moore, 58, of 143 Blackburn Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Oct. 7, 1942, the son of Mary Louise Pruett Moore of Lawndale and the late Wesley Moore. He worked at Jack Kennedy Utility and Construction as an equipment operator for 35 years. He was a corporal in the Army serving from 1959 to 1961 and including a tour of duty in Germany.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Crawford Moore of Lacey Springs, Ala.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Dean Moore of Rutherfordton, Larry Moore of Lacey Springs and Marvin Moore of Grover; a daughter, Brenda Gail Webb of Morganton; two stepdaughters, Michelle Ivie of Earl and Sandra Herzing of Shelby; three brothers, Charles Moore of Lawndale and Don Moore and J.C. Moore, both of Casar; and two sisters, Lettie Ruth Nalley and Cathy Bright, both of Casar.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Revs. Paul Sorrells and David Fambrough officiating.

BOSTIC - Miss Clara Mae Carson, 101, formerly of East Church Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at White Oak Manor, Rutherfordton.

Tennie Beam
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Tennie Miller Beam, 82, of 3380 N.C. 274, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville.
A native of Spaudling County, Ga., she was born Dec. 20, 1918, the daughter of the late John Edward and Tennie McFarland Miller. She was a retired public school teacher, having taught in Gaston, Lincoln and Cleveland counties. She was a member of Cedar Grove Lutheran Church, Vale, and a graduate of the University of Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Heman Beam.
She is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Jacqueline and Martin Bess of Cherryville; a special child, Susie Smith Baxter of Cherryville; two grandchildren and a spouse, Jennifer and Eric Radebaugh of Stanley and Marc Bess of Cherryville; and one great-grandchild, Shelton Radebaugh of Stanley.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dale Pederson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home.

A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Margie H. Gordon and Thomas J. Jackson, both of Shelby. He attended Crest High School and was formerly employed by Universal Co. in Grover.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Charles D. Thurman of Shelby and Adrian Jackson of Fort Mill, S.C.; seven sisters and two brothers-in-law, Katrina and Andre Hill and Shantae Huskey, all of Shelby, Colisa Bess, Sabrina Bess and Felisa Bess, all of Kings Mountain, Misha and Keith Rhodes, both of Gastonia, and Charlotte Poole of Charlotte; his grandparents, A.D. Huskey and Lizzie Mae Jackson, both of Shelby; a special cousin, Shandie Tuft; a special friend, Shericka Ager; and a godchild, Dominique Bostic, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith Harvest Church with Bishop Randy Borders officiating.
Burial will be at Webb Memorial Lawns.
